Angela is joined for this bitesize episode by Simon Ong to look at the complexities of balancing work, family, and personal well-being. They candidly discuss the common feelings of guilt that many individuals, especially women, experience when juggling various responsibilities. Through personal anecdotes and case studies, they explore the societal pressures that contribute to these feelings of guilt and the importance of setting boundaries. KEY TAKEAWAYS Finding peace with the setup of work and family responsibilities can lead to being more present and productive in both areas. Setting boundaries and utilising time effectively can enhance the quality of time spent with family. Setting boundaries in work hours can lead to improved performance and decision-making. By creating limits, individuals can focus on tasks efficiently and rely more on intuition, leading to better outcomes. Conducting regular energy audits in physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual dimensions can help in maintaining a balanced and energised state. Engaging in activities like exercise, reading, journaling, and reflecting on values can contribute to overall well-being. BEST MOMENTS "When she comes home, we as parents have had some rest, we've been able to move forward in the things that are meaningful for us." "I think one of the major contributors is the fact that I had this boundary because once I had the boundary in place I did not have time to overthink." "I see it in four dimensions. So physical energy, mental energy, emotional energy, and spiritual energy." After two pregnancies, health and fitness was always on Daksha's mind. She wanted to feel, look and perform at her best, but nothing really clicked for her. Until her husband Devin came home one day and suggested they jump on RNT together. Having never weight trained before, Daksha went all in on the process to push herself beyond what she thought was possible. She built consistency, found her routine, and even booked herself a photoshoot, where she was in the best shape of her life! Now having consolidated really well, she's set her sight on performance goals such as getting her first chin-up and push-up, whilst also picking up running. This is an awesome example of what's possible when you dive in headfirst, trust the process, and reap the rewards of your efforts. To check out Daksha's shoot pictures, have a look at her case study in the show notes section. Book A Call To Start Your Journey! Thanks so much for listening! The phrase I hate to hear the most - ‘You are a super mum! How do you run a business with four kids?’ Let’s get this straight… Supermum is a dirty word, it sets us up to unfairly judge ourselves with unrealistic expectations. Trust me… it's a daily battle for me too! To speak into this I decided it’s time to pull out the big guns

When we lead ourselves properly, we make an example to the people that look up to us, including our children. Realize that work never really comes to an end. Which is why you have to take time to recharge yourself - you need to do this so that you have enough energy to tackle the tasks. Let yourself be comfortable in letting yourself be.Put intentional 5 minute disruptions in your day. Schedule breaks in your day that you won't let anything interrupt. Practice staying in the present and doing breathing exercises. Take the time to breathe, it will fill you with life. This solo episode is not only the last one of this season and of 2018 - it also represents a final chapter in the Yorks' life. In this episode, I - Lisa York - talk about our family's journey of beating childhood cancer, as our third son, Benny, prepares to have his last chemotherapy treatment on the 21st December 2018 in Sydney. An uncut, unedited video version of this episode is also available, so if you'd like to get an idea of what recording a podcast entails (warts and all) here's your chance. As you may already know if you're a regular listener to the show, our son Benny was diagnosed with leukemia shortly before his third birthday when we were living in London (UK). In this episode, I talk you through Benny's devastating diagnosis, those hard few months of chemotherapy, and how we handled our darkest hour after moving to Canberra (Australia). It's a story full of twists and turns, lots of tears, tiredness, and difficulties. But as we move back to Sydney and prepare for Benny's last treatment, we are entering a new, exciting chapter of our lives. I am grateful for the people who shared this journey with us and feel lucky and blessed for the way Benny's leukemia has changed me and helped me grow as a person. This podcast and my online membership - Let's Conquer Motherhood - wouldn't exist if it wasn't for what we experienced over the last few years. We are a family who survived childhood cancer. And for me, the lesson to be learnt is that there's something good in every situation, even in adversity. So I want you to hold on to this. Tomorrow is another day. And you too, will get through it. Emma offers one to one psychological therapy, as well as group support. She is a keen writer and campaigner for issues related to mental health and parenting and co-founded the Make Birth Better network with Dr Rebecca Moore. This episode is sponsored by Let's Conquer Motherhood, the online membership program Lore Earley-Goldstein has a gift. She can read people at soul level. Originally a teacher, Lore re-trained in traditional psychotherapy after realising that something just wasn't adding up for her. Feeling lost, inadequate, and often 'broken', she struggled for a long time - deep down she knew she was meant to be on a different path and do greater work. Eventually, Lore found the courage to release the baggage that no longer served her and to start living according to who she really is, at soul level. She found her purpose. And now she helps others learn what their purpose is, so they can use their unique strengths and skills to build careers and relationships where they can thrive and flourish. Lore's journey in moving away from a life that was built on external expectations wasn't easy. It involved a lot of soul-searching, and she went through an extremely emotional and difficult time, which even resulted in the end of her first marriage. While going through divorce, Lore also walked away from her career in psychotherapy, but it all paid off. She's now married to her soulmate and has built a successful career around her deep calling. Business Coach and Let's Conquer Motherhood member Jessica Fearnley is a healthy mum of two young boys and runs a successful business around her and her family's needs. But getting to where she is today wasn't always easy. About 8 years ago, and only a few months into her marriage, things came to a head for Jessica. Feeling unwell, exhausted, and completely broken and burnt out after years of working extremely hard and putting pressure on herself, Jessica decided to leave the corporate world and the career she had worked so hard to build. Emotionally and physically at an all-time low and unable to work, she did the only thing she felt she could do. She took time out and built herself up again one tiny step at the time. When Jessica fell pregnant with her first child, a lot of the symptoms she had experienced as a result of stress and anxiety made an unwelcome come back into her life. And needless to say, her dream of having an idyllic 9 months was totally crushed. After a difficult birth, Jessica struggled to adjust to life with a newborn, and she very quickly realised that she was keen to put her professional experience to good use again, but she had to do it on her terms. So when her son was only 4 months old, Jessica's business was born. One where you're not just surviving, but where you're also thriving. If that wasn't enough, she also homeschools her four children. Having started her first seasonal business as a side-hustle while she still worked in her corporate job, Rhonda quickly realised she had a choice. Newborn babies don't sleep very well. But in Vicki's case, her son's challenging sleeping patterns continued for a number of years. Needless to say, this left Vicki chronically sleep-deprived and feeling totally exhausted and isolated as a result. Her experience, and the way it affected both her personal and professional life, led to the creation of The Children's Sleep Charity, which offers information and strategies to parents and professionals in supporting and educating families around sleep. Through her work, Vicki empowers families who are struggling with sleep to make the changes that are right for them. These can include creating sleep plans, practising breathing and mindfulness exercises, and learning strategies to create a calmer and less tense environment around bedtime. With a lot of information out there focused on children's sleep, Vicki reminds us that a mother's sleep habits can still be negatively impacted long after her children are sleeping through the night. As busy mums, we have a duty to prioritise our sleep in order to stay well, become more effective, and keep our families safe, which is why in this episode Vicki shares tips to help mums sleep better. During this interview, you'll learn why what you choose to do in the hour before you go to bed can dramatically improve your sleep quality. By the end of this episode, you'll have a number of practical strategies to get more in synch with your body and relax before bedtime, including a list of foods that you should or shouldn't eat before bed. You'll also learn what causes you to wake in the night and what you can do if you struggle to fall asleep again. Follow Vicki's advice, and you'll be ready to sleep like a baby. Newly married, pregnant, and in her twenties, Emily Hodge received a devastating cancer diagnosis that would change the course of her life in many ways. One of which was losing her baby and being unable (so far) to conceive again. That was a few years ago and, after 15 years working as a Health Psychologist in the NHS, Emily used her experience to help others. She's now a successful Life Coach and has helped and supported hundreds of people, including other cancer patients, to lead happier, healthier, and more fulfilling lives. Over the years, working with people on a one-to-one basis and in group settings, Emily started to notice something. No matter who you are, where you're from or what your backstory is, we all want similar things - to feel happier, calmer, more focused and to lead a life that's right for us. So in 2017, Emily launched her signature group programme - the Gentle Life course, which guides rushed, busy and stressed out women over 6 weeks to map out what living more gently means to them. It provides them with the tools and strategies to kickstart the lifelong work that will help them lead the life they want to live (so that they might shout less at their kids, be happier in their relationships and be so much kinder to themselves). In this episode, you'll learn how checking in with your feelings, thoughts, and emotions allows you to re-define your behaviours, actions, and habits. By becoming more aware of the way you spend your time, you'll find out how you can start to say no to the things you don't really want, so you can gradually replace them with the things that you do. If you're ready to find a little bit of space and calm in your life, learn how to be kinder to yourself, and discover some practical tools that will help you develop your emotional resilience, tune in and discover the five steps that Emily shares that will help you live more gently. During a break from her career, Pragya had turned her hobby of print-making into a business by setting up her own art studio Hedge and Hog Prints. And in 2017, inspired by her twins' multiple allergies, she founded The Art Tiffin, a vegan and eco-friendly box of art material. A family-run and ethical business, The Art Tiffin is the first social enterprise to actively campaign for cruelty-free art materials. Pragya