Late-night comedians melt down over Trump win, Nigerian Muslims killed 21 Christians in Benue State, 83-year-old reunited with long-lost college ring

It's Friday, November 8th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus and Jonathan Clark Nigerian Muslims killed 21 Christians in Benue State On November 1st and 2nd, Fulani Muslim herdsmen killed six Christians in Benue State, Nigeria after slaughtering 15 Christians in a nearby village two days prior, reports Morning Star News. Terwase Avande, a local resident, said they “began shooting at Christian residents.” And Paul Adetsav, a community leader, said, “The Fulani herdsmen keep attacking us almost on a daily basis, killing Christians at will and igniting fire on our houses and places of worship. “Crops we planted on our farms too have been destroyed by the armed herdsmen. Hunger has become an epidemic, killing us and our children since we have nothing to eat.” More than 400,000 members of the community have been displaced as a result of incessant attacks. According to Open Doors, Nigeria is the sixth most dangerous country worldwide in which to live as a Christian. Luke gave wise counsel in Acts 14:22. “…remain true to the faith.” Argentina's first Day of Evangelical Protestant Churches Argentina celebrated its first Day of Evangelical Protestant Churches on October 31 of this year. The country passed a law back in April to commemorate the day in memory of when Martin Luther published the 95 theses, sparking the Protestant Reformation. Fifteen percent of Argentina's population is Evangelical, numbering six million. Pastor Christian Hooft, the president of the Christian Alliance of Evangelical Churches of the Argentine Republic, said, “We celebrate the 5 solas of the monk Martin Luther: ‘Christ Alone, Scripture Alone, Grace Alone, Faith Alone, and Glory be to God Alone,' which were an emblem that remained and strongly influenced culture, knowledge, and science.” Joe Scarborough hypocritically chastises the Democratic Party Joe Scarborough, host of MSNBC's Morning Joe, spent much of the first hour of November 6th pontificating about where the Democrats went wrong. His focus was not their tactical moves, but their broader failure to understand and connect with the American people regarding their concerns, reports Newsbusters. SCARBOROUGH: “So, it's time for the Democrats to look in the mirror and figure out exactly what went wrong.” However, Scarborough —a Democrat flunky himself — has personified the very problems of which he complains. SCARBOROUGH: “There was some reluctance to talk about the things that were concerning Americans that really mattered this year — illegal immigration, the mass border crossings. That was something that concerned Hispanic voters. It's something that concerned Black voters, something that concerned all voters. “We've been talking about the transgender ad. Thirty thousand times it ran over $30 million. This is going to be a problem in the three states that you need. And yet, they just didn't respond to it because they were afraid to respond to it because it might offend some small subset of their base. “They have lost working-class America. The question is, How long until they understand that this isn't just about tax cuts? This isn't just about economics. This is about cultural markers that matter greatly in these people's lives.” Joe Scarborough sounds like the late Rush Limbaugh, doesn't he? But Mark Finkelstein of Newsbusters wrote, “There has been no show more slavishly devoted to parroting Democratic themes than Morning Joe. There's a reason why Joe Biden made Morning Joe his favorite show, calling on his staff to watch it, and becoming phone buddies with Scarborough. “And when others were calling out Biden's undeniable decline, it was Morning Joe which claimed that Ol' Joe was ‘sharp as a tack.'"  White House Press Secretary blames bad economy on COVID pandemic Democrats are trying to figure out how President-elect Donald Trump won in a landslide. On November 7th, Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House Press Secretary, didn't blame the bad economy on the inflationary policies of Biden-Harris who printed up money to give away in stimulus checks. Instead, she blamed the bad economy on the COVID pandemic. JEAN-PIERRE: “One of the things that occurred was the pandemic. It caused disruption. It caused the supply chain to be disrupted, and caused the economy to be turned upside down. We are, in fact, leading the world on the economy. “That doesn't stop the fact that there has been a political toll for incumbents. That is something that I'm telling you as a data point to share because we know that you guys would have questions.” Late-night comedians meltdown over Trump win The late night comedians, who are by and large more committed to the Democratic Party than making America laugh, sounded as though they were attending the funeral of America. In fact, ABC's Jimmy Kimmel actually broke down in tears over Trump's victory. Listen. KIMMEL: “Let's be honest, it was a terrible night last night. It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of hard-working immigrants who make this country go, for health care, for our climate. It was a terrible night for poor people, for our allies in Ukraine, for NATO. I mean, I guess it was a bad night for everyone who voted for him, too. You just don't realize it yet.” And CBS's Steven Colbert tried to comfort his liberal audience. COLBERT: “How are you doing? If you watch the show regularly, I'm guessing you're not doing great. Yeah. Me neither. “It happened again. And in this democracy, the majority has spoken. They said they don't care that much about democracy. The first time Donald Trump was elected, he started as a joke and ended as a tragedy. This time, he starts as a tragedy. Who knows what he'll end as.” Republicans flip another U.S. Senate seat Republican David McCormick has won Pennsylvania's pivotal U.S. Senate seat, as the former CEO of the world's largest hedge fund beat three-term Democratic Senator Bob Casey, reports the Associated Press. Republicans have now flipped four seats and have 53 Senate seats compared to 45 for Democrats. Nevada and Arizona are still counting ballots. U.S. House still up for grabs The U.S. House is still up for grabs, reports Fox News. Republicans have 210 seats. Democrats have 198. 218 seats are needed for the majority. 