YENZ STRUTZ LEAD SINGER/SONGWRITER/BASSIST AND FOUNDER OF GERMAN PROGRESSIVE ROCK GROUP CRYSTAL PALACE ZOOM TV SPECIAL EVENT ON INTERVIEWING THE LEGENDS Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I'm your host Ray Shasho. Crystal Palace were founded in Berlin, Germany, in the early 1990s. The band received worldwide attention with the release of the Best-of-CD “Through the Years” in (2005), enabling Crystal Palace to perform live regularly with other international artists at various festivals in Europe. In 2011, divergent musical interests emerged within the band, resulting in a new line-up. This line-up turned out to be creative and harmonious, enabling the band to go on tour with the well-known German progressive rock band RPWL. The band recorded the album “The System of Events” in early 2013 with guest artists Colin Edwin of (Porcupine Tree) and Kalle Wallner and Yogi Lang of (RPWL). Crystal Palace was eventually signed by German label “Gentle Art of Music”. In 2016 the band's most successful album until that point, “Dawn Of Eternity”, was released. The album reached #17 in the International AOR-charts. Crystal Palace released “Scattered Shards” in 2018. The band changed labels and decided to go with Progressive Promotion. An important reason for this change was to show that the band can arrange their music without prominent support. The sound of the band is characterized by melodic passages and instrumentally well worked-out themes that, when listened to carefully, entice the listener to sink into a pleasurable musical experience with their own imaginative thoughts. The most recent release by Crystal Palace is Still There. Danielle Brooks acknowledged all that was happening.  She dug into her childhood trauma.  She started to map out how some of the unhealed areas in her life shaped the decisions she was making.  Danielle realized that people get stuck in regret or in lost opportunities.  It was her 50th birthday and she was trying to figure out how to celebrate in the midst of the pandemic.  She didn't want to be stuck in “healing mode.”  She figured out that we all need to listen to our intuition and listen to ourselves.Eventually she stopped therapy and got out of the divorce recovery group that she had been a part of.  For her birthday, she decided to make “Top 10 Lists” instead.  Dealing with the trauma is necessary, but there was joy she found along the way.  She wanted to reconnect to the little girl inside of her.  She also struggled with “toxic positivity.”  She needed to be healed enough to know whether or not she was denying her own reality, but she also realized that it's ok to be a positive person in the world.Grief was important for her because she was a person who didn't have a lot of self-worth.  It took her holding space for her own grief and allowing herself to feel those feelings in order to turn that around.  Talking about it with safe people is important, also.  She found her “helpers!”Danielle says that taking the first step is important.  You may be surprised where you find support.  There can be a lot of healing when you become open and vulnerable.  This lightens your grief. We live in a youth-focused culture.  This makes it challenging to feel comfortable at your age.  Let yourself “be.”  Be where you are.  Be who you are.  Be the age you are.How do you do an “autopsy” of your own life? She likes to write, so she started with one question.  “When was the last time that I felt truly happy?” From the list that this question prompted, she started to dig a little bit deeper into those and went from there.  After that, she started to go back even earlier and did the same thing.  It created a “web of happiness” for her.  Danielle was living life like she could outrun her past; that she could achieve enough to close the door on her past.  She had rehearsed her vulnerability story very well.  It was a story of overcoming; a military career, getting a masters degree, etc. She told herself that she could “pray her way” out of her past.  But, she had never dealt with it.  She had to go back and reclaim the rest of her story.Danielle finishes her time on the podcast by mentioning a couple of books that have helped her on her journey:Crystal Evans Hurst's book, “She's Still There.”  Rediscovering the little girl inside of you.  This book helped her to be confident with who she is.  She is now embracing every aspect of who she is.“Everything Belongs” by Richard Rohr.  This book integrated her Christian beliefs with the rest of her life. She was able to tap into her spirit and expand her capacity to open herself up to her internal intuition.

Do You Have Lazy Faith?

Imperfectly Pollyanna

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 15, 2021 20:50

One of my biggest pet peeves is laziness. Don't get me wrong, I have my fair share of lazy moments. But it's things like not throwing away trash, someone leaving trash next to the trashcan in the bathroom, my kids doing their work halfway, a coworker not taking a few extra minutes to put something away…well, these things just annoy me. Which also means I sometimes annoy myself because I can have 20 things to get done in a day and choose to sit and binge watch a show for way longer than I care to admit right now. It's my own fault, of course, when I'm then panicking at something needing to be done at the last minute. This past weekend, I was a guest on a show called The C.R.O.S.S. You can watch the replay HERE.Part of that conversation, we brought up the point of how our kids are going to learn things, whether we want them to or not, and there are some topics that are not appropriate – no matter who tells you otherwise – that should not be learned at school. The problem is we have become a generation that has this idea that our kids are going to be exposed to and learn about things that are just a part of growing up in the world today. We have accepted the lie that it is normal for our children to figure things out on their own.But that, in my opinion, is lazy parenting. Are there some things we can't control? Yes. Are there things our kids will learn from someone other than us? Also yes. But does that mean we sit back on the couch with our feet propped up, throwing our hands in the air like “well, I learned that way and I turned out just fine.” But did you really? When you look at your past, all the experiences and lessons learned, then when you look at where you are in your life right now…are there things you hope differently for your kids than what turned out to be true for you? I'm not talking about just one thing…I'm talking about your education, your job, your health, your spiritual walk, your relationships…if you turned out perfectly, then congratulations. However, for the vast majority of people, we all have things that we are reaping the consequences of based on how we were raised and the exposures we had. Now, hold with me. I don't want you to get the idea that you are in a place now that was not meant for you to be. Because that goes against everything else I've ever said here on the podcast, right? The idea that we are here for a reason, we have been chosen for this time, and there is nothing that has been a surprise to God. This is all true. Yet at the same time, it is also true that we are not called to say “oh, well, I did the things, learned the habits, experienced the consequences, and turned out to be in a place where I was supposed to be so my kids can do the same.”We are not called to be passive parents. Brains are not fully developed until we are in our 20's. For all you science lovers, that's a scientific fact. So, why would we hold an underdeveloped brain to the same standard of making decisions and learning things as we do as adults? We've been discussing the topic of Raising Warriors and I want to make something clear. Raising Warriors doesn't mean raising children to learn how to fight. In Exodus 14:14, the Lord is speaking to the Israelites and says “The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” We don't have to worry or fret over how the battle against evil will be won. See, Jesus already took care of that for us. Do we still have daily battles we have to face? Absolutely. But are