Delight Your Marriage | Relationship Advice, Christianity, & Sexual Intimacy
Hi friend, This one's pretty personal. After 10 years of podcasting, coaching, and quietly building Delight Your Marriage—without social media—we're finally stepping into a new chapter. (I'm still kind of holding my breath saying that.) In today's episode, I share the real behind-the-scenes story of: Why I stayed off social all these years (and it's deeper than just “not liking it”) The Gideon moment that confirmed my calling to do this in secret Publishing my book under a pseudonym—and the fears behind that decision How God still grew DYM to a team of 10, hundreds of clients, and millions of downloads And most importantly—why we're trying social media now. But! Before you go hunting down our Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube… wait just one more day. Tomorrow (Friday), we'll be sending you all the links (if you're on our email list -- if not go to delightyourmarriage.com) so you can follow, share, and help us get this message out to the world. For now—would you take a moment to listen to this episode? I poured my heart into it. With love and (slightly trembling?) excitement, Belah P.S. I won't be reading the comments (my team will!)—but if something resonates, share it with a friend. That's how this whole thing started in the first place. :)

It's been almost one year since I last recorded a podcast and since I stopped posting on social media. This wasn't necessarily intentional by the way. My plan was to take the summer off from everything so I could focus a little more on other things for a while. But when September rolled around I found myself not wanting to come back to podcasting and social media, which was strange. I'd always been rearing to get back to work as soon as the kids went back to school. But this year was different. This was the first summer I didn't post at all and I never once checked Facebook. It was like I got to go back in time, back before cell phones and social media. And I found it to be so incredibly refreshing. No more constantly worrying about taking pictures and videos for my next post. In fact, I didn't really take any pictures and videos this year besides our vacation and holidays. It was so unlike me. I got to see what it was like to just live my life, going with the flow, having no big plans. Just simple and present. Something I haven't felt in well over a decade. Don't get me wrong, I've loved creating videos and podcasts over the years, but I just needed a nice long break, kinda like a sabbatical I guess.

Brian Mathis from the Atlanta, GA law firm of Huff, Powell & Bailey joins the podcast. Brian was my law school classmate and is one of my closest friends. It was an absolute blast for me to have him on the podcast and there is something for anyone to take away from our conversation. After all these years, he is still teaching me things and inspiring me to be better. We reminisce on the old days, tell some stories, talk about what we learned in law school and our advice for future students. Brian and his firm specialize in the defense of doctors and hospital in medical malpractice cases. Over the last 2 decades, Brian has been involved in some of the most high stakes medical malpractice cases in the state. He shares his approaches to defending doctors/hospitals and the challenges posed. We talk about the use of experts, the development of themes and why these cases generally do not settle out of court. Trials in his cases last multiple weeks and Brian explains how he physically and mentally approaches the challenge. For your Plaintiffs lawyers out there, Brian tells you what methods work, and what doesn't work, in developing cases to win settlements and at trial. Brian also talks about his simple approach to marketing and getting cases – just be cool. Brian is one of the hardest workers I know and we talk about what it takes in life to “Be Great”. We talk about doing what needs to be done to be successful and teaching our children those same skills and traits. His philosophy applies to all facets of his life to include his job, raising a family and exercising. Brian shuts out the outside noise and is the rare person in 2023 who has no social media. You know we have to talk some sports - Brian is a huge Falcons fan. A lifelong season ticket holder and a ball boy while in High School, we discuss some of his favorite Falcons experiences and the ups and downs of his fandom. We look at the current squad and the steps we would take as GM to bring the Falcons back into contention. Specifically, we look at the 2023 draft and the choice of Robinson over Carter. Brian is bullish on the upcoming season and the core players on the team. Enjoy this great episode and you can reach Brian at Bmathis@huffpowellbailey.com. As always this episode is powered by the J. Stein Law Firm – a personal injury law firm in Atlanta, Ga – www.jsteinlawfirm.com.