83-year-old reunited with long-lost college ring And finally, 47 years ago, Frederick Morgan Perigo, a Canadian professor, lost his gold and ruby class ring while splashing around in Barbados with his son. When he went to protect his son from a big wave, the boy accidentally pulled off his father's MacMaster University class ring as he grabbed his hand. Providentially, Alex Davis, a fellow MacMaster University graduate and a professional freediver, happened to vacation in the same spot in the Barbados. He found Perigo's ring with the help of an underwater metal detector, reports The Daily News. After discovering the year 1965 and the initials “FMP” inscribed on the ring, it was a cinch to reunite it with its rightful owner through the alumni association. Reached by email, Perigo wrote, “This is unbelievable news!” Luke 12:7 reveals that God cares about even the smallest detail since He knows the number of hairs on our head. It's Thursday, April 25th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark How Indian Hindus are endangering Christians in Nepal International Christian Concern reports that Christians are facing more persecution in the Hindu-majority nation of Nepal. The increased persecution appears to be bleeding over the border from India where Christians face high levels of persecution.  Hindu nationalists in India are now sending funds into Nepal, leading to more violence against Christians.  This has only made the work of Christian evangelism more dangerous across the country.  Argentina celebrates Evangelicals Last week, Argentina's Senate approved a law to make October 31 a National Day of Evangelical and Protestant Churches. The South American country is about 15% Evangelical and has over 25,000 Protestant churches. Christian Hooft is the President of the Christian Alliance of Evangelical Churches of the Republic of Argentina. He said, “To declare October 31 as the 'National Day of Evangelical and Protestant Churches' is to recognize the importance of this religious tradition in Argentinian history and society.” On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther posted his Ninety-five Theses on the door of the Catholic church in Wittenberg, Germany, objecting to the 95 ways the Catholic church had strayed from Biblical teaching. That was a milestone moment that marked the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. 67% of Christians live in South America, Africa and Asia The Global Christian Forum held its fourth gathering in Ghana, West Africa last week with hundreds of participants from 60 countries. The conference noted the geographical shift in the center of Christianity. In 1900, 82% of Christians lived in the Global North across countries in North America and Europe. Now, 67% of Christians live in the Global South across countries in South America, Africa, and Asia. Plus, 44% of Protestants now hail from Africa. Psalm 22:27-28 says, “All the ends of the Earth shall remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations shall worship before You. For kingship belongs to the LORD, and He rules over the nations.” Biden signed $95 billion foreign aid bill In the United States, the Senate passed a $95 billion foreign aid bill yesterday. President Joe Biden signed it within hours of passing. The package gives $60 billion to Ukraine, $26 billion to Israel, and $8 billion to U.S. partners in the Indo-Pacific like Taiwan. The legislation also moved to ban TikTok, a social media app owned by a Chinese parent company. The United States is giving the company a year to sell the app or it will be banned in America. Supreme Court hears another abortion case Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments in an another abortion case. The Biden administration is challenging Idaho's law banning nearly all abortions. The administration is trying to argue that the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act allows abortions in medical emergencies. However, justices appeared skeptical that state abortion bans violate the federal law. A decision is expected in June. More Americans cannot retire A new survey from the American Association of Retired Persons found about a quarter of U.S. adults do not think they will be able to retire. Many older Americans are staying in the work force due to a lack of retirement savings.  AARP noted, “Everyday expenses continue to be the top barrier to saving more for retirement, and some older Americans say that they never expect to retire.” Proverbs 23:5 says of toiling for wealth, “When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward Heaven.” Tennessee Governor bans discriminatory de-banking Tennessee Republican Governor Bill Lee signed a bill recently to ban discriminatory de-banking. The law prohibits major banks and insurance companies from closing someone's account simply for their political or religious views. Tennessee State Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson said, “We will not allow big corporate banks to … discriminate against consumers for their religious or political views. This troubling trend will not be tolerated in Tennessee.” House Majority Leader gives glory to God And finally, the U.S. House Majority Leader gave glory to God in a recent interview. Steve Scalise, the Republican Congressional leader from Louisiana, returned to the House in February after battling blood cancer. During a Tuesday interview on EWTN News Nightly, he said the cancer is in remission. SCALISE: “For so many people that are watching that said prayers and offered just true, genuine support, I can't thank everybody enough. Because you feel that, you know, when you're going through things and, thank God, you know, God performed a lot of miracles and answered a lot of prayers.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Thursday, April 25th in the year of our Lord 2024. Subscribe by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. A lot of modern Evangelical Churches provide some form of Kids Ministry service during their Sunday gatherings. Many Christians take it for granted that this is normal. However, how many have stopped to ask the question, "Is this actually Biblical?" In this episode, we consider the Biblical texts that are usually used to support Kids Ministry to see if this practice is actually supported by the Bible. The answer may surprise many. But if we want to build healthy, Biblical churches, then we should be concerned about what God's Word says and doesn't say about this important topic.

