Please follow 'The Trial of Lucy Letby' wherever you get your podcasts and give us a follow. In this episode Caroline and Liz are back at Manchester Crown Court as neo-natal nurse Lucy Letby returns to the dock. This time she is facing one charge – the attempted murder of a very premature baby girl, known as Baby K. Today, as the trial got underway, the jury were told she was caught “virtually red handed” by a consultant as she tried to dislodge the breathing tube of Baby K in an attempt to kill her. She then allegedly dislodged the tube twice more to cover her tracks.  The jury were told Lucy Letby is a convicted baby killer and her previous convictions were relevant to the charge she now faces. She denies the charge and her defence barrister told the court Baby K was so premature that she was clinically fragile. Both the prosecution and the defence barristers told the jury they ultimately had to decide if they believed the consultant who claims he caught her in the act. Follow the trial's evidence just as the jury do, with twice-weekly reports from Daily Mail northern correspondent Liz Hull and broadcast journalist Caroline Cheetham. In this podcast, they bring you far more detail about what the jury heard, examine key moments of the trial, and conduct exclusive interviews with investigative detectives, victims, and experts. [School of Movies 2022] For years this seminal, game-changing Silver Age comic book has seemed damned-near impossible to adapt into a movie, with all four efforts failing resoundingly at getting major audiences to care about Marvel's First Family. And yet Pixar did it twice with the serial numbers filed off and the clear vision of Brad Bird. So Sharon and I look back on those movies, two that we've covered in the past just based on their own merits (2005 and 2007) and two others whose productions deserve delving into (1994 and 2015), and we compare them against the comic itself from various periods (Lee & Kirby, Byrne, Simonson, Morrison, Waid, Straczynski, Hickman) and not only speculate on how they could fit into the MCU, but celebrate their characters (along with Doom, Silver Surfer and Galactus) in a way that film has been unable to, at least to date. This episode took a hell of a lot of research and is richly prepared for all of you. Our shortlist of recommended reading is as follows... 1. FF #48-52 ('The Coming of Galactus', 'This Man, This Monster', The Black Panther debuts) 2. FF #262 ('The Trial of Reed Richards') 3. FF #334-346 ('Into the Time Stream') 4. 1234 (Limited 4-issue series) 5. Vol. 3 #67 - Vol. 1 502 (4-issue 'Unthinkable' arc) 6. #538-543 ('Civil War') 7. #570-572 ('Solve Everything')

Be warned! By definition, every single book discussed in this episode of the Book XChange podcast is going to be utterly spoiled... Jude and John discuss some of their favorite all-time endings in literature, and why we feel they've made such a lasting imprint on our memories. There are many ways to end a story: wicked twists in the plot, notes of ambiguity and mystery, group hugs of happiness, or shocking, tragic losses. But for most readers there are those books that linger in the mind because of the way the author "stuck the landing," bringing all of the elements of his/her tale together in a uniquely satisfying - or sometimes, maddenly unsatisfying, but memorable! - close. We came up with a long list of interesting choices for this discussion, so much so that it could easily spawn a second episode to continue the theme in the future. What book endings linger in your mind? Now you can email the show at bookxchangetwins@gmail.com to share your recommendations, observations, criticisms, or whatever you'd like! Thanks as always for listening. -J & J BOOKS DISCUSSED/MENTIONED/RECOMMENDED IN THIS EPISODE What John is currently reading/plans to read next: 'Silence and Beauty: Hidden Faith Born of Suffering,' Makoto Fujimura - 'Avoid the Day: A New Nonfiction in Two Movements,' Jay Kirk - What Jude is currently reading/plans to read next: 'The Heart of the Matter,' Graham Greene - 'The New Worlds of Robert A. Heinlein: Expanded Universe,' Robert A. Heinlein - Books/Writers discussed in this episode: John 21: 20-25 - Matthew 28:18-20 - 'The Trial,' Franz Kafka - 'Mariette in Ecstasy,' Ron Hansen - 'Silence,' Shusaku Endo - 'The Grapes of Wrath,' John Steinbeck - 'The Lord of the Rings trilogy ("The Scouring of the Shire,"), J. R. R. Tolkien - 'The Road,' Cormac McCarthy - Planned next episode of the Book XChange podcast: "Animal Kingdom" - books featuring or about animals
