Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes. The 2024 Super Bowl was the most-watched program in American television history with 123.4 million viewers. The House of Mouse let loose several bits of exciting news after their quarterly earnings call on February 7. Animation fans were surprised with the release of a teaser trailer for Moana 2, which will be in theaters in November. Bob Iger also announced that Zootopia 2 will release in 2025 and Frozen 3 and Toy Story 5 will drop in 2026. Fans of the recent Percy Jackson and the Olympians series officially received the news that season two has been greenlit. Disney is investing $1.5 billion Epic Games - known best for Fortnite. CEO Bob Iger explained that the goal is to create a gaming universe that features beloved characters from Disney's hottest franchises such as Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and more. And last - but never least - it was announced that Taylor Swift's concert film The Eras Tour will stream exclusively on Disney+ beginning March 15.Last week we discussed the seemingly-rushed new Jurassic World movie, which had announced that its director would be David Leitch. But talks between Universal and Leith fell through and the director is no longer attached to the project. In a surprising move, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences governing board announced a new category that will first be given away in 2026 - Best Achievement in Casting. It's been nearly 25 years since a new category was announced - the last one being Best Animated Feature Film in 2001. A joint statement from the Academy Casting Director Branch governors expressed appreciation for the acknowledgment and recognition for casting directors. Official rules will be announced in April 2025 and films of that year will be the first ones considered for the award. Paramount released the first trailer for its limited series and Sonic the Hedgehog spin-off, Knuckles, starring Idris Elba in the lead voice acting role. The six episode show will debut on Paramount+ on April 26. This March, Marvel Comics will release a prelude comic for the X-Men ‘97 animated show. The first issue features a wraparound cover by Russell Dauterman. The limited series will be four issues long. Celine Song is reuniting with A24 for her second feature film following her Best Picture directorial debut Past Lives. The new film, titled Materialists, is described as a romantic comedy with Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans in early talks to star. Sony is shutting down its Funimation app and moving subscribers over to Crunchyroll, but the move does not include their already purchased content. Seven Star Wars comics will feature variant covers featuring some of the women of the galaxy far, far away for Women's History Month in March. HBO is developing an Aegon's Conquest Game of Thrones series, which will serve as a prequel to House of the Dragon. Mattson Tomlin, who wrote parts of Matt Reeves' The Batman and is co-writing the upcoming sequel, will write the series. Michael Chaves, who has directed previous installments in The Conjuring franchise, including 2021's The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and The Nun II is in negotiations to direct what is being eyed as the fourth and final outing in the franchise currently under the working titled The Conjuring 4. After being saved from a tax break death at Warner Bros., the John Cena and Lana Condor movie, Coyote Vs Acme is officially being shelved forever. Although Warner Brothers did attempt to shop the film to other studios including Netflix, Amazon, and Paramount, their asking price of between $75 and $80 million for the film was too high to attract a buyer. Wicked author Gregory Maguire will release a new prequel titled Elphie: A Wicked Childhood on October 1. Maguire has written eight Oz-inspired books.
