The government has fast-tracked legislation to strengthen the Triple Zero emergency call system following Optus' recent failures, which have been linked to at least three deaths. As parliament resumed, leaders also marked the second anniversary of Hamas's October 7 attack through southern Israel, which sparked the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The priority of the new session was to improve the emergency call network.