It's Wednesday, July 19th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark British Conservative Party suspends politician for opposing homosexuality Britain's Conservative Party  suspended a Christian political leader for opposing sexually perverted lifestyles. King Lawal is a member of the North Northamptonshire Unity Council. During so-called “Pride Month” in June, he tweeted this: “Pride is not a virtue, but a Sin. Those who have Pride should Repent of their sins and return to Jesus Christ. He can save you.” Within days, seven organizations cancelled Lawal. He may also face a police investigation. The Christian Legal Centre is now representing him. Lawal's tweet included a reference to Isaiah 3:9 which says, “They declare their sin as Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to their soul! For they have brought evil upon themselves.” Brazil's Evangelical churches skyrocketed by 500% A new study by the University of Sao Paulo found the number of Evangelical churches in Brazil has grown by over 500%. The South American country had just over 7,000 Evangelical churches in 1990. The number grew to 100,000 in 2019. That's 17 new churches every day. The latest demographic data shows Brazil's Evangelical population doubled from 9% in 1990 to 22% in 2010. Researchers expect Evangelicals to become a majority in the now Catholic-majority nation. New over-the-counter contraceptive pill Last Thursday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Opill, the first over-the-counter contraceptive pill. Perrigo, a company based in Ireland, plans to ship the pills out starting next year with no age restrictions.  The approval comes during a time of legal battles over abortion. States are introducing more limits on abortion after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade on June 24, 2022.  Meanwhile, the FDA's approval of the abortion pill mifepristone is facing legal challenges.  Tanking public school scores Public school test scores have been tanking recently according to new data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress. Average scores for 13-year-olds declined four points in reading and 9 points in mathematics compared with the 2019-2020 school year. The research also found children are less likely to spend their free time reading now. This year, 14% of students report reading for fun almost every day, down from 17% in 2020 and 27% in 2012. Higher-performing students were more likely to read for fun regularly. Worldview correction: Canadian Reformed Church rejects female pastors Yesterday, The Worldview reported and linked to a Christian Post article that indicated that the Canadian Reformed Church ordained women to church office. After receiving an email from a Worldview listener from within that denomination, we doublechecked the Canadian Reformed Church website and discovered that The Christian Post story was incorrect. In Article 3 of their Church Order, the Canadian Reformed Church denomination explains, “Only male members who have made profession of faith and may be considered to meet the conditions as set forth in Holy Scripture (e.g., in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1) shall be eligible for office.” We apologize for the error.  Court: Kentucky can now protect kids from transgender drugs and surgeries A U.S. District Court lifted an injunction last Friday on a Kentucky law that protects children from transgender drugs and surgeries. The law is now fully enforceable in the state. Republican Attorney General Daniel Cameron said, “Today's ruling is a win for parents and children. … Moving forward, my office will continue to defend Senate Bill 150 and stand up for the right of children to be children, free from the influences of leftist activists and radical gender ideology.” Proverbs 20:26 says, “A wise king sifts out the wicked, and brings the threshing wheel over them.” South African Worldview listener finds newscast hopeful Peter Goede in Pretoria, South Africa wrote, "Good day Adam. I listen to your broadcasts often, mostly when driving long hours in my bakkie or ‘pickup' as you Americans call it, as I'm visiting farmers for my work. I enjoy the news from a Christian perspective with added Scripture explaining the situation. Here in South Africa, the radio news becomes extremely depressing. “But with The Worldview in 5 Minutes, there is hope, reminding us always that God is in control. Therefore, I now tend to listen only to your newscast and Kevin Swanson's Generations Radio. Thank you for the work you are doing. May God bless you, and give Him the glory!" Send your email of feedback to Adam@TheWorldview.com. Father & son from Indiana share their thoughts about The Worldview Matthew Dreyer in Greencastle, Indiana explained how his family started listening to the newscast. MATTHEW: “Well, we started really primarily listening during the pandemic. It was kind of a way to keep ourselves sane. And just to listen as a family. We'd go out for hikes. We lived in New Mexico at the time. We were part of an audio Bible ministry out there, and I was home a lot. It meant a lot to us to be able to know that The Worldview was safe. And when there are more mature stories, there's a transcript we can read ahead on for the kids. “We would listen to it while we hiked. We would listen to it as a family. We talk about the persecuted church and what's going on there. We talk about what God's doing all over the world. And we appreciate the biblical perspective that you put on everything. So, we want to support you.” And his 15-year-old son, Elijah, shared his thoughts. ELIJAH: “I enjoy learning about the current news from a Christian perspective. It's really the only way I get my news.” 13 Worldview listeners gave $8,565 Thirteen Worldview listeners donated toward