The Valley Today
Top of Virginia Regional Chamber: The CLP effect

The Valley Today

Play Episode Listen Later May 28, 2025 26:46

In this episode, we take an in-depth look at the Community Leadership Program (CLP) organized by the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber. This program is a testament to the power of community engagement and leadership development. Hosted by Janet Michael, this segment of the Valley Today brings to light the experiences of the current CLP class, soon to be graduates, and the invaluable lessons they've learned along the way. Janet is joined by Sabra Veach, the Director of Programs and Services at the Chamber, and Kearie Sites, the operations manager at Cardinal Technology Solutions and a member of the current CLP class. The conversation kicks off with Janet introducing Sabra and Kearie, noting Sabra's vital role in coordinating programs like the Community Leadership Program, and Kearie's enthusiastic participation in the program. Kearie jokes about her unofficial title as the CLP spokesperson due to her persistent curiosity and active involvement. Sabra explains that the CLP is designed to immerse participants in various community sectors, from local government to healthcare, education, and beyond. Each month, participants dive deep into a particular topic, engaging with top leaders like school superintendents, police chiefs, and CEOs. These sessions are not just lectures but interactive discussions that encourage participants to ask questions and gain firsthand insights into the community's operations. Kearie reflects on the transformative experience the program has provided. One particularly impactful session for her was the 'Simulated Society' day, a thought-provoking exercise that left a lasting impression. She keeps a keepsake from that day—a yellow bandana—wrapped around her car's gear shift as a reminder of the lessons learned. The program's structure, one Friday a month, allows participants to balance their professional responsibilities while fully engaging with the community. Sabra emphasizes the commitment required, noting that missing more than two sessions disqualifies a participant from graduating. The CLP isn't just about professional growth; it's also about personal development and fostering a sense of community. Kearie shares how the program helped her, a newcomer to the area, feel more connected and involved. She now sees familiar faces at networking events and has formed lasting relationships with her classmates. Janet and Kearie highlight how the program opens doors to knowledge and networking opportunities that participants might not have otherwise. From understanding local agriculture's economic importance to experiencing the weight of a firefighter's gear, the program offers a comprehensive view of the community. Sabra calls on alumni like Kearie to help promote the CLP to prospective participants. Applications for the next class open in June, with the program set to begin in September. Interested individuals can learn more and apply through the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber's website: https://www.regionalchamber.biz/leadership-academy/community-leadership-program/  Whether you're new to Winchester or a lifelong resident, the Community Leadership Program provides an unparalleled opportunity to become a more informed, engaged, and effective community leader.

This week I had the pleasure of speaking with Lioba Oerter, Director of Expert Services, 3E Expert Service Processing Centre (ESPC), and Karin F. Baron, Director of Hazard Communication and International Registration Strategy at B&C and our consulting affiliate, The Acta Group, about the significant changes to product classification, labeling, and packaging (CLP) in the European Union (EU). Lioba and I shared a podium recently and found we also have a shared belief that these forthcoming CLP changes will have a profound commercial impact on product classification, labeling, and packaging globally and that with everything going on in the world these days, this impact may be a bit underappreciated. Karin and I spoke about these matters last year, and I welcomed an opportunity to consider them again with Karin and Lioba in light of the new CLP developments as of December 2024. Karin, Lioba, and I discuss the CLP changes, including those recently made, why they came to be, what they mean for commercial operations, and conclude with some tips on staying ahead of this coming storm. Our latest podcast is dedicated to the importance of keeping a raw materials portfolio up to date. Manufacturers and suppliers of cosmetic raw materials must comply with all regulatory requirements - including cosmetic regulation of EU, CLP and IFRA - as long as those raw materials are used and available on the market. However, while particular attention is often paid to new raw materials entering a portfolio, existing raw materials may be neglected. Manufacturers and suppliers need a proactive approach—‍not just towards compliance of new materials, but towards updating existing materials in their portfolio. Follow us on- Intertek's Assurance In Action || Twitter || LinkedIn.

In the 186th episode of The Main Street Electrical Podcast, Jenn & Dave close the year with what is now a tradition -- with the Candlelight Processional!  In year's past, both Jenn and Dave have taken turns reading the narration, pulled directly from the long standing classic annual production at Epcot, with the music from the show intersparsed, but this year, they've asked a few Friends of the Show to pitch in and lend their voices to the narrations. Matt & Susie from The ImagineEars Podcast... Catron, Ryan, and Chris from IAmGeek... Derek Frank from Living with the Landspeeder... Melissa Reagan from The Food for Thoughtcast... and show faves Quasi Producer Heather and #KylaKylaKyla all assist, with Dave and Jenn of course.  What you'll hear in this show is nearly the exact show you'd hear if you attended the CLP over the holiday season at Epcot. So we hope you enjoy our presentation of The Candlelight Processional. All rights of music go to the writers, composers, and producers of the musical works themselves, as well as the script of the narration to those who adapted it for the show.

To what extent do genetics play a role in our ability to live a long healthy life? It is one of the many questions that doctors at the Swiss medical spa, Clinique La Prairie (CLP), consider when assessing someone's state of health and potential longevity.  The clinic adopts a holistic approach to wellbeing - balancing the impact of inherited predispositions to certain conditions, the role of epigenetics - the environment we live in - along with lifestyle factors that also have a powerful impact.
