Over time, responsibilities pile up, communication fades, and connection slips away—but it doesn't have to stay that way. They break down the real reasons relationships drift apart and share practical steps to bring back intimacy, trust, and playfulness in your marriage. They discuss the small, everyday moments that determine whether you grow closer or further apart. They also explain why thriving as individuals leads to a stronger, more passionate marriage. This isn't just theory—it's real, actionable advice that works. Whether you're trying to reignite passion or simply strengthen your bond, this conversation will give you the tools to lead in your marriage with confidence. Like most men, you've felt alone for a long time – even when surrounded by people. No matter how much money you make, how healthy your body is, whether you're single or have the family of your dreams, your mental stress and (secret) inner struggles persist. You endlessly search for what you never seem to find: FREEDOM. Freedom from what? Stress. Stagnation. Self-doubt. Self-sabotage. Feeling isolated and alone. A consistently nourishing, thriving intimacy may elude you. You may feel disconnected from your deepest purpose. Even when you get your way, it never fully satisfies. According to Bryan and his extensive work in this field, men tend to be ruled over by five primary distractions: work, ass, addiction (alcohol/drugs/porn, etc.), sports, and war/politics. Thus, our joy and vitality are inevitably drained by the daily whims of external forces we have little control. We fail to be present for what really matters and don't know how to use our power in ways we otherwise would have real agency. So even when we outwardly succeed, we feel internally dissatisfied and endlessly disoriented. It's Wednesday again and we're so glad that you're here! It was a blessing to be joined by Sam Washington in the studio. We feel like today's conversation is a perfect way to wrap up the summer. Sam touches on a lot of things that have been covered in stories this summer and also gives us some challenging things to think about as we head into the fall. Sam has an incredible heart and passion for serving the Lord and His people but that wasn't always his story. Sam was raised in a small town in Washington state. His parents had somewhat of a Catholic background and his mom would take them to church as children. As Sam grew older, he felt like being a part of a church wasn't really his thing, but he still felt like he had a set of values he wanted to live by. After high school he was really into the motor sports world and would spend his weekends snowmobiling and partying with friends. This eventually started to feel pointless, and Sam was left wondering if there was more to life. On 4th of July weekend one summer, he reconnected with an old high school acquaintance named Trisha. Trisha asked Sam an important question - who is Jesus to you? This changed everything for Sam; he understood the Gospel and what it meant for his life. Sam and Trisha married the following summer and began life together flipping houses and working in management at Costco. However, this isn't where their story ends. God had so much ahead for Sam and Trisha. Through being connected at a church community in Texas they began to learn what it looks like to truly live for God each day. Not just checking boxes or being comfortable lukewarm but being in a thriving relationship with God and His people. The moment of salvation is incredibly transformative, but the Christian life doesn't stop there. That is only the beginning. Sam's story will certainly challenge you so get ready! It is easy to get bogged down in your own unhappiness and try to direct it onto someone else in your life, particularly a partner. Rob and Kim discuss John Gottman's research on marriage, regarding this behavior and how it tends to create tension and ultimately can take the form of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse - Criticism, Contempt, Defensiveness, and Stonewalling. We need to be aware of these pitfalls and work on overcoming them within ourselves. After all, we cannot change anybody else but all of us have control over ourselves. Instead of expending energy on tinkering with fixing our spouse, think about developing self-awareness and making improvements from within that can ultimately benefit both yourself and any close connections we have with others. Almost everyone now talks about how critical Magnesium is for us, Dr. Hyman, Andrew Huberman, all of the health industry authorities, and doctors. There is a long list of symptoms and diseases that can be eased or even treated with magnesium. In fact, way back magnesium was a critical element. Doctors used magnesium for all kinds of conditions, from arrhythmia to constipation, to preeclampsia, and even seizures. For some reason, now doctors use it as a last resort and put patients on high doses of Magnesium if they are at risk of premature labor, seizure, and other very serious conditions. It's really essential to our health and our wellbeing. This is a huge problem because magnesium deficiency can increase your risk of all diseases and keep you from performing optimally. We shouldn't wait until we are Magnesium deficient! And even more critically, there's not just one type of magnesium. There are seven different types that we need in order to ensure both our health and vitality remain strong. Fortunately, BiOptimizers has the solution.
