If there was one thing you think society should talk more about, what would it be?“Overcoming adversity using a resilient mindset.” I'm talking today to a woman known as the “Queen of Resilience”! Justine Martin has a story that is hard to believe and she has used the adversity that has happened to her to now help others. Ten years ago Justine was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Then she underwent three heart surgeries, and followed that up with three primary cancers. All that happening to one person - much of it at the same time is bloody hard to comprehend. Justine was told she would never work again - but that was never an option for her. Justine catapulted herself into the world of business. She not only changed her life to give it purpose & direction but also inspired those around her with her story. To be resilient means the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; a toughness. This definition has been the cornerstone of Justine's extraordinary journey over the last decade, a journey no one could fathom, but what Justine believes, a journey that has changed her for the better. After learning how to paint and using her art as therapy, she has become a multi-award-winning artist and found the strength and determination to take control of her financial future. She is also a Resilience Consultant & Speaker and the owner and founder of the Resilience Mindset, where she draws on her years of experience and knowledge, consulting with clients to develop and sustain a positive mindset. Justine has just won five awards at the AusMumpreneur Awards including GOLD for Coach of the Year! I was introduced to Justine through a friend of hers who felt we'd have a lot to talk about. It was wonderful to chat to Justine and learn how she's overcome so much adversity. I hope you enjoy this very different conversation today with the incredible, Justine Martin. Today's podcast is a conversation about Birth Trauma with Dr Erin Bowe. We speak about: What is a birth trauma? How to know if you may be experiencing birth trauma How partners can also experience birth trauma How to approach pregnancy and delivery post trauma And much more. Dr. Erin Bowe is a Clinical & Perinatal Psychologist, Course Creator, Business Mentor and Author of More Than a Healthy Baby: Finding Strength & Growth After Birth Trauma. She has 12+ years experience supporting families through trauma to find growth, strength and beautiful resilience they never knew possible. Her online courses have over 2400 students from 36 countries. She previously taught childbirth education with Hypnobirthing Australia and ran Birth Trauma Training for Birth workers - the podcast. She has been featured in the Sydney Morning Herald, Kidspot, Essential Baby & Essential Kids. In 2020 she was a finalist in 2 categories for the AusMumpreneur Awards. After experiencing her own birth trauma (twice!) she quickly learned how little support and training there is for our birth workers who hear and witness these stories every day. From this, she developed two birth trauma training courses – one for parents, and one for birth workers. She has attracted over 2000 students in less than 12 months, so this speaks volumes to how much this work is needed. You can learn more about Erin here: www.doctorerin.com.au
In this episode of the Social Lights Podcast, podcast host and https://www.socialmediology.com.au/ (Social Mediology) founder Kate vanderVoort chats with Lucy Good, founder of https://beanstalkmums.com.au/ (Beanstalk Single Mums) and the popular Facebook group, The Single Mum Vine. Lucy has been named as a finalist for the 2018 AusMumpreneur Awards in two categories: Making A Difference (business) and Women Changing the World. About Lucy Lucy Good is the founder of Beanstalk Single Mums, an online space which empowers single mothers to re-find their potential and re-build their confidence through a website that delivers targeted information and support. Lucy works with hundreds of single mothers through the offering of her online course and her Facebook group, the Single Mum Vine. She sits at the centre of the think-tank of modern-day single motherhood and is a sought-after social commentator on single parent issues. As well as having her own blog and podcast series, she has appeared several times on national television, speaks regularly on national and local radio and writes articles for online and print parenting, news, lifestyle, and business communities. Lucy's blog and podcast series are designed to support and empower single mums from all walks of life and on every stage of their single mother journey. Her podcast covers all areas of single motherhood including separation, family law, children of divorce, co-parenting, solo-parenting, education, careers, dating, sex, health, household, and a range of money matters. BIG IDEA 1 “The guidelines that you have for your group are imperative” (12:40) Lucy discusses the importance of having a set of guidelines. The guidelines are imperative and need to be stuck to. The guidelines in Lucy's group include things like: - We, we don't allow rants. You can't just come on and have a whinge. Now you can come on and say, look, I've had a really crap day because this has happened. Wonder if anyone else has been through the same or anyone's got any solutions or suggestions as I can as how I can get over it. But you can't just come on and say, I've just had a crap day because that helps one person, that one person who's put the post on and it brings down everybody else that reads it. - We don't allow man-hating or ex bashing in the group. So we're about trying to foster positive relationships with your ex partners, if at all possible. So we'd love it if someone comes on and says, Hey, you know my ex and I went into this with the kids today, we had a great day. - We have a lot of rules around what you can post, like no medical posts. You can't put a post on there because then you get all these people who have no idea what they're talking about, providing medical information. And we have had it in the past where we've had a kid in hospital because someone's given the wrong advice. The guidelines are set up for a reason. BIG IDEA 2 “You often get a topic which just keeps coming onto the thread over and over again. Sometimes it's a topic that doesn't really work with what the group is about” (22:53) In discussing repetitive posts or posts that go off topic Lucy says; One other thing as well, that's really important is you'll notice that in groups, you often get a topic which just keeps coming onto the thread over and over again. Sometimes it's a topic that doesn't really work with what the group is about, but it has to be there. So for my group that's Centrelink, everyone's got questions about Centrelink and they just flood the feed. Now the feed is meant to be upbeat, inspirational, funny, and Centrelink none of those. So if that happens, then just create a weekly thread, say or a weekly posts and say, please keep all your child support and Centrelink questions within this weekly thread. And that just helps to...

