For they may say, ‘The LORD has not appeared to you.' ” And the LORD asked him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied. “Throw it on the ground,” said the LORD. So Moses threw it on the ground, and it became a snake, and he ran from it. “Stretch out your hand and grab it by the tail,” the LORD said to Moses, who reached out his hand and caught the snake, and it turned back into a staff in his hand. “This is so that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.” Romans 5:5 – “And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” Romans 8:28 – “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Anthony Evans joins the conversation this week to talk all things Going Beyond and growing up in a ministry family, which includes his father, Dr. Tony Evans, and sister Priscilla Shirer. Anthony leads worship and Priscilla teaches at Going Beyond events, and Anthony share how special that sibling relationship is to him. He also tells us some fun behind-the-scenes stories of working in the music industry, such as being "The Beast" in Beauty and the Beast at the Hollywood Bowl and an unexpected encounter with James Corden at a nail salon. RESOURCES: Going Beyond Simulcast James Corden video MARKED is a podcast from Lifeway Women: https://women.lifeway.com/blog/podcasts/. Hosted by Kelly King and Elizabeth Hyndman. RECOMMENDED: Listen to an interview with Anthony's sister Priscilla Shirer about life in ministry as a family and finding identity in Christ. Growing up in a family of accomplished speakers and authors: father, Dr. Tony Evans, and siblings, Chrystal Evans Hurst, Priscilla Shirer, and Jonathan Evans; Anthony chose to be a worship leader, singer and producer. In a music industry with pre-defined sounds, Anthony decided to make his own path with his unique genre crossing, one-of-a-kind style. As the son of a world-renowned pastor, Anthony left the comforts of Dallas, Texas, (and the Bible-belt) and took his talent and entrepreneurial abilities to Los Angeles. For more than two decades, his career has been about breaking down walls and taking unexpected routes to bring his faith and influence and impact outside of the church walls. This impact includes 10 solo records, two of which hit the #1 spot on Billboard's Top Gospel Album charts, Vocal production for TV/Film, record production, acting, songwriting, talent production, a starring role in Disney's Hollywood Bowl Production of Beauty and the Beast, and a spot on the hit TV show, The Voice. In addition to all of these endeavors, Anthony has written or co-written three books, the latest—When Faith Meets Therapy, with psychotherapist Stacy Kaiser. This project addresses the intersection of his faith with the practicality of psychotherapy. In whatever he accomplishes, Anthony's desire is to share his life and authentic faith with transparency and honesty: “I am sure of this, that he who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Phil. 1:6).

When one door closes another door opens. There is always a way forward, but opportunity and advancement often depend on one thing: access. In this episode, Dr. Anita is joined by a friend of the In the Light family, Chrystal Evans Hurst. Together they get real and dig deep to talk about: why we believe (or don't believe) we have access to what matters most, the pain that paralyzes or empowers us, and how -- even while waiting-- you can access joy right this very minute.
“Everybody is either in a battle, on their way to a battle or they just got out of one" -Jonathan EvansToday I sat down with Jonathan Evans and we talked about his new book, Fighting Your Battles: Every Chrisitan Playbook for Victory. Jonathan is a husband, father of five beautiful children, brother to Priscilla Shirer, Chrystal Evans Hurst and Anthony Evans and the son of Dr. Tony Evans. Jonathan is a former NFL player and he is now the chaplain of the Dallas Cowboys football team. Jonathan shares some of his personal battles on today's show and how he and his wife have preserved through them all. I know can we all agree with Jonathan that everyone is either in a battle, coming out of a battle or going through a battle so we need to know how to fight our battles so that we can be victorious. His new book Fighting Your Battles teaches us that the storm does not always stop when you take the faith step. We see this in Peter's story, he was walking on a storm when Jesus called him forward. As you trust God, Jonathan reminds us that it may still be stormy, but as you remain consistent in God's Word, prayer, and worship, your yoke will be easier and you will experience less burden. You will be ready to fight your spiritual battles and know that you can be victorious after listening to today's episode. This week on Real Talk with Rachael, I'm talking with Anthony Evans about his book When Faith Meets Therapy. For two decades, Anthony has voiced the gospel with a melodic, thought-provoking style, and has emerged as one of Christian music's premier worship leaders and singers. Along the way, Anthony has released ten solo projects (the last two climbing all the way to #1 on Billboard's Top Gospel Album charts), released his first two books (Unexpected Places and Divine Disruption), produced numerous music videos, acted in four movies, and even performed as “Beast” in Disney's Hollywood Bowl production of Beauty and the Beast. In addition, he has created inspirational events in collaboration with his father, beloved pastor and international speaker, Dr. Tony Evans; his sisters, Priscilla Shirer and Chrystal Evans Hurst; and his brother, author and speaker Jonathan Evans. In more recent years, Anthony has been working and producing in Los Angeles, where he appeared on NBC's The Voice. His time on the show led to him being discovered and asked to perform and produce vocals for various major artists and networks. In addition to vocal production, Anthony has been enlisted as a talent producer for an assortment of popular reality and competition shows. This sojourn in LA has led him to think more progressively about his music and ministry—he desires to communicate in terms that connect with people spiritually, no matter where they are in their journey with the