In this week's episode, McKay discusses the importance of an abundance mindset. He opens the podcast by discussing Britney Bowe's Olympic history and her decision to give up her spot in the 2022 Olympic trials to Erin Jackson. This selfless act hardly granted Bowe a medal, but it led Jackson to win gold in the women's 500 m speed skating event. Christensen argues that this is a prime example of abundance thinking and grace. Because humans tend to resent and envy the success of others, especially those in close proximity, Christensen urges the audience to replace envy and resentment with grace. He then goes on to detail another Olympic tale between Mikaela Shiffrin and Sophia Goggia. After Shiffrin practiced with Goggia's skis and got her fastest time, Goggia gave Shiffrin her skis before an event in the hopes that she might be as successful in the competition as she was in practice. The story exemplifies how abundance and grace can transform our attitudes and help others in a positive way. In contrast, McKay then tells the audience about the tense relationship between Thomas Edison and his once student, Nikola Tesla. When Edison dismissed and admonished Tesla for one of his suggestions, Tesla quit and decided to patent his own ideas. He eventually received the notoriety he deserved and was tasked with engineering Chicago's famous World Fair instead of Thomas Edison. McKay segues into the episode's conclusion where he discusses the inherent value of personal worth and security that comes from an abundant mindset. He closes out the podcast with a quick anecdote about Jesse Owens and Luz Long's friendship that blossomed from the 1936 Olympic Games. Long is rumored to have given Owens advice before his gold medal run, despite being Owens' opposition. While Owens came out on top, the pair developed a lifelong friendship in the face of a disapproving Nazi Germany. Long story short, McKay advises that if we truly believe that there is enough success and happiness to go round, prosperity will come. The Finer Details of This Episode:The story of Britney Bowe giving up her spot so that Erin Jackson could win GoldThe importance of rejoicing in others' victoriesWhat abundant thinking isWhy we resent others' successMen envy occupational success; women envy physical attractivenessWhy we envy close friends moreHow to replace envy with graceSophia Goggia gifting Mikaela Shiffrin her skis for an eventEdison's scarcity mentality and how he devalued Tesla's ideasThe inherent value of personal worth and securityThe friendship between Jesse Owens and Luz LongQuotes: “Every day, in most things we do, we have a choice. Quote of The Day: "While you might be doubting yourself, others could be admiring your strength." Host: TOLA Omoniyi
Aisha Bowe is an aerospace engineer and the founder of the engineering consultancy firm STEMBoard. Bowe wasn't always an engineering wizard. In high school, she struggled to connect academically and enrolled in community college with little hope that any field could interest her. But a teacher identified her strengths and suggested she try out engineering. She thrived in her engineering courses, and her confidence and sense of possibility for her career began to grow. She followed this passion to the University of Michigan, where she gained two degrees in aerospace engineering. Bowe interned at NASA in college and then was hired full-time. She ultimately spent seven years there, working on small spacecraft and flight trajectory dynamics. In 2013, she founded STEMBoard, a startup that provides engineering services and solutions—a feat she accomplished without any outside funding—and eventually left her job at NASA to pursue her startup full-time. In 2020, she founded Lingo, a company that creates self-paced, at-home STEM education kits for kids. Earlier this year, it was announced that she would be the first Black woman to travel to space with Blue Origin, the spaceflight company founded by Jeff Bezos.