our $80,000 goal by Monday, July 31st to keep this unique Christian newscast on the air for another year. Seth Holehouse, host of Man in America, then followed up with his theory that the World Economic Forum is not making The Great Reset happen, but instead are jockeying for position for the reset that's naturally going to occur. The key to the WEF taking over the world is China, but if the CCP implodes, so does Klaus Schwab's ability to have the infrastructure to maintain control. It's Thursday, January 12th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Persecution hot spots: Myanmar, Iran, China, India, Afghan, and Turkey International Christian Concern recently shared where they expect persecution hotspots to be this year. Christians in China face more crackdowns on house churches and religious leaders. Myanmar's political coup has increased pressure on Christians including attacks and bombings on churches. Iran has used the international distractions of the Ukraine war to continue their arrests and torture of Christians.  Meanwhile, Christians in India face more and more states adopting anti-conversion laws that target them. The Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan has pushed Christianity completely underground. And Turkey's government is spreading persecution in neighboring countries as they monopolize terrorist groups and harass Christians. Psalm 14:4 asks, “Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers who eat up My people as they eat bread and do not call upon the LORD?” French fight over doctor-assisted suicide Last month, France's highest administrative court rejected challenges to the country's law against assisted suicide. Despite the ruling though, France is still considering legalizing such murder. Last September, the government opened a six-month timeframe for civil conversation on the matter. Evangelical groups like the French National Council of Evangelical Churches are speaking out. One leader said, “Every human being is created and loved by God, and his or her dignity does not diminish with age, social status, or the decline of physical and cognitive abilities.” World economy will only grow by 1.7% The World Bank's latest forecast expects the global economy to grow just 1.7% this year, down from its estimate of 3% last year. The organization said the US, the Eurozone, and China are “all undergoing a period of pronounced weakness” and that the global economy is “perilously close to falling into recession.” In the U.S., big banks are expected to report a 17% drop in net profits from the fourth quarter of 2022 compared with a year before. And the U.S. Small Business Optimism Index fell to 89% last month, marking the twelfth consecutive month the index was below the half-century average of 98%. FAA computer failure biggest grounding since 9/11 Thousands of flights across the U.S. were canceled or delayed Wednesday after a system that offers safety information to pilots failed, prompting a government investigation into the breakdown which grounded some planes for hours, reports the Associated Press. The Federal Aviation Administration said preliminary indications “traced the outage to a damaged database file.” The agency said it would take steps to avoid another similar disruption. The breakdown showed how much American air travel depends on the computer system that generates alerts called Notice to Air Missions. Before a plane takes off, pilots and airline dispatchers must review the notices, which include details about bad weather, runway closures or other temporary factors that could affect the flight. AZ Christian school in trouble for firing LHBT-supporting teacher Arizona's largest Christian school is facing a lawsuit for their Biblical hiring practices. Valley Christian School's former teacher Adam McDorman filed a complaint in federal court last month. The school dismissed McDorman in 2021 after he defended people living sexually perverted lifestyles. The issue came up after a student posted online that she was “pansexual.” The school requires students and faculty to embrace its values which include a statement on Biblical marriage and sexuality.  Pentagon rescinds COVID-shot requirement The Pentagon officially rescinded its COVID-shot requirement for service members on Tuesday. Going forward, people currently serving in the military will not be dismissed for refusing to get the shot. However, various military branches have already discharged at least 8,400 troops for refusing to get the shot. It is unclear if the military will allow those discharged back into active service. 90% of California under flood watch Ninety percent of California was under a flood watch on Monday.  Heavy rainstorms are causing deadly mudslides, flooded towns, and power outages. At least 17 people have died in the storms since the start of the year. On Sunday, the White House approved California's request to declare a federal emergency. Pastor Alan Cross of Petaluma Valley Baptist Church told CBN News that churches are working to support their communities in this time of need.  CROSS: “I think the main thing is just praying for people, to be aware of their neighbors, and to have compassion. That really is the role of the church, is to see people in need, connecting with others, and being the refuge where we can join hands together as a community.” 200 homicides in Washington D.C. And finally, Washington, D.C. is facing record high gun violence. For the second year in a row, the nation's capital has recorded over 200 homicides. Activists with Anacostia Coordinating Council are pushing a new campaign to stem the tide of violence. And no, it's not all about gun control. Instead, the group wants to put up posters with the Bible's Sixth Commandment -- “You shall not murder” -- throughout the city. The group's executive director, Philip Pannell, explained the campaign builds on the past.  