On Thursday, July 19, 2007, police arrived at the San Diego home of Tim MacNeil. It was here where police found Tim's body lying in his game room lying in a pool of blood. The back door was wide open, there was a gun on the back porch and Tim's daughter, 17 year-old Bray was tied up with zip ties, hysterically crying. Bray told police that a masked man had broke into the home, tied her and her father up then shot and killed her father. Just a mile away from the home police would find a black ski mask in the trees and when tested, there was DNA belonging to Bray's 19 year-old brother, Nathan Mcneil. When Nathan was questioned, he claimed it was Bray's idea and she forced him into it. But ironically, when Bray was questioned, she said it was Nathan's idea and HE had forced HER. But when the police looked through the teen's phone they would find that not only were both of them equally involved, but they also had been planning this murder for months. Unpopular opinion: motherhood can be boring. Not everyone adapts well to the demands and slow pace and ultimate isolation of baby life. But also, not enough women talk about the new mom struggles because they feel so guilty for feeling that way to begin with and are terrified of being judged. In short: mom guilt keeps us from finding the other women who are sharing our struggles who could validate our experience. This week host Amanda Haro is joined by Roula Abou Haidar, who shares her story of motherhood with the honesty we've all been waiting for. They discuss: ✨ The challenges of being a new mom as an immigrant ✨ Hating being a stay at home mom ✨ How hard and painful breastfeeding can be and letting go of the mom guilt around using formula ✨ Divorce and peaceful co-parenting ✨ The decision to remarry & choosing to have another kid ✨ The importance of having boundaries as a mom Connect more with Amanda, burnout and confidence coach for moms, here. When did we come to believe the best thing, you can do with death is ride off from it?In ‘Cowboys Are Not Supposed to Cry,' Mark W. Schutter tells his story of living a life with grief that began in his mid-twenties. The death of his young wife left him alone, and although life was tough, he vowed to show the world that he was tougher.Remarrying and having a daughter, to onlookers, from the outside, life seemed happy again, until in an anguished night of prayer, Mark heard the words that to be the husband and father he wanted to be, he must:• reconcile the past• embrace the present• redeem the future‘Cowboys Are Not Supposed to Cry' is a story that will challenge you with questions thatoften have no answers about death, life, love, and the way we think about grief. In thismemoir of love, loss, grief, and healing, Mark shares his experiences, trying to be who hethought everyone expected him to be.This account, written from the unique perspective of a man, questions what societydeems acceptable behavior for grieving men and their healing. This journey is one we all must face, full of deep love, painful loss, and the healing of the soul.Mark pulls back the curtain to show how death is only the beginning. You will carry yourgrief; the joys and sorrows occupy the same space because healing is never perfect, andthat is okay because there is always hope. Grief is not something you just get over, andeven the toughest cowboys may sometimes cry.

The experience of watching his first wife die at age 26 from breast cancer forced him to question the meaning of life in his search for answers that impact his writings to this day.He has lived his entire life in the Pacific Northwest where the land, nature and people both inspire and fuel his writing. His poetry has been featured in several print and online publications as he works on his first full-length book of his poetry that explores the pain that we all face during our lives and the hope that can rise.He is happily remarried to a wonderful woman who he claims is the most beautiful and strongest woman he has ever known. He has been blessed with a beautiful daughter who keeps him young in this second chapter of life that he has been granted. He enjoys horses and mountain biking when not writing. He believes in the ‘ripple effect,' touch one life and you may touch the world, for to share the journey, however brief, is a wonderful gift. His wish is to share the joys, the sorrows, the hope and healing to inspire others to live despite the grief we all carry because there is “life after…”https://markschutter.com/Support the show (https://judgingmeghan.com/support/)Support the show (https://judgingmeghan.com/support/)

If forced to choose which of these two treasures would most flavor your Christianity, which would you pick? The Word of God or The power of the Holy Spirit Quite the dilemma, isn't it? Well, thanks be to God that He has never asked us to choose, nor will He. Sadly, many (if not most) churches and denominations want us to do so. A great divorce has occurred and Christians are often forced to pick which parent they will live with: Word or Spirit. The early Church was marked by God with apostolic truth (the Word) and Holy Spirit's supernatural gifts and power (the Spirit). Why should today's manifestation of Christianity be any different? We must prioritize both. In this podcast, Jeff Lyle calls us to embrace the remarriage of Word and Spirit in our own walks and in the churches wherein we worship and serve. We cannot afford to prioritize either one while ignoring the other. The early Christians required both in their generation and so do we.

Mercedes Okwukogu is a woman to be admired. In the past three weeks, Nigerian Facebook has been greatly shaken. On Ola Bisi's Facebook wall, she started sharing stories of women who are divorced. She used the hashtag, #DivorceNotStigma, and I was one of the women whose stories got shared. She reached out to me to share my story, and even before she reached out, I was planning on doing so anyway. Of course, my own story was already very public, so sharing a summary of it on Facebook was no problem. It was through this series that I met today's guest, Mercedes Okwukogu.Let me tell you a bit about Mercedes Okwukogu. She's an engineer in Nigeria, six feet tall, absolutely beautiful, 42, a strong woman by all indications, and a pleasure to be around --- even virtually. Although she did not describe herself as humble, this was a trait I picked up from her through our long conversation (we spoke extensively on the phone before we actually recorded our podcast). You can connect with Mercedes Okwukogu on her Facebook page or through Whatsapp: +234-909-916-2263The point of today's episode is not to rehash everything that went wrong in the marriage of Mercedes Okwukogu, but to discuss where she is now, how she feels about remarrying and dating in general. You may remember that I already shared my thoughts on remarriage. Listen and learn!

Everyone wants to be financially secure when they retire but each person has a different way of defining what that means. From leaving a legacy to never running out of money, peace of mind comes in a variety of forms. Let’s examine the most common meaning for financial security and what that means in retirement. Plus, we’ll answer a few mailbag questions about remarrying, advisors, and a recession. On this episode: 0:42 – Fact of the week: 50 years ago, 76% of America’s 26-year-olds lived with their spouse. Now that number is 24%. 3:09 – The average marrying age has gone up in the 21st century. 3:39 – This impacts financial planning because many people nearing retirement are having to care for their parents and their children. 5:02 – What do people mean when they say they want ‘financial security’? The first thing people care about is not being a burden on your children. 6:18 – For some people, it means not running out of money in retirement. 7:23 – Another definition is reliance on a paycheck which means some people want to go back to work. 8:48 – For other people it means not having to make choices on what you spend your money on. 10:17 – Other people don’t want to watch their accounts bounce up and down. 13:20 – In the news: A lady recently died at 102 and DirecTV tried to charge her son an early termination fee for closing the account. 14:41 – Financial Dictionary: What does NUA stand for and how it can benefit you? 17:50 – Mailbag question: My husband died 15 years ago and never considered getting remarried until now. It makes me nervous to sell my house and combine finances. What would your recommend? 19:05 – Mailbag question: I’ve talked to multiple advisors about how they get paid and it sounds like they all have completely different models. Are there this many different fee structures or does everyone explain it differently? 21:11 – Mailbag question: Should I be planning for a recession? Be honest. I can handle it.