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Welcome to the daily304 – your window into Wonderful, Almost Heaven, West Virginia. Today is Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024. Marshall's film degree program creates opportunities for a Fairmont resident as the city pitches in on her capstone project…Cool off at the new splash pad at Twin Falls Resort…and Barnwood Living offers chic tiny cabins for rent in Almost Heaven…on today's daily304. #1 – From TIMES WV – Firefighters from the Fairmont Fire Department waited for their cue outside the Marion County Courthouse. On Trinity Rollins' orders, they unleashed a jet of water into the air and the droplets splashed down on students from Shawna Santee's 5th Street Center for Dance. Rollins, 21, used the power of movie magic to recreate one of her younger experiences in Fairmont. Her professor told students to write what they know. So Rollins wrote about one memorable performance from 2021 when her dance class performed in the rain after a city parade was canceled. The short film, “It's Only a Parade,” was part of Rollins' capstone project at Marshall University in which she had to pitch, plan and script a film project. Rollins put her production together at the same time more opportunities for video and film production are beginning to pop up in West Virginia. Tax incentives for film production have returned at the state level. At the same time, Marshall launched the state's first bachelor's degree program in filmmaking in the fall. The Lily Pad Splash Park has several water features including a dump cylinder that drops hundreds of gallons of water every five minutes, water blasters, water cannons, sprinklers, splashing frogs, and an aqua table. Splash park users can also enjoy a lounge area and a small refreshment and retail area that sells a variety of frozen treats, drinks, snacks, logo apparel and beach towels. The splash pad was part of a $4 million bond project that included rebuilding the Twin Falls Resort Pro Shop, which opened in the spring of 2023. Additional ongoing projects at Twin Falls include adding a climbing wall and relocating the parks' nature center. The Falls Trail is also receiving a boardwalk and trail enhancements. Read more: https://wvstateparks.com/press-release/new-twin-falls-resort-splash-pad-open-to-public/ #3 – From THE REAL WV – In May 2023, a commotion behind the Barnwood Living store in White Sulphur Springs turned out to be Mark Bowe, rapping a country song over the purr of a crane while personally manning the controls and dropping logs onto a frame. Bowe is the host of the hit TV show “Barnwood Builders,” where he and his crew preserve and repurpose historic log homes. His latest project is the perfect combination of old materials used in a new style–log cabin tiny homes. “We get at least 500 people from out of state that come to the store every month,” Bowe says. Now those visitors can stay in a cabin Bowe and the builders constructed just for them. Over the last year and a half, he and the crew have been hard at work building tiny cabins behind their store. The Spa City Cottage and the Big Draft Timberframe are available for rent via Airbnb. And the Dry Creek Cabin will be ready for visitors this fall. The cabins are equipped with modern amenities and make a great place to stay for visitors exploring the Greenbrier Valley. Check out wvtourism.com to learn more about the region. This time last year, PIMCO Portfolio Manager Adam Bowe told Livewire that there was a 50/50 chance that Australia would slip into recession. March GDP figures show that the economy grew at just 0.1 per cent, the slowest rate since December 2020. Today, Bowe says interest rates are sufficiently restrictive, and the chance of recession remains a ‘line ball'. In this episode of The Rules of Investing, Bowe explains why interest rates in Australia don't need to go higher, why house prices have been immune to interest rate increases and where he is finding the best income opportunities right now.

Although she finished first in her qualifying race, US speedskater Brittany Bowe gave up her chance to compete in the 500-meter event at the 2022 Winter Olympics to teammate Erin Jackson. Jackson had an unfortunate slip in the race that left her just one place away from making the team. What motivated Bowe to relinquish the spot she’d earned? Friendship. Having trained together for years, Bowe believed Jackson deserved a spot on the team. Bowe was right. Jackson become the first US Black woman to win a Winter Olympic gold medal in an individual event. In the deep friendship between Jonathan and David in the Old Testament, there was also sacrifice. Jonathan was King Saul’s oldest son and heir to Israel’s throne. When God rejected Saul and choose David to be king (1 Samuel 16:1–12), Jonathan could have continued to claim a right for the throne. Instead, he sacrificed his own personal interests for David. Jonathan even devised a plan to protect David by sending him away when David’s life was threatened (20:18–23). As they parted, Jonathan encouraged David saying, “Go in peace, for we have sworn friendship with each other in the name of the Lord” (20:42). Jonathan and David’s friendship was characterized by love even at great personal cost.