He said, “Around 30 years ago, at the height of the crack epidemic, when we were also experiencing violence and homicides, then at-large Council member William Lightfoot printed-up some ‘Thou shalt not kill' posters and put them throughout the city.” The office of D.C. Democrat Mayor Muriel Bowser will even provide 1,000 of the posters. Genesis 9:6 says, “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in His own image.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Thursday, January 12th in the year of our Lord 2023. Subscribe by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. It's Thursday, December 29th, A.D. 2022. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Nigerian Muslim scourge continues Islamic militants carried out attacks on Christians in multiple states in Nigeria recently. On December 17, Muslim Fulani herdsmen killed three Christians who were working on a farm. The attackers had been destroying villagers' crops as well. A local official said, “These are some of the terrible things farmers in Benue state have been facing over the years.” On December 19, members of the Islamic State West Africa Province destroyed homes, livestock, and crops in a Christian village in Borno state. The attack came after militants killed a pregnant Christian woman in the same area. Nigeria leads the world in deadly violence against Christians according to Open Doors. Sweden halted puberty blockers for minors Sweden continues to cut back on providing so-called “transgender treatments” to children, reports CBN News. The country's National Board of Health and Welfare previously put an end to prescribing puberty blockers for minors. On December 16, the national board announced their latest guidelines on the subject. The health agency urged caution when treating people pretending to be the opposite sex, acknowledging “a lack of knowledge about the results of the care.” Another factor driving their recommendation for caution was the “documented occurrence of detransition.” Bulgaria: Evangelical churches “dangerous,” cause “mental disorders” The European Court of Human Rights condemned the Bulgarian government this month for interfering with Christians' religious freedom. In 2008, the eastern European country sent schools a public notice calling Evangelical Protestant churches “dangerous religious sects” that could cause “mental disorders” in their members. Municipal authorities were trying to combat “religious missionaries around the Easter celebration.” Alliance Defending Freedom represented two Bulgarian pastors in a case against the government.  After the court victory, Pastor Zhivko Tonchev said, “We are thrilled that the European Court of Human Rights has recognized our fundamental right to religious freedom just in time for Christmas.” Twitter files reveal suppression of COVID information On Monday, the latest batch of Twitter files came out. They expose how the U.S. government pressured the social media company to suppress information about COVID-19. Elon Musk is releasing the files as the new owner, showing how the company operated before he took control. The files show the Trump administration wanted Twitter to suppress information about panic buying during the pandemic while the Biden administration wanted to suppress anti-COVID-shot information. Twitter censored true, but inconvenient COVID-19 messages and discredited doctors and other experts who disagreed with U.S. government policy. During a recent podcast interview, Musk said peoples' suspicions about Twitter's internal operations turned out to be true. MUSK: “I mean to be totally frank almost every conspiracy theory that people had about Twitter turned out to be true. (laughs) Is there a conspiracy theory about Twitter that didn't turn out to be true? So far, they've all turned out to be true.” Luke 12:2 says, “Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.” States implemented 50 anti-abortion laws A new report from the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute found U.S. states implemented 50 anti-abortion laws this year. The report said abortions are unavailable in 14 states now after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.  The number of anti-abortion laws is down this year from a high of 108 last year. The report noted, “However, many of the laws passed this year are near-total abortion bans; combined with the implementation of pre-Roe laws and trigger bans that had been enacted in previous years, these laws have restricted abortion access for millions of people.” Indiana Grinch didn't have the last word And finally, police officers in South Bend, Indiana saved Christmas for a family who had been robbed on Christmas Eve. A “real-life Grinch” broke into the family's home and stole their food and all their Christmas presents. Immediately, officers contacted a local toy drive and were back with boxes of presents and food for the family. The mother and her three children were overjoyed with the surprise. Officer Brian Meador told Fox News they were happy to do something positive. MEADOR: “It's why we do what we do. So many times you see just the negative, but this was an opportunity for us to do something positive. To see those children's reaction, that that makes everything worthwhile.” Acts 20:35 says, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Close And that's The World View in 5 Minutes on this Thursday, December 29th in the year of our Lord 2022. Subscribe by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. On the PRmoment Podcast this week with me Ben Smith we're talking to PR academic Tom Watson about the History of PR - when, where and how did the business of public relations begin.Tom