For Episode 64, Andrene and Joel rewatch 1992's “FernGully: The Last Rainforest”. In this magical world, fairies live separate from humans in an Australian rainforest. When human loggers and the evil pollutant force of Hexxus (Tim Curry) threaten the existence of the rainforest, a fairy named Crysta (Samantha Mathis) must rally the other fairies to fight to save their home.
When it came to movies, 90s kids had it GOOD. Disney was firmly in its Renaissance period, churning out beloved blockbuster after beloved blockbuster. Kid stars like Macauley Culkin and Kirsten Dunst were featured in breakout roles, and kid-friendly vets like Robin Williams were given bonkers vehicles with which to let loose. And sports movies! So many sports movies, if you're into that kind of thing. The decade produced dozens of movies that helped to define the Millennial generation, and continue to resonate in pop culture. So join us as the Great Pop Culture Debate determines the Best 90s Kids Film. Movies discussed: Aladdin, FernGully: The Last Rainforest, The Sandlot, Jumanji, Toy Story, Matilda, The Mighty Ducks, Hook, Home Alone, A Goofy Movie, Hocus Pocus, Muppet Christmas Carol, Beauty & the Beast, The Parent Trap, Toy Story 2, The Lion King. Join host Eric Rezsnyak and GPCD panelists Amy Pilott, Trey Radu-Blackburn, and Zack Derby as they discuss 16 of the most iconic children's films of the 1990s. (Spoiler Section Length - 7min 45sec)There are a lot of movies and shows aimed toward children that have a goal, primary or not, of advocating for protecting the natural environment from pollution. But if you're a 90s kid, chances are there's one in particular that comes to mind when the subject is brought up - Ferngully. Many pro-environment, anti-pollution pieces of media have a less-than-stellar reputation, often accused of being overly preachy... does Ferngully fall into that trap? And regardless, is it any good, all these years later? Listen to find out!

Nummer 100, zeg! Let's just say dat wij jullie niét raar gaan bekijken if you also felt 'a special kind of h*rny' wanneer jullie een certain, vies stukje 'sludge' op jullie scherm zagen verschijnen. Enjoy!
Today on Soundtrack Alley, I'll be discussing Ferngully The last Rainforest. I'll talk about some of the trivia and dig deeper into the score by Alan Silvestri. I hope you enjoy the episode!

As that magically number 200 approches us we take a trip to Ferngully the Last Rainforest. How have we not watched this before? Robin Williams and Tim Curry add in Christian slater and a song by Sir Elton John. This one is simply a classic in voices.

The gang learns that trees are good and pollution is bad this week, as they review the kids movie that makes environmentalism fun, FerGnGully: The Last Rainforest (1992). Marking the introduction of Robin Williams into the world of Voice Acting for animation, this hybrid hand-drawn and CG animated movie released the same year as Disney's classic, Aladdin. Likely overshadowed by the awesome might that is Robin Williams' Genie, Jaffar, and the Disney animation machine... FernGully has all but been relegated to 2nd or 3rd tier status for the past 32 years since it's release. Does listener Mackenzie Patreon pick have what it takes to change that narrative? Kevin and Chris are joined by treasured returning guest Miranda to discuss FernGully: The Last Rainforest, a film which Disney executive Jeffrey Katzenberg attempted to pressure Robin Williams out of doing, on the grounds that his turn as the genie in Aladdin (which came out after this movie) would be crowded if he also portrayed the inimitable Batty Koda. Williams refused, however, joining Samantha Mathis, Tim Curry, Jonathan Ward, Grace Zabriskie, Tone Loc, and those daring young troubadours Cheech and Chong to lead an all-star cast. But of course, the vital question: was it any good?
In this episode of Journey to the Blue Sky, Arun and Patricia discuss about the 2013 Blue Sky Studios animated film Epic. Loosely based on the children's book The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs by William Joyce, Epic is about a teenage girl named Mary Katherine who moves in with her father after her mother dies. Her father, a professor who is dedicated to looking for a group of creatures who live in the forest, ignores her and has no urgency to reconnect with her after being estranged from her for years. Mary Katherine starts leaving him behind, but gets caught up with the creatures that her father has been searching for and is shrunken by their queen to project the pod that would determine who the next queen is from the evil mastermind who wishes to turn the forest into decay. When the film premiered in theaters, it made $268 million dollars out of a $93 million dollar budget receiving mixed to positive reviews praising its animation, but saying that the story was derivative from Ferngully: The Last Rainforest and Avatar with its environmental message, plot, and characters. What did Arun and Patricia think of the film? Listen and find out. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/old-school-lane/support

FernGully: The Last Rainforest was intended to inspire children to "Save the rainforest". However, it's mostly remembered for Tim Curry's saucy villain song. Scooby Doo and the gang been taught us, y'all: the monsters are (almost) always human. That's our trope this week on ScaryCrit, with Lauren and Jared taking a look at one of the most harrowing horror/suspense films in recent memory, The Boy Behind the Door (2020). A vicious juxtaposition of violence against innocence, this Crit explores the intersectionality that instigates Bobby and Kevin's precarious situation as they try to get out of it, the film's genius, subversive handling of audience expectation and how absolutely dark this trope can be. Trigger warning: like the film it covers, this episode contains discussion of violence against children. Listening discretion is advised.Rate and review ScaryCrit on Apple Podcasts and Spotify! Comparisons to Avatar aside, FernGully: The Last Rainforest is a film of a lot of firsts. It wasn't just one of the first animated features to combine traditional and computer animation; it was also one of the first to be produced with remote artists, Robin Williams' first animated role (no, not the Genie!), and the first movie to be screened at the UN General Assembly. It's also got itself a spot in the Guinness World Records, too!Portions of its profits were donated to Greenpeace, the Rainforest Foundation Fund, and the Sierra Club, as well as a special fund benefiting environmental projects worldwide that was administered by the Smithsonian Institution. This was a movie that fully believed in its mission to help save the environment, and it all started with a mother's bedtime stories to her children in Byron Bay, Australia... Tonight we watched Ferngully, the animated classic that taught us all about SAVING THE RAINFORESTS. Whatever happpened to the rainforests, guys? Are they okay? We fail to heed Dr. P. Theodore Warning, Esquire and head back to Australia this week. Hexxus (Tim Curry) is loose, thanks to human destruction aided by young Zak Young (Jonathan Ward). Crysta (Samantha Mathis) and Pips (Christian Slater) have to stop them with the help of the Beetle Boys (Cheech and Chong) and Batty Koda (Robin Williams). Join Andrew and Brandon as they travel back to April 1992, but first they try some fresh Szechaun Sauce from McDonald's!! While looking back at the month Andrew mistakes Nick News with Linda Ellerbee for Vital Information with Lori Beth Ginsberg. After the break they boys argue over semantics about FernGully. After Brandon takes a quick bathroom break, they talk about the Clear Craze and Crystal Pepsi. Finally they end by talking about how Andrew loves Bluey and hates Barney.
