Welcome to Part 1 of this special Coffee Fest live on the show floor episode! Interviews from Los Angeles 2024! Los Angeles was so amazing and we got to sit down with 4 amazing coffee professionals who were presenting at this show. Today we will be focusing on what amounts to a couple of mini-Founder Fridays with 2 cafe owners in the LA area providing ground breaking spaces and service! Shanita Nichols Shanita's law practice has focused on general corporate start-up and venture capital financing work. She holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from the Columbia School of Engineering and Applied Science and a J.D./M.B.A. from Columbia Law and Business Schools. She became a Certified Q Grader for Arabica Coffee summer 2023. While practicing law at the same law firm, Amanda-Jane Thomas and Shanita Nicholas became friends. Eventually, the two women also became business partners, their dreams and passions converging into the creation of Sip & Sonder. Established in 2017 in Inglewood, CA, Sip & Sonder is a global Black women-owned coffee brand with a portfolio of coffeehouses, a coffee roastery, and digital content spaces. Link: www.sipandsonder.com Elisa Hoyos and Leo Abularch Picaresca Barra de Cafe opened its doors inside of a mini mall complex located on the far south corner of Boyle Heights right in the middle of the pandemic. Their journey began in an unlikely place, hidden, with no visibility and minimal foot traffic, but they managed to stay afloat. ' Today they occupy a larger space with a full kitchen and an off site roasting operation providing world class hospitality and service to their beautifully diverse neighborhood in Boyle Heights. Their coffee is truly some of the best in the city and I am thrilled to get to sit down with Leo and Elisa to talk about their journey. https://www.barrapicaresca.com/ Related episodes: 337: Founder Friday w/ Diana Martinez of Cafe Calle, Los Angeles 423 : Founder Friday! w/ Danny and Michelle Quiroz of Reserva Coffee Roasters | McAllen, TX 236 : Founder Friday! w/ Meil Castagna-Herrera & Curtis Herrera of Cafe Corazon! 348: Founder Friday! w/ Benito Burmudez of Cafe Unido, Panama City, Panama! 352: Music, Culture, and Coffee w/ Hip Hop Artist, Propaganda

How do you know when the price of your morning coffee is going to increase? Well, as a trader, we can help you to predict that. But more importantly, also how to trade coffee. Let's get into that a more right now. Hey there, Traders! Andrew Mitchem here at the Forex Trading Coach video and podcast number 558. The price of our morning coffee. I want to talk about coffee. How do you know when the price is going up? Because it affects us all every morning when we have a coffee. Well, the obvious answer to me as a trader is to look at your charts. When the beauty is over the last number of years that not only have we been able to trade more and more forex pairs, but we've been able to trade other markets such as like commodities and coffee. So the coffees that I have available on my MT5 platform, there are two of them. There are COFARA, which is the Arabica Coffee, and the COFROB which is the robusta coffee. And we can also trade sugar and raw sugar as well. So all these things combined to see if they're moving up. The likely hood is the price of your coffee is going to go up isn't it. We can now trade these commodity markets. But more importantly for me as a trader is I can now trade these markets. And the beauty of the way that I trade and the way that we teach, is that the strategy works equally as well across these other non forex markets, just as well as it does trading the EUR/USD or the GBP/USD or the AUD/JPY, we can trade the coffee markets, the sugar markets exactly the same. So that gives us more and more ability to look for the patterns that we're looking for on various charts. Now I would say one thing that with a lot of those markets, like the coffee trades, is that they don't all, have a 24 hour market. So they do need to be careful of that. And some of them, due to the nature of, their market hours. And when they open, they can have some gaps. So you do need to be careful of that. They're not quite as, perfectly formed as candle patterns. Then when you get on the forex markets. Taking a buy trade on Orange Juice. But just today, being Friday, the, 30th of, August when I'm recording this video on podcast for you, I've taken a trade on orange juice. Now, when the market opens, I'll be taking a by trade on OJ. So you can go and have a look at that on your daily charts. Now, if there's a large gap up or down, then the trade becomes invalid. But right now is a candle pattern for me. Orange juice looks fantastic. Lead, Copper & Aluminium traded this week. Just this week I've taken trades on different time frame charts, on lead, on copper, on aluminum or aluminum if you're in the US. On different markets like that. And so we have the ability to trade those commodities, those metals. we've got a client of ours to incredibly well trading the NASDAQ on the one and five minute charts. I don't think it's for everybody, but it just works for him. And he's doing incredibly well and posting trades on our forum site on that. we can trade other markets such as the indices and the commodities. Now the great and the cryptos, I should say. Cryptos are traded 7 days a week. And the great thing is with the cryptos is they are seven days a week. So you don't get those big gaps that you can sometimes get in the comm...