is a professor emeritus at Bournemouth University, he taught on Bournemouth's PR degree for a number of years. Previously he spent much of his career running his own PR firm and he was the founder of the annual History of PR Conference - the 2022 version of which takes place in Bournemouth on July 6th and 7th.Before we start just a nudge to remind you all about the final deadline for The Creative Moment Awards on Friday 1st July 2022.And don't forget you can become a PRmoment Podcast Patreon - just follow the link on the page where you listen to this podcast. From just £5 a month we have three different Patron Tiers - The Daney Parker Tier, The Chadlington Tier and Edward Bernays Tier. Here's a summary of what Tom and I discussed:1.30 mins How PR goes as far back as Julius Caeser and The Babylons! From the beginning of time Kings and Queens have tried to promote themselves!3.30 mins Historically is the rise of public relations linked to the rise of journalism?6 mins When did professional PR as we recognise it today start to appear?8 mins How there were 3 different, separate beginnings to professional public relations - in the US, in Germany and in the UK in the 19th Century.“Evangelical Churches, railways and circuses all played an important part in the development of publicity methods in North America.”11 mins How public relations has tended to start with government promotion, then move onto corporate PR and then consumer brand PR would follow.12 mins Tom talks about earlier corporate PR - “the journalist in residence model”12.30 mins Why agencies have tended to be the final stage of PR's evolution. The first PR agency in the UK was called “Editorial Services” which was set up by Sir Basil Clarke in 1924. The Guardian refers to Clarke as “the man who invented PR” in this archived article.“The first public relations officer was appointed by Southern Railways in 1925”15 mins When did public relations become a broader discipline beyond just publicity?“It was (Arthur) Page who was the first to look at public relations in a far bigger context, affecting the whole organisation and not just a communication/publicity activity.”17 minsTom talks us through his most important personalities in the evolution of PR“Bernays is massively overrated in importance”“Ivy Lee made some mistakes but he was important as he was seen as the epitomisation of this new promotional profession.”20 mins Why does Germany remain the centre of PR research excellence?22 mins Tom summarises the timeline of PR academia24 mins Tom talks about the internationalisation of PR and the rise and dominance of the large US PR firms - as American companies went around the world, US PR firms followed them25.30 mins The rise of women in PR: how we're barely starting to research why the gender change in public relations took place from the 1980s

Having finished the series, Mike has clear eyes about the failures of the white evangelical church, and while race may not have been a major factor in the original podcast, he sees a direct line from white evangelicalism's struggle against racial justice to the kinds of attitudes that lead to the titular disaster of his podcast. "Buchs, Gallagher, and Pure Life Ministries believe that Evangelical churches are filled with “porn addicts.” What should we make of this assertion? Is “porn addiction” even a thing? Sure, people can become addicted to many things, but has Internet porn turned half of all teen and adult Evangelical church members into addicts? Imagine for a moment an Evangelical megachurch with 20,000 members. Does Buch expect anyone to believe that this church has thousands and thousands of porn addicts; men (and women) so obsessed with porn that they spend every waking moment on the Internet, fulfilling their lustful desires? This, on its face, is absurd. Do Evangelicals look at porn? Sure, many do, including pastors. Do Evangelicals masturbate after watching YouPorn and other sites? Sure, many do. However, is this a sign of “addiction”? Of course not. Why, then, do Evangelicals confess to porn addiction?" --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/support

People seem to have this perpetual need to find a way to tell others who they are through the use of personality labels. Almost like there needs to be this universally understood and accepted language that when when spoken, it tells others all they need to know - and all we need to know - about who we are and what makes us tick. For decades it has been astrological signs. "What's your sign?"Then it became the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. "What's your type?"And now, growing in popularity and influence, it's the Enneagram. "What's your number?"These questions, but especially that last one, have become such common questions that they don't even need any context or explaining. But what most Christians don't know is that the Enneagram has some dark and dangerous roots and some questionable proponents, which should give believers more than a moments pause when considering whether the Enneagram is worth taking. In this episode, Ciara and Jessi examine the rise of the Enneagram, where it came from, how it found its way into Evangelical Churches, and what we should do about it. I've decided to refer to them as The Right Supremacy. In Washington State House Bill 1411 has been put forth to loosen restrictions on convicted felons being long term care providers. Mostly written to address past felonies like marijuana possession, I discuss how prisons should be about rehabilitation and less about punishment. This book and the book of Ruth are the only OT books named after women. Like Song of Solomon, Obadiah, and Nahum, the NT does not quote or allude to Esther. “Hadassah” (2:7), meaning “myrtle,” was the Hebrew name of Esther, which