Lord, without compromising his own faith and message. This focus has allowed Anthony to use his one-of-a-kind voice to reverberate through the church and out its doors to impact the world beyond. Key Points from Our Conversation: Sometimes our faith can keep us from addressing the root of our problems. We feel shame that praying and reading the Bible aren't changing us, but we need practical tools to process our thoughts and emotions. The church is often not seen as a safe place for people struggling with their mental health because of a lack of empathy and authenticity, which creates shame. We can create a safe space when we find empathy by understanding their story. When people show you who they are, believe them. Don't be a victim of your own compassion. When we experience pain and grief, it's natural to want to numb those feelings, but you must feel to heal. Feelings aren't good or bad, they're indicators. Therapy is a safe place to experience your feelings without judging them. Feelings are valid but temporary. We can trust in God's truth. "When you start walking in the truth in spite of how you feel, your feelings will follow your feet." Be as kind to yourself as you would be to someone else who is struggling. Give yourself grace. It's about progress, not perfection. Making mistakes is a sign you're trying. Do what you can and God will do what you can't. Let's Get Real Practical: Tips for finding a therapist - Pray for the right therapist Look at fees and consider your budget. Many therapists have interns with reduced rates that are supervised by licensed therapists. Some offer payment on a sliding scale. Make sure they're licensed (or under someone licensed) in your state. Read the bio on their site and see if what matters to them matters to you. (If you're looking for a Christian counsel, check AACC.net) Tips for getting the most out of therapy - Ask questions that matter to you. Be vocal about techniques that work and ones that don't. Ask for book and podcast recommendations. Keep a journal and include thoughts, feelings, dreams, and anything you'd like to process in your session. Set recurring appointments. Therapy is not just for people going through a crisis, it's a lifestyle. Connect with Anthony: website | Instagram | Facebook Connect with Rachael: website | Instagram | Facebook

For Father's Day, Stephanie welcomes NLF chaplain and Pastor Jonathan Evans for a no-nonsense conversation about our investment as parents for the Kingdom of God. With his trademark candid and bold kindness, Jonathan shares his approach to parenting, as well as what he learned from his parents, Lois and Dr Tony Evans. We discuss fatherhood in particular, but these principles apply to all forms of parenting and for everyone who ministers to children of all ages! So, parents, grandparents, family members and all youth leaders -- this episode will inspire you, challenge you, and help you remember how eternal your investment is! Jonathan shares, “God is calling you to go further, rise higher, and achieve more in His name than you could ever imagine. But you will never get to experience all that God has for you unless you are willing to rise up out of the depths of your own disappointments, get up off the couches of your own comfort zones, and pursue His plan for this season. Now.” Beyond parenting, Jonathan shades his quest for a deeper intimacy with God. He remembers living life on “cruise control,” comfortable where he was, following in the footsteps of his well-known and respected father (Dr. Tony Evans), until one day he realized he didn't know his own role or purpose in life. Jonathan didn't wait to figure it out; he took action and pursued what God had in store for him. His book, Your Time is Now urges us to get out of the “comfort” rut and do the same. Using the Old Testament leader Joshua as a model for stepping up to God's calling, Jonathan invites us to stop living at surface level, dig deeper, and step into our callings now, no matter what obstacles stand in our way. “Now is the time for you to live out your purpose for God,” says Jonathan. “Not when you're older. Not when you've settled down. Not when you feel like you've got nothing else to do…Now is your season.” In Your Time is Now, Jonathan invites us to shift our perspectives from an outward concern about what the world thinks, to an inward focus on the only One whose opinion really matters: God. No matter the season we find ourselves in or the challenges we face, Jonathan encourages us to stand on the truth that God can and will use us and this season for His purpose, if only we intentionally and actively pursue Him. Rachel Awtrey is an online encourager and podcaster in Birmingham, Alabama. She spends most of her time connecting with her friends online encouraging them to seek Jesus in small and large ways. She is the host of the Behind the Bliss, a top-rated podcast, which creates space for women to share stories and their reality of what life is really like behind the bliss so that others might experience an “oh yeah, me too” moment. She and her loyal, loving, BTB listeners (myself included!!) believe there is power in vulnerability, sharing the hard and pretty parts of our life. Revealing the story behind your highlight reel requires true bravery, but it's not about doing it well all at once rather being obedient in your next step.Though Rachel loves sharing stories of other encouragers, Mack Brock, Kari Jobe, and Chrystal Evans Hurst – just to name a few guests featured Behind the Bliss, she also is carrying a story of her own! As this episode releases Rachel and her husband Thomas are less than two months away from meeting their first child. Not only are we praising God for the miracle of this baby, but we are also honoring Him for working in the waiting. As I speak with Rachel about overcoming infertility and, of course, beginning Behind the Bliss, I want to approach this subject with sincere sensitivity to those of you who might be praying through a similar journey. A few of the phrases and subjects mentioned might be an unwanted reminder of past traumas involving pregnancy. Please know you are not alone, may Rachel's story of how God met her in the mess be a bright hope to you!