Welcome to Recap, a brief overview of recent coffee developments every two weeks from the Specialty Coffee Association. The Alliance for Coffee Excellence, or ACE, recently announced a partnership with scientific-traceability company Oritain. ACE's Cup of Excellence competition will provide samples to Oritain, who will then use them to build a database of coffee from all over the world that can be used to prove a coffee's origin. Oritain uses forensic science to analyse the unique ratio of elements and nutrients coffee absorbs from its environment, allowing the company to create a so-called “fingerprint.” The partnership hopes to provide greater supply chain verification and provide additional commercial opportunities for coffee farmers and traders. While it remains to be seen whether this tool will benefit farmers to the same degree it stands to benefit buyers, value chain research suggests that geographical identities can help producers retain value where they have ownership or control over how the denomination is defined and applied. A new study suggests that another fungus may have the capacity to suppress coffee leaf rust, offering a natural solution to pesticide treatments. Coffee leaf rust is caused by a parasitic fungus that attacks the leaves of coffee trees. While scientists were aware of a “hyperparasite” fungus that grows on top of the coffee leaf rust, very little is known about its biology. The study is the first to explore the interaction between coffee leaf rust and its hyperparasite in Ethiopia. Results suggest the hyperparasite co-evolved with coffee leaf rust and has the potential to thrive in more humid conditions, like those created by shade trees. More detailed experimental studies are needed to explore the relationship between leaf rust and its hyperparasite: the authors of the study did not investigate whether or not the presence of the hyperparasite could lead to better coffee yields. It's also important to note that the effect of both could change as the global climate shifts. But there is hope that the hyperparasite might reduce leaf drop associated with severe rust infections, enabling coffee growers to use it as a biological control.Following its exit from the European Union, the United Kingdom completed the process of joining the International Coffee Organization, or ICO, as an individual importing member. The tenth largest importer of coffee by volume, the UK has been the home of the ICO since its establishment in 1963. At a virtual ceremony celebrating the UK government's swift confirmation of its membership, the ICO also presented the findings of its most recent flagship report, the Coffee Development Report 2020. Titled “The Value of Coffee,” the report analyses coffee's global value chain through the lens of other global value chains. Finding that the value of annual coffee exports has more than quadrupled from 1991 to 2018, the report recommends a mix of initiatives, regulatory options, public-private collaborations, and information sharing to maximize the economic benefits of coffee farmers while ensuring social and environmental sustainability. If you want to dive deeper into anything you heard today, check out the links in the description of this episode. There are many varieties of the Arabica coffee (Coffea arabica) plant. Just like different apples or different wine varieties, coffee varieties look different and produce coffee that tastes different. In the early 18th century Arabica coffee plants were taken from their native Ethiopia and planted throughout the world. When this happened the genetic and phenotypic diversity narrowed dramatically. The first Arabica coffee variety planted outside of Ethiopia, Typica, remains the most common variety today. However, there are a handful of common varieties, each with their own unique story and flavor profile. This episode will discuss Typica, Bourbon, Maragojipe, Caturra, Catimor, Catuai, Timor Hybrid, Mundo Nuovo, Jamaica Blue Mountain, Kona, and Geisha varieties. This is part 2 of a two-part series on Arabica coffee varieties. In this episode we will discuss the individual varieties of coffee. How do coffee buyers identify the different varieties when visiting coffee farms? How are the common coffee varieties similar and how are they different? What are some classic flavor characteristics of each variety? Check out this episode to find out!
Arabica coffee (Coffea arabica) originated in the highlands of Ethiopia. It didn’t take long for humans to discover the stimulating effects of the fruit and beans of the coffee tree. Coffee quickly spread and became a global beverage as early as the 16th century after the Ottoman Empire conquered the Arabian Peninsula. Its rising popularity made coffee extremely valuable. The European powers, particularly the Dutch and French, set up coffee plantations on their colonies throughout the world. Just like different varieties of the apple tree or wine grape, Arabica coffee has many varieties that produce coffee cherries and beans with their own unique appearance and flavor. In its native homeland of Ethiopia the coffee tree has thousands of different native varieties. However, as coffee was transported from Ethiopia and planted elsewhere there was a narrowing of the genetic diversity. The result is that a small handful of varieties make up the majority of coffee produced today. This episode is part 1 of a two-part series on Arabica coffee varieties. In this episode we will discuss the history of coffee and how it spread from Ethiopia to the rest of the world. Part 2 of this series will then discuss the individual varieties of coffee.
Arabica coffee (Coffea arabica) is the most common type of coffee in the world. While it is the most delicious, diverse, and prized type of coffee, Arabica is also difficult to grow and sensitive to growing conditions. However, Arabica coffee is just one of 100 different species of coffee plant. Several other species of coffee, including Robusta coffee (Coffea canephora) are also grown for commercial use. This episode will cover the differences between Arabica coffee and Robusta coffee. Learn about the history, growing conditions, and flavor profile of each coffee species.
This short video is about a beautiful coffee shop called % Arabica in Kyoto Japan near Yasaka Shrine! The coffee was so good and location was so incredible, that we were inspired to do a short "commercial-like" video for it! We wanted to convey the awesome vibe and warmth that we felt over there as we waited for quite possibly the best perfect cup of coffee we've ever had. The owner of Arabica, Kenneth Shoji, has won many awards within coffee industry and is considered a world class Coffee Connoisseur; Because of that, % Arabica is considered one of the best Coffee Shop in the world. Check out Kenneth's Philosophy written in % Arabica's website (www.arabica.coffee), He talks about his history and how % Arabica came to fruition because of it. Really interesting read! If you are ever in Japan and end up in Kyoto, you have to visit Arabica % and get a nice cup of coffee as you explore the world famous Higashiyama District nearby.
