An awesome outdoorsy special, with inspirational outdoor specialist, Rick Petersen. Rick featured in Season 2 of Alone Australia, and quickly became a fan fave (especially for Hame), with his unwavering positivity in the face of huge adversity and very little food! Beyond trying to stay alive on Alone, using his skills as an ex-soldier and expedition leader in the NT, Rick currently runs weekend camps for people looking to reconnect with the outdoors, including a special focus on dads and sons. As you'll find out, the deeper purpose beyond learning to build shelters and start a fire is Rick's passion to bring people together and foster powerful intergenerational connections, and Rick is a master at this.   We were lucky enough to experience this with Rick! He invited us up to QLD (or maybe we invited ourselves?) and we took the kids out bush for a few days, and it was just magic. His love and deep knowledge of nature, his calmness, his equanimity… It was amazing to witness the effect on our kids.  But we also eventually remembered we were there to record an episode, and wow… are we glad we did. Rick is so full of quiet, thoughtful wisdom, often hard earned and we just know so many people are going to get a lot from this chat. Rick, with amazing courage, also reflected on his childhood and revealed that tragically it involved him being the victim of child sexual abuse, so just a heads up that does come up in this episode. (support services listed below) Rick's openness and kindness is just so inspiring. The way he's made his life about giving back to the community, the beautiful relationship he has with his wife and two sons… it was a real privilege to spend time with him, and we reckon you'll feel the same way after listening to this. Sincere thanks to Rick. What a legend. And if you're interested in joining Rick for a weekend like this, go to rickjpetersen.com - We literally can't recommend it enough. PS - You can find heaps of awesome Rick TikTok content HERE and follow him on Insta HERE. PPS - if you wanna see just how full on the cliffs were on Tasman island where Rick spent the first few years of his life… Have a look HERE.  Crazy! —— SUPPORT SERVICES Information relating to child safety and protection may bring up strong feelings for some people. You can get support for you or anyone you know that has been affected by child sexual abuse at Bravehearts.org.au or Free Call 1800 272 831 - an organisation dedicated to the prevention and treatment of Child Sexual abuse that also offers counciling and education.  You can also go to www.childsafety.gov.au/get-support to see a wide range of support services. And Life Line is available 24 hours a day on 13 11 14 ----------------- Big thanks to HERTZ for helping make this special outdoorsy episode happen.  We used a couple of top-notch, brand new HERTZ 4WD's to lug all our gear and kids into the bush to camp with Rick, and of course the service was amazing, the kid's car seats were pre-fitted, the cars were sparkling clean (not by the end!) and the pick-up and drop-off experience was a breeze. Imagine going to your doctor and having treatment forced upon you. This is called compulsory treatment and in Australia it's legal. Compulsory mental health treatment is when a psychiatrist believes that a patient is at a severe risk of harming themselves or others, who can then be forced to take medication or undergo treatment. But how subjective is that decision on labelling the risk? And if the medical practitioner gets it wrong it means a loss of their rights, and quite often incredibly strong and debilitating medication. Dr Kay Wilson from the University of Melbourne joins the Briefing to explain how compulsory treatment works and the stigmas attached to mental health in Australia. NSW Police are trialling technology allowing them to remotely access Triple Zero callers' phones so they can see what's happening on the ground in an emergency. The GoodSAM app enables police dispatchers to turn on a caller's camera and start livestreaming video, as well as pinpointing their location, direction of travel and speed. Privacy experts have said while the app looks to be an effective tool, there are significant concerns about transparency, accountability and openness, and the lack of a guarantee people's data will be secure. With over twenty years' experience in the domestic violence sector, Brian Sullivan provides an insight into the mindset of an offender and violence used to dominate and control victim survivors within relationships. Leaning on his work with perpetrators as a facilitator of men's programs and his PhD research exploring the effectiveness of court-mandated programs for male DV offenders, this episode will help listeners identify the warning signs and encourage reflection of people's own behaviour to promote change, as well as act as a reminder that while our general focus is rightly on victims, to ultimately reduce domestic violence, we also need to focus on perpetrators. The Critical Banter Podcast

Massive week at TCB - we've gone to the top office in the land for help and the big dog Albo has come to our aid, reaching out to his Indonesian counterpart to negotiate the safe release of Ro from Bali's Kerobokan Prison. Meanwhile, Sen is off on a plane to Qatar getting a last minute call up from Arnie to join the Socceroos squad as specialist drinks carrier. Speaking of Qatar, huge week for Kushagra as he reveals he has well and truly caught World Cup fever, as he applies his Pro Clubs knowledge to real life ball. We also hear about his struggles with a hand me down iPhone 7+, eating escargot before Ro explains what a dating consultant is.“Stockholm Syndrome” is back and once again there is a twist. In this game we honour the biggest event of the year, one that has been anticipated for a number of years and is set in a distant Arab land - we are of course talking about Warzone 2. In this version of “Stockholm Syndrome,” Kush and Ro must guess between locations on the new Warzone 2 map or footballers at the World Cup.“Heroes and Villains” is a new segment where we can freely slander people we know under the guise of labelling them ‘Heroes' or ‘Villains.' Simple premise: the boys discuss actions of individuals with questionable or ambiguous morals and they must decide whether they can be considered a hero or a villain. To kick us off, Kush submits himself for judgement, then throws the Coffee Constable under the bus, we also hear about Mig's bad friend, before ending on Ro's Triple Zero bandit of a housemate. Also this week: Warzone, fashion consultants, Taraq, lox beats slander and the Darlinghurst Batman.Segments this week:The Logue: Tired of reaching around each other (at least on the podcast), the boys have instead decided to reach around the week's news stories, events and viral trends.Stockholm Syndrome: This segment has nothing to do with actual Stockholm Syndrome, instead this is a game where the boys try to distinguish between IKEA products and another unrelated category.Heroes and Villains: The boys discuss the morality and actions of dubious characters they come across in society.______________________________________________SPONSORS

Lyn Jeffs & Jason Evans of Ingested & I have a conversation about how they coped with their time at home, becoming sober, signing to Metal Blade Records, "Ashes Lie Still", working with Christian Donaldson, touring as a 3-piece, mental health & the silver lining of their pandemic. Throughout this chat, Lyn drank Ambar's "Triple Zero" the non-alcoholic beer, Jason drank Beck's "Blue" the non-alcoholic Pilsner lager & I enjoyed Wake Brewing x At the Gates' "The Flames of the End" the 8.2% Double Dry Hopped Hazy IPA with Cloudberries. This is a Heavy Montreal presents Vox&Hops episode! Heavy Montreal is Montreal's premier metal promoter. They host one of North America's best Metal Festivals & present countless amazing events during the rest of the year. I am truly honored & extremely excited to have them involved in the podcast.
