What is the cost of being on social media? What are you giving away? What are you gaining? If FOMO is the issue, then shouldn't we consider what it is we're really missing out on? If every ‘yes' to one thing is a ‘no' to another, then what could you say ‘yes' to if you chose to say ‘no' to social media? Have you felt burdened by social media? Have you considered leaving or taking a break from social media, but worry about what you'd miss out on? Are there reasons you believe you ‘have to' or ‘need to' be on social media? In this episode Sasha chats with Sandy Cooper, a Bible study teacher, podcast host of The Balanced MomCast, writer, and professionally certified home chef that helps frazzled women find peace. Sandy shares about her life from motherhood, to the books she has written, and the role social media has played in her life. She talks about the way many of us use social media, for hours each day, which by the way, is one of the red flag signs of a social media addiction. Sandy shares how fear kept her on social media in a number of different ways and how it began 'sucking the life out of her' before she committed to go against the grain and take a one year social media hiatus. God showed her how social media was a weight that she was carrying that was preventing her from effectively running the race that God had called her to. It seems like an easy way to market your business because it's free and feels like everyone is on there. But what if you really don't like using social media in the first place? What if you just want to create amazing content to serve the people God is calling you to serve instead of creating social media content that might get seen by a fraction of them?  Is social media required to have success as an entrepreneur though? Have you ever tracked how much time you spend on a social media platform and/or how you feel afterwards? Have you ever got sucked into a continual scrolling? Perhaps you read a post or comment that was very divisive and made you angry. Now you can't even talk to that person.   Social media like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter have had a dramatic impact on our society, and many are rethinking how much time they want to spend on their devices. Especially now as we head into elections and the holiday season.    I want to help you thrive emotionally, relationally, spiritually and physically. In doing so, we need to be intentional and address anything that might have a control over us. (John 10:10, 3John1:2, Romans 12:2)   In today's episode, my new friend and guest, Sandy Cooper, discuss the reasons why she needed to take a break from social media, and how she now helps others reclaim their freedom and life by reducing the amount of time on various platforms.   Sandy is the podcast host of The Balanced MomCast, a blogger at thescooponbalance.com, and author. Today she discusses how after many years of building a successful business on social media platforms, she one day realized how controlled she was by her phone, and her mental and emotional health were negatively impacted.  Sandy helps other overwhelmed moms and entrepreneurs take short and longer breaks from social media to reclaim their time and life.  Social media is intentionally designed to be like a drug, to get you hooked by giving your brain a dopamine fix. While we might think we are connected to more people around the world, research is showing that people feel more disconnected, isolated, anxious and depressed.    Beginning November 1st, she is offering a 7-Day Challenge to help moms break the addictive cycle of social media, reassess their relationship with it, and reclaim the time they lose to these platforms.  Invest your time into meaningful, life-giving, and eternally relevant activities Rediscover a full and free life away from social media Take control of your mental and emotional health Feel focused and calm  Guard your heart against unfiltered and algorithm-driven content  Get all of the details and take a quiz to see how much of your life has been impacted here: https://thescooponbalance.com **** Have you got my FREE 1 Hour Training yet?  I want to help you discover God's Best for you, receive Truth, and hear His voice with confidence. How to Spend Less at Christmas

The Balanced MomCast with Sandy Cooper

Last week some of you participated in a listener survey where I asked what brings you the most anxiety during the holidays. Your number one answer? Finances. You said you had too many gifts to buy and not enough money. You said you didn't know how to cut back or where to start. So, this week that's precisely what we will discuss: Creative ways to spend less this Christmas. The biggest takeaway from this episode: Balance is the art of knowing when to say no and when to say yes. When you say no to something you're actually saying yes to something else. By saying no to overspending this Christmas, you will be saying yes to less anxiety. By saying no to going into debt for Christmas gifts in 2019, you are saying yes to an anxiety-reduced 2020. By saying “no” to the trap of materialism and consumerism—to things that the Bible warns are temporary and fleeting and meaningless, you are saying yes to freedom and things that are eternal and meaningful. NEVER GO INTO DEBT TO BUY CHRISTMAS GIFTS. THAT BLESSES ABSOLUTELY NO ONE! The best thing you can do is start setting aside money now for Christmas 2020. 3 Ways to Spend Less: You can make extra money.  For a frazzled mom, the best way to make money is to sell some stuff (win-win, because you will also have a decluttered space!) You can reallocate the money you have. Look for things to cancel, suspend, cut back on, even temporarily. Don't send Christmas cards. Use old gift cards you have on hand.  You can reduce the amount you spend Spend less per gift Buy fewer gifts for kids Buy for fewer people Look for free ways to enjoy the holiday Take a year off--explain to your friends and family that you don't have the money this year. They will understand.  For a giant list of gift ideas--all under $25, visit The Scoop on Balance. Today we're sorting through your obligations and expectations for the holidays so we can get something off your plate. Today I'm helping you create your holiday to-don't list. Step One: Decide what your most cherished traditions are. If you aren't sure, ask your family. They may surprise you! Step Two: Put those few things on your calendar and guard them with your life. Step Three: Consider every other obligation and expectation on it's life-giving or life-sucking value.  Step Four: If it sucks the life out of you, put it on your To-Don't List. *** Take a screenshot of The Balanced MomCast logo and share it on Facebook and Instagram! My kids are just like your kids. If I give them the choice between cookies and fruit for dessert, they will choose the cookies. If I give them the choice between fries or broccoli as a side, they will chose the fries. That's why I am deliberate and strategic to train them to choose healthy food when faced with a choice.  Today, I'm offering, 22 strategies I use in my own home to teach my kids to love healthy food. Mix and match as you see fit.   Do it yourself: The best way to teach your kids how to choose healthy food is to live by example. Don't keep junk in the house, including soda—if you don't buy it, it won't be there to eat. Period. If your child asks for a snack, tell them they need to eat a fruit or veggie first. If it's close to dinner, serve the fruit or veggie portion of the dinner as the snack. Make dessert something special—not something you do nightly. Take them out for ice cream after their baseball game. Bake cookies on Saturday. Go out for a shake when grade cards come out. Let them choose between soda or dessert at a restaurant, but not both. Pack school lunches most days. When offering new healthy food, tell them “You don't need to taste it, just let it sit on your plate.”   Offer money to taste a new food. Yep. I have paid my kids a quarter or a dollar to taste something and I'm not ashamed. Serve a variety of fruits and vegetables at every meal and make them pick two. Buy the healthy food they like. Never say no to seconds on veggies. Don't push meat and dairy. Teach your kids to read labels.   Teach them to be wise about advertising. Serve smoothies.  Let them order off the adult menu.  Don't let the order the fries as their side—make them get a fruit or veggie instead. Make it your goal in life to get your kid to love salad. Serve water with every meal.   Reserve special junk food for birthdays, vacations, and holidays. Make your home a healthy food zone.   Connect the dots for them for how healthy food and junk affects how they feel.   The Balanced MomCast made the iTunes New and Noteworthy list in two categories!!!
