For our last episode of the year we're taking a look at Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas, a direct-to-video "midquel" that dares to ask the question "What if the Beast just continued being a huge jerk to Belle?". This is the third direct-to-video offering put out by Disney in the 90s and it definitely shines as an example of what people dislike about the Disney sequels. So join us as we discuss the problem with midquels, Kristi's love of the original film, and the saving grace of this movie: Tim Curry's melodious voice.

In a first for Straight Out Of Home Video - they are revisiting one of the movies! This week, Candace and Arezou gush about Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas, and how they feel it's stood the test of time. From being the only sequel represented in the parks, to how much it meant to them as kids and as adults, to the romance tropes shown in the movie (and Arezou's liberal use of a certain term), they were only too happy to revisit one of the earliest Disney sequels. Happy Monday, Christmas fanatics! This week, the elves journey back to the wonderful world of Disney to cover the 1997, straight to VHS, animated midquel, "Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas"! Does the midquel conceit work better than Disney's other straight to home video sequels they did in the '90s, or does it ruin the charm of the original 1991 masterpiece? And while Anthony has a lot of nostalgia wrapped up in this one, Thom and Julia don't, so how does it play for them? Either way, one thing's for sure, there's a lot of love for this film amongst the listeners of "Tis the Podcast" - will the elves, once again, disappoint them with their ultimate rating? Find out in this fun episode where, regardless of where the elves fall on this movie, their love for Disney is evident! Enjoy, y’all! "Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas" (1997) // Dir. Andy Knight In this edition, the holiday vibes continue as we transition in Christmas Movie Season. It's a time of bad plots and passable storytelling for the greater good of yuletide joy. Keep in mind, everything thing that happens this movie is official Disney canon. Weird, right?

We are getting into the Christmas spirit with this Dark yet hopeful Disney Animated...Midquel(?): "Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas." When we last left Belle, the curse over the castle of a Beast, who turned out to be a prince, was lifted and she was able to live happily ever after with the reformed monarch along with all her new friends. Well, as a follow-up to that beloved Disney classic, they decided to set the story in the midst of Belle's IMPRISONMENT at the cursed castle, shortly following her encounter with a pack of wild wolves. Oh, and it's Christmas-time. As Belle tries to spread hope and joy during the festive season, The Beast is desperate to avoid all Christmas traditions as it only serves to remind him of the past, when the curse was first bestowed upon the castle and all its inhabitants. We are also treated to a new cast of characters including a imposing villainous Pipe Organ played by Tim Curry. It may very well be one of the darkest Christmas movies ever conceived by Disney, but that doesn't mean we don't enjoy it. Hope you do as well! Candace and Bri along with special guest Patty from The No Guilt Disney Podcast took on watching the magical midquel of Beauty and The Beasts Enchanted Christmas. For the third time in 2017 we're heading to France to visit some of Disney's most beloved characters. That's right, even in the direct-to-video sequel, the gang's all here. Belle! Lumiere! Cogsworth! Babette (for like two seconds)! Beast! A Jewish Axe! It's Christmas time at the cursed castle, so its time to dust off the estate's help that are trapped in storage AS WELL as in the form of an inanimate object and spread some holiday cheer. Because if anything will help your beastly master seduce the human woman he's holding prisoner, it's letting her celebrate Christmas. Add in family favourites Tim Curry and Paul Reubens, subtract a hefty chunk from the animation budget, and you've got BEAUTY AND THE BEAST: THE ENCHANTED CHRISTMAS.
It is with both excitement and pain that we present you with this, our magnum opus. We were doomed to peak so early. What started as a way to coincide our podcast release with the release of the new Beauty and the Beast live action movie became so much more. It became six hours of our lives. Plus time for editing. There's a lot of podcast in this one. Pace yourself. Important questions: What various psychological tortures has the beast fallen prey to? Why is Gaston the way he is? Is the enchantress supposed to be good? Special bonus question: How far can Tim Curry carry a movie on his own? Keep an ear out for Tony realizing with horror that Lefou is a person while Andy discovers the finer points of the enchantress's cruelty. We're really starting to hate Fake Christmas here at the CLP. We take our first look at a Disney sequel.