How Does She Do It? | Practical Insight & Honest Perspective on Being Grown
In these times, and always, prayer is a weapon and powerful tool in our faith. It offers a chance to enhance our relationship with God, while stretching our faith and confidence in who we are in Christ. If you're like me, you might feel helpless right now. Discouraged and probably overwhelmed. I am with you. I can't change what we are all going through together, but I wanted to do something. So I decided to put together a quick, scrappy and imperfect series to help shine some hope in the chaos we are in. I threw it together, texted a few friends to see if they would want to join me and put it on the calendar. I'm calling it Hope in the Chaos. Today I'm joined by my friend, Chrystal Evans Hurst. We are going to walk with you and talk with you and process this with you. We're going to pray and talk about what anchors us during this storm. Would you join me for this? There's no ask. No sale. No agenda. I just want to be present for you as we figure out how to get through this together in the coming days. I care about you friend, and I'm here for you. ?? It's easy to look back and think of all the things you'd do differently in your teenage years, isn't it? Maybe there are some small things you'd change … you wouldn't have worn so much makeup or pushed yourself to do better in math. Or perhaps the people you thought were your best friends led you to make decisions that now you'd do much differently. As an adult, hindsight is 20/20. But what if we made the choice today to look back at the decisions we made and believe that although we can't change them, God can use them? In today's episode of the Proverbs 31 Ministries Podcast, author and speaker Chrystal Evans Hurst shares a message titled, “3 Things I'd Tell My Teenage Self.” In this episode, you will… Realize that you are loved as you are, and you don't have to clean up your mistakes to receive God's love. Find comfort in knowing the very struggle you face today is developing in you the strength you need for tomorrow's battle. Stop believing the lie that at some point you will “arrive” and start believing that your journey will always be a process that requires time and trust. Do you remember dreaming about what your first job would be after college? Maybe you pictured yourself putting on business clothes every day, sitting in creative brainstorming meetings and-arguably the best part when you're a broke college student-finally getting an adult paycheck. I know I sure did. Unfortunately, that wasn't what happened-not even close. My first job after graduating was as an advertising coordinator at a local newspaper in Nashville, TN. I was so excited about this position. From the name alone, I thought it sounded perfect for me. I envisioned myself working across every department and helping them come up with creative ways to market their messages. Well, it wasn't long before my little fantasy was crushed. Turns out that "advertising coordinator" was really just a fancy title for data entry. I spent my days inputting data into a decades-old software program that crashed every few hours. Every day, I walked into a gray cinder block building with gray walls, gray ceilings, gray cubicles and fluorescent lights. I died a little inside every day I worked there. It was a mind-numbing, miserable job for someone like me-creative, energetic and a people-person. But the problem wasn't only that the job made me miserable. I couldn't be myself. I wasn't doing something I was good at. I wasn't in a position that made me come alive, gave me energy, or brought me joy. I wasn't even using my strengths or talents. I wasn't being me. Related: Recognizing Your Gifts Have you ever felt that way? Have you ever been in situations, gone through seasons, or even spent years feeling like you lost yourself? Feeling like you didn't even recognize who you were anymore? I meet so many women who feel like they've gotten lost in motherhood, their careers or in other people's expectations of them. That last one-other people's expectations-reminds me of a fascinating book called The Top Five Regrets of the Dying by Bronnie Ware. Bronnie spent years working in palliative care. During her time caring for the terminally ill, Bronnie wrote a blog that later became a book about the most common regrets of the people she cared for. The number one regret was having worked too much. But the second one really surprised me. It was not having lived a life that was true to themselves. What Bronnie learned is so important. It's an opportunity for us to adjust our perspective and start making choices today that will help us avoid that same regret. Because a life well-lived is one where we live as our truest selves. Women often tell me they've lived for other people for so long they don't even know what they want anymore. Even worse, they don't even know who they are anymore. If this is you today, I want to encourage you: You don't have to stay there and wonder who you are or where "the real you" went. I want to give you five questions you can ask yourself that will help you get back to you. Consider them road signs to point you in the right direction. Related: Push Forward and Get Unstuck Five Questions to Help You Discover Your True Self 1. What do you want? Don't ask yourself what your spouse wants, what your kids need, or what all your friends think you should do. Ask yourself what you want. That's a tough question to answer because we so often consider our own desires to be selfish. But the truth is that the desires of your heart are not bad things. They are God things. In fact, Jesus asked this same question. A blind man once approached Jesus asking for mercy. Jesus responded by asking him, "What do you want me to do for you?" (Luke 18:41 NIV). Don't you think Jesus knew what this blind man wanted? Jesus didn't need the blind man to tell him, but I believe Jesus wanted to draw out those desires in him. And He wants to do the same for you. 2.Where do you want to be? If you don't know where you're going, you're never going to get there. That's why...