The George Lucas sequel trilogy is one I wish we all got to see. It's one I know George wishes that we got to see, as it was the intended ending to his 9 episodic saga. Regardless of what your consensus of the Disney Sequels are, I support you and you have a place here on Star Wars Theory. There is a constant rhetoric that George's sequel trilogy doesn't exist, or that it was exactly as how Disney created it. This is not true. Learn more about your ad choices. Today, I analyze some of my favorite Disney sequels and determine whether or not they beat the originals

Whatever We Want: Celebrating Storytelling! Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Spoiler Review! Ant-Man 3 Reaction! Is Ant-Man 3 good? Should I go see Ant-Man and the Wasp 3? Is it worth it to see the new Ant Man in theaters? SPOILERS! How would you fix Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania? 1 Fix that SAVES Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania! How would you rewrite Ant-Man 3 to fix it? We would cut out the freedom fighters because there were too many characters in our opinion. Paul Rudd (Ant-Man/Scott Lang), Evangeline Lilly (Hope Van Dyne/Wasp), Jonathan Majors (Kang the Conqueror), Michael Douglas (Dr. Hank Pym), Michelle Pfeiffer (Janet Van Dyne), Kathryn Newton (Cassie Lang), Bill Murray (Lord Krylar), Randall Park (Jimmy Woo), and more are all back in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania! Who does Bill Murray play in the MCU? Lord Krylar! Is Ant-Man 3 a good introduction to Phase 5 ofthe MCU? I think so! Ant-Man 3 sets up the next phase of the MCU very well, but as a standalone movie falls flat. We ask the important questions. We give you Behind-The-Scenes trivia and filmmaking insights! We're jumping right back into the straight-to-video sequels with The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, which for some reason is a lot of people's favorite Disney sequel. Does it stand above the world of the straight to video sequels as the one true good one, or is it actually just like all the rest? Let's return once again to Pride Rock.
Dan's Edit: "Wow, I pulled a lot of wrong facts out of my butt in this one. Martin is in his 70s, not his 60s, and Robert Jordan died in 2007, not 2005." Join Dan Selcke (@dan_selcke) and Mia Johnson (@MiaJMedia) for another week of Game of Thrones news, entertainment updates and much more! This week we discuss the onslaught of Star Wars content that will be hitting our screens (and bookshelves?) in the next few years. Is it too much? Or should we accept this extra large helping of entertainment from our friends at Disney/LucasFilms? Also, does George R.R. Martin have a contingency plan for the final book in the Song of Ice and Fire series should he pass away? We know it's in bad taste to even think about, but we've got some ideas of what "could" happen in that grim scenario... Lastly, Disney wants more sequels for some of their hit franchises and we give you a roundup of what we've been watching this past week. Find out all of this and more on Take The Black LIVE!

This week, Cher, Preeti, and Courtney talk about all of those kick-ass trailers that dropped before reminiscing about all of those Disney sequels you forgot existed. Plus, they have some unusual gift recommendations for the holidays.
Welcome Jedi, Wizards, and Snowgies to episode 7 of Sabers and Spells! This episode takes us Into The Unknown with Frozen 2.The phenomenon that is Frozen continues with the return of Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff, and Sven. For us Frozen 2 was never a should they make another one it was always a WHEN are they making another one.The characters of Frozen for many are beloved while yes we admit some of the songs from the original frozen have worn us out. Frozen 2 delivers a powerful soundtrack along with a much more mature story. In this episode, we dive into that story and how it made us feel. We explore why Disney Sequels are not always great but also why this one surprised us.Have you seen Frozen 2? If so we want to hear from you. We both liked the film however, we are interested in if there are people who just did not like it at all.We hope you do the next right thing and enjoy this episode.
It’s a rare sight to see a Disney sequel that gets a wide release, so with Frozen II opening in theaters we decided to discuss our favorite Direct Disney Sequels; this is the second movie directly following the original. John Rocha (@therochasays) and Matt Knost (@mattknost) combed through the plethora of Disney’s movies, excluding the newly acquired Fox titles, and created our lists. It’s a wide range of movies & we can’t wait to see what you chose!
Political subtext is everywhere, even at the movies. The weekend's four big releases—'Maleficent: Mistress of Evil'; 'Jojo Rabbit'; 'The Laundromat'; and 'Zombieland: Double Tap'—all have surprising and occasionally confounding nods to the fractured nature of the United States. Amanda and Sean look closely at each movie and the circumstances that led to their messages (2:00). Then, Sean is joined by 'Zombieland: Double Tap' director Ruben Fleischer to discuss the sequel to his 2009 hit, his work on 'Venom,' and more (53:00). Host: Sean Fennessey and Amanda Dobbins Guest: Ruben Fleischer