came either from the Persian word “star” or possibly from the name of the Babylonian love goddess, Ishtar. As the orphaned daughter of her father Abihail, Esther grew up in Persia with her older cousin, Mordecai, who raised her as if she were his own daughter (2:7, 15). Esther occurred during the Persian period of world history, ca. 539 B.C. (Dan. 5:30, 31) to ca. 331 B.C. (Dan. 8:1–27). Ahasuerus ruled from ca. 486 to 465 B.C.; Esther covers the 483–473 B.C. portion of his reign. The name Ahasuerus represents the Heb. transliteration of the Persian name “Khshayarsha,” while “Xerxes” represents his Greek name. The events of Esther occurred during the wider time span between the first return of the Jews after the 70 year captivity in Babylon (Dan. 9:1–19) under Zerubbabel ca. 538 B.C. (Ezra 1–6) and the second return led by Ezra ca. 458 B.C. (Ezra 7–10). Nehemiah’s journey (the third return) from Susa to Jerusalem (Neh. 1–2) occurred later (ca. 445 B.C.). Esther and Exodus both chronicle how vigorously foreign powers tried to eliminate the Jewish race and how God sovereignly preserved His people in accordance with His covenant promise to Abraham ca. 2100–2075 B.C. (Gen. 12:1–3; 17:1–8). As a result of God’s prevailing, Esther 9, 10 records the beginning of Purim—a new annual festival in the 12th month (Feb.- Mar.) to celebrate the nation’s survival. Purim became one of two festivals given outside of the Mosaic legislation to still be celebrated in Israel (Hanukkah, or the Festival of Lights, is the other, cf. John 10:22). About your Teacher - Geoff Thomas Rev. Geoffrey Thomas has been the minister of Alfred Place Baptist Church in Aberystwyth, Wales, since 1965. Born in 1938 in Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, he became a Christian as a teenager in his home church, the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Hengoed, in 1954. After grammar school, he read Biblical Studies, Greek and Philosophy at Cardiff University (BA, 1959). He found fellowship in the Inter-varsity Fellowship group, and was influenced by the ministry of Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones, and reading books such as J. I. Packer’s Fundamentalism and the Word of God, Whitefield’s Journals, Lloyd-Jones’ Studies in the Sermon on the Mount, and J. C. Ryle’s Holiness. At this time he also began to take The Banner of Truth magazine, which he has since served as Associate Editor. He preached for the first time in 1959 and ‘thenceforward Sunday after Sunday’. In 1961 he travelled to the United States to study for three years at Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, under men such as Edward J. Young, Ned Stonehouse, John Murray, Cornelius Van Til, Meredith Kline, Norman Shepherd, Jay Adams and Edmund Clowney. Returning to Wales after graduation (M.Div, 1964), he married Iola, ‘the girl back home’. Assured during the last months of his course at seminary of the call to preach, he began his first and only pastorate at Alfred Place the following year. Geoff has systematically preached the Bible to his congregation ever since, and has published the compete text of almost a thousand sermons on the church’s website. He has served as the chairman of the Grace Churches of England and Wales, and of the Association of Evangelical Churches of Wales, and is currently Editor of the Trust’s website articles. He is the author of scores of articles and several books, including The Holy Spirit, Daniel: Servant of God Under Four Kings, Philip and the Revival in Samaria and Ernest Reisinger: A Biography, as well as the booklet Reading the Bible, some of which have been published by the Trust. He is a frequent speaker at conferences throughout the world, and is a Visiting Professor of Historical Theology at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 2011 Westminster Seminary awarded him a Doctor of Divinity degree. Geoff’s wife Iola passed away in October 2016, passing, as Geoff wrote, ‘from the state of grace to the state of glory’. Why Islamist Terrorists Attacked Christians in the Philippines

SIS has claimed responsibility for an attack that killed 20 churchgoers and soldiers at a Catholic church in the Philippines. Two bombs exploded at a church in the city of Jolo on Sunday, “the first blasting through rows of pews and the second shooting from the entrance to kill scrambling parishioners as well as the guards positioned outside to protect the church week after week,” according to CT’s report. The attack came several days after a key vote in the region’s surrounding islands on a referendum that offered the area greater autonomy. While Muslims in Jolo largely opposed the referendum—part of an effort to end ongoing clashes between Philippine forces and separatists, —it passed anyway. Given that the vote seemingly went in their favor, why did extremists react violently? “What they want to do is pit Muslims and Christians against each other,” said Efraim Tendero, the current general secretary of the World Evangelical Alliance and former national director of the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches. When he previously visited Jolo, Tendero said he had been welcomed at the airport by one of the region’s Muslim leaders. “You can see that the moderate Muslim community is peace-loving and would like to support peace,” he said. These attacks, then, likely come from a group that doesn’t “really want the peace agreement to flourish so they are trying to sow more terror,” said Tendero, pointing out that many of the casualties were soldiers guarding the area. Tendero joined digital media producer Morgan Lee and editor in chief Mark Galli to discuss the relationship between Christians and Muslims in Asia’s most Christian country and the health of the Filipino church in the 21st century.