Small Biz Matters – a half hour program each week where you can work ON your business rather than IN it.with Alexi Boyd from Boyd Office Management ServicesDate: 18 December 2018 It’s not often you have local small business royalty in Da Triple H House but we certainly have someone here today who will inspire. Rachel Chappell built her small business from an idea, meeting the needs of her thousands of clients and impeccable technological timing. North Shore Mums started as a Facebook group in May 2012, when Rachel Chappell moved to Sydney’s leafy North Shore with her husband, toddler and new baby. With lots of questions about things like childcare centres, kid-friendly cafes, the best playgrounds and doctors… and only a few local friends to ask, she realised she wouldn’t get the answers from her immediate social circle. So, on a whim, she created a Facebook group called North Shore Mums, to help her connect with other local mums. Rachel proudly hires locally, runs her business, happily gives small business advice and still manages to find the time to meet the needs of her local community. In truth, she never forgets the real meaning of her Why in her business and is here today to inspire others in their small business journey. And that’s why last week received NSW Government Woman of the Year for Hornsby. Welcome to the show Rachel. Topics we’ll be covering: Tell us about your small business journey and what led to you starting North Shore Mums? Why do you think it’s important for businesses to integrate community involvement into their business plan and what’s your top tips on how to grow that relationship? Do you think it’s an advantage to employ locally and what benefits does it provide for your business and also the local community? It’s not always a smooth ride so what Do’s and Don’t wisdom can you impart on those just starting out in business? What’s your ultimate dream for your business? To find out more go to their website: https://www.northshoremums.com.au/ RACHEL CHAPPELL BIO Rachel Chappell is happily married to an English gent, and a mum to three daughters (aged 3, 7 & 9), who were the inspiration behind the creation of North Shore Mums. Originally from Adelaide, Rachel moved to Sydney after leaving school and has made the North Shore her home, living in Waverton, Gordon and Wahroonga along the way, which has given her the broad local knowledge needed to run a website that caters to the needs of women across the community. With a Bachelor of Media and Master of Business in Marketing, and bolstered by her experience working as Marketing Manager on magazines like Grazia, OK! and FHM, Rachel has used her skills, instinct and experience to make North Shore Mums a cyber-village welcoming mums from across the North Shore. Since launching North Shore Mums in May 2012, the website has grown to become an integral source of information for local mums, with the website now attracting over 100,000 visitors per month. In 2017, Rachel was asked to be a contestant in Cancer Council’s Stars of the North (a local fundraising gala event, based on the popular TV show ‘Dancing with the Stars’. Rachel came 2nd overall in the Judge’s Choice and 3rd in Fundraising, raising $18,000 for the charity. Rachel Chappell was a Finalist in the AusMumpreneur Awards 2017 – in the categories of Business Excellence and Influencer. Danielle had decided with her partner that they would start trying for a baby at 27 and they fell pregnant literally on their first attempt. Danielle's reaction was not what she had expected at all. She was freaking out. Even though her pregnancy was planned, she realized she wasn't 100% ready. She read over a million books and never really came to terms with her pregnancy. Danielle became so preoccupied and anxious with how she would come when the baby came that she didn't really focus on the birth itself. To hear more of Danielle's story tune into this week's show. If you'd like to become a Patreon member and help support the show head over to birthstories I've been nominated for the Ausmumpreneur Awards. Its a huge honour to be nominated and the people's choice voting has just opened.
