First up, hear Lola Bessis, WLRN's newest member greet the listener introducing herself and her professor, Victoria Brown, who later on in the program will talk about advances and setbacks in women's health. Next, open your ears for WLRN's World News segment delivered by Mary O'Neill in which she highlights news from Iran and its death sentences for female activists, the Purple Saturdays movement in Afghanistan and news from the Gambia where Parliament just voted to maintain the national ban on female genital mutilation. After the news, hear Sylvia Bagge's "Release the Medicine", a song about a woman's healing journey. Thistle met Sylvia in the year 2002 in the woods of Michigan's Upper Peninsula at the National Rainbow Gathering. Her words and music are true medicine for the heart and soul. Then it's on to Lola's interview with Victoria Brown in which they discuss Ms. Brown's research before diving into the nitty gritty of the state of the medical establishment and women's health. Stay tuned 'til the very end for Sekhmet's sobering commentary on the misogyny inherent within the medical system that underserves, ignores and does actual harm to women and girls. She concludes her piece with encouragement for us to take charge of our personal health and to know that doing so is an act of radical feminism. As always, thank you for tuning in to WLRN's monthly handcrafted podcast put together by a team of volunteers who care deeply about the lives and matters of women. Intimacy and your Very Best Self with Victoria Brown In this week's episode, I'm sharing with you an interview by Victoria Brown on her Very Best Self podcast. She is New York City based Senior SoulCycle instructor, Under Armour Athlete, Certified Life Coach, and Founder of the Very Best Self Squad (VBSquad). Her fitness and mindfulness career began in Los Angeles, spread to Washington, DC, and now takes root in New York City. Her philosophy regarding movement stems from a belief that working out is more mental than it is physical. That we can use what we are fighting for within our lives and allow it to become fuel for moving our bodies through challenges and ultimately feel better mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally. She interviewed me on various topics around intimacy, sex, and relationships. Topics including: • It's better to come to the table with what you know to do instead of letting other people make the first step.• What's the difference between sex and intimacy, and why is sex still a taboo topic?• How do you meet your partner when you want the same thing?• What are your thoughts and beliefs about sexual self?• Sexual Buffet of options.• What if your partner is never getting the job done? Should you break up?• Gen X is not as sexually active as the previous generation, and what will happen in our society and our culture due to that.• How do you get to the peak of sex without outside stimulation?• What is mind-body connection?• The importance of meditation. How much of our lives have we just simply accepted as our own personal truth? We think to ourselves "That's just the way I am" or "That's the way it's always been" What if just because things have always been a certain way, doesn't actually mean that things always have to continue to be a certain way. In this solo episode, Victoria shares an interesting perspective on how to rewrite your story and perhaps step into a narrative that supports your higher being and next level. She breaks down barriers and challenges you to think about why you do what you do and how you might do things differently. Victoria also shares an exercise to help you uncover your personal story, while sharing a vulnerable truth of her own. This episode is not truly a podcast. It is an example of how we can get inspiration and motivation in the most unexpected places and times. Like many people during this beginning time of Covid-19, I had to reinvent my business to make money while “Sheltering in Place.” Also, like many people, much of my “get up and go; got up and went.” In other words, I lost most of my motivation and one of the first things to go was doing this Podcast. This eighty-fifth (85th) episode welcomes an all Homecoming cast to the podcast as Patrick Eaton stops by to talk about everything homecoming leading up to the crowning of the queen on Thursday, September 19 at Tiger Stadium. Eaton announces that our Alumni Hall of Fame inductee is Blues legend Sam Mosley and the three Sports Hall of Fame inductees include Anthony Gamble, William "Billy" Southward and Shirley Hall White. Eaton also talks about the plans for the football game the following week and all the help he gets from his staff in the Development Foundation and Alumni Association plus from GameDay sponsors that make his job easier. In the second half of the podcast, Victoria Brown talks about her reaction to being elected Homecoming Queen and how the news was relayed to her. In addition, Brown talks about her experience at Northeast and how technology has played a role in her success. Between the segments, Will Kollmeyer gives a rundown of all the events that are happening on campus before the beginning of the school year and some major dates that people need to know about when they return to campus. Don't forget that we have also started a YouTube account, http://bit.ly/NEMCCTigerTalkYouTube , and we will be putting all our podcasts on our YouTube channel as time allows. Future guests on the podcast, do not fret; this is an audio-only YouTube account with the video produced by the Headliner App. As always, if you have any podcast ideas or want to be a guest on the podcast, drop us a line and we can get you set up to be on an upcoming episode of TigerTalk.