John Stevens is the national director of the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC), a family of 600 local churches who are "united by the gospel and by a common purpose". In this in-depth interview with Premier Christianity's editor Sam Hailes, John explains how he first came to Christ and how early on in his Christian life, thought he might be ordained in the Anglican church. As time went on, John came to the realisation he "wasn't an Anglican". As well as explaining the theological and doctrinal reasons for this, he also clears away some common misconceptions regarding what FIEC believes and stands for. According to John, the spiritual situation in the UK is "desperate" with "no more than 3% of the British population" being "Born-again Christians". When challenged that other statistics show 11% of the country attends church, John argues that attending church doesn't make you a Christian, and that in his view, some churches are not remaining faithful to biblical instructions on topics such as same sex relationships. Looking ahead, he says evangelical Christians need to have a greater impact outside of London and the south east, and plant more churches in deprived and multi-ethnic contexts.  Follow John on Twitter @_JohnStevens. "Donald Trump thinks the United States will not see another black president for some time because Barack Obama has "set a very poor standard," the billionaire businessman, entertainer and Republican presidential candidate told ABC News on Sunday. Trump -- who has questioned whether Obama was born in the United States and was once sued by the Justice Department because the management of his apartment complexes allegedly discriminated against black tenants -- also thinks he'll win the black vote.  Trump responded to a question on the show about a tweet he sent last year saying America would not see another black president for generations because of how poorly he thought Obama had done.  "He has done nothing for African Americans. You look at what's gone on with their income levels. You look at what's gone on with their youth. I thought that he would be a great cheerleader for this country. I thought he'd do a fabulous job for the African American citizens of this country. He has done nothing," Trump said.  "They have problems now in terms of unemployment numbers, look at their unemployment numbers. And you have -- here you have a black president who's done very poorly for the African Americans of this country," Trump said. "I think that I will win the African American vote and I think I will win the Hispanic vote."  Trump also distanced himself from his past praise of some of his current opponents, basically acknowledging he only said nice things about them in the past because he needed good relationships with politicians for business purposes.  Trump also would not rule out a third-party run for office, saying only that he wouldn't run as an independent if he was treated fairly by the Republican party." Pastor Aubrey Shines, a Chicago native, began ministering in the Cook County Correctional System in Chicago, IL as an evangelical minister licensed by the late Bishop D. Husband (Churches of God in Christ). In 1987 God moved greatly upon Pastor Shines’ heart and he became founder of Glory To Glory Ministries. The ministry has since transcended denominational, cultural, and ethnic boundaries. Glory To Glory Ministries is now located in the inner city of Tampa, Florida. Over the past twelve years, this congregation has grown tremendously because of the anointing that God has placed on Pastor Shine’s life. In September of 2014, Glory to Glory Ministries International will extend its boundaries by opening the doors of ministry in their second location, Glory to Glory Ministries of Orlando, Florida. Pastor Shines most recent accomplishment is being one of the seven founders of the International Communion of Evangelical Churches organization under the dynamic leadership of Presiding Bishop Harry R. We've gotten several requests over time to do a program on the Orthodox view of "speaking in tongues" and the charismatic movement within the Evangelical Churches. After avoiding the topic for a couple years we decided to do a series on the Orthodox Church's understanding of the person and work of the Holy Spirit. With all the claims and experiences regarding the Holy Spirit today is there a way to discern what is real and what is perhaps a spiritual deception? We begin the series at the beginning: the role of the Holy Spirit in creation.