is passionate about helping families find the most natural, toxic-free products, and fostering creativity in children from a young age, but she also knows how important it is to raise awareness about mental health and make a positive social impact by giving back to charities. In this episode, Pragya walks you through the research and neuroscience behind creativity, something that she believes we can all find inside of ourselves. She explains how taking only a few minutes out of your busy days to do something creative can do wonders for your mental health and wellbeing. And if you think you're not the creative type, hold on. Because you'll find out exactly what being creative means and what you can do to express your own creativity. Soon after Melissa Brujin had her first child, she realised that things weren't quite right. Struggling to bond with her baby, wracked with anxiety about her abilities as a mum, and experiencing a general loss of confidence, she wondered what was wrong with her. Although she sought help, she couldn't find anything appropriate in her hometown. Thankfully, there was one person she could turn to: her sister-in-law and midwife Debby Gould. With Debby's help, plus the wonderful online support she eventually found from mothers on the other side of the world and alongside her own research, Melissa was able to connect the dots and recognise that her emotions and experience of early motherhood had been strongly impacted by the traumatic birth of her first child. Fast forward 19 years, Melissa (now a happy and healed mother of three) and mum-of-two Debby (now a birth consultant), have helped thousands of women and families to heal from traumatic birth experiences through their work at Birthtalk.org. Melissa and Debby co-authored the book How to Heal a Bad Birth where they emphasise that a traumatic birth where the mother doesn't feel heard or supported, or where she feels frightened or out of control, isn't just something to just 'get over'. Through the book, their in-person workshops and individual consultations, Melissa and Debby have been supporting mothers all over the world to recover from their birthing experiences, so that they can go on to have positive and empowering subsequent births, or if they are not having more babies, they can go back to their families feeling more at peace and able to move on. In this episode, you'll understand what defines a 'bad' birth and how a challenging experience can negatively impact your mental health. You'll find out how a traumatic experience can affect women for years to come, if not unpicked and addressed in the right way. You'll also learn how to create your own personalised healing journey by looking at the way you feel now and reflecting back on the life-changing experience of childbirth. If you suffer from niggling symptoms and never quite feel in best health, you probably put it down to your busy life, reach for the painkillers, and try to get on with your day as best you can. But did you know that your body is giving you these warning signs and signals that there might be an underlying dysfunction? Your job is to learn to listen to the messages your body is giving you, understand why this is happening, and do something about it. That's what Jackie Bowker, the mum of a 3 and 6 year old, did. After suffering from adrenal depletion, chronic fatigue syndrome and a decades-long disordered eating and sugar addiction, Jackie learnt first-hand the profound power of food as medicine. As a result of her illness, Jackie became passionate about restoring bodies back to balance to achieve optimal health, and became a Functional Nutritionist. Jackie went on to establish Hello Happy where, amongst other things, runs a transformative 21 Day Nutrition Course and Plan to detox, reset and revitalise your body to live a healthier life. In this episode, Jackie will help you identify the root cause of your dysfunction and will set you on the path to heal the body through nutrition, without the need for synthetic drugs or surgery. Her philosophy is simple: the symptoms you're experiencing like digestive issues, weight gain, infertility, adult acne, anxiety etc, result from weaknesses in the body's physiological foundations. And it can all be fixed by cleaning up your diet and lifestyle. Follow Jackie's advice and you'll start to feel vibrant again. You'll shed excess weight, look and feel fantastic and watch niggly problems melt away. As one of her clients so eloquently put it, "Jackie has turned my sluggish body into a strong, lean, high functioning machine and I am now so much better equipped to deal with life's challenges such as raising a small family of 5 with 3 children under 3." As the mum of a small baby and a two year old, Liz Sergeant knows first hand how much of her energy her kids use up. But unlike the rest of us, Liz has a sneaky advantage. She's a registered nutritionist and understands that what you eat not only affects your energy levels, but also your sleep quality, mood, concentration, digestion, body shape and many other health complaints. Liz believes that the foundation of good nutrition and health is based on eating real foods. She also knows that mums lead busy lives, and with so much conflicting dietary advice out there, this can be a lot harder than it sounds. She founded The Well Nourished Club to help cut through the confusion and support people to change their diet, improve their nutrition and achieve their goals. But this episode goes beyond just food. Liz takes a holistic approach and as well as talking about nutrition, we discuss adapting to motherhood while running a business, avoiding burnout, and getting the balance right by recognising your limitations and being realistic in what you can achieve. Your body is your most precious possession and Liz is here to help you look after it. By the end of this episode you will cast aside the chocolate cake, reclaim your flagging energy, and, like Liz, may even consider eating vegetables for breakfast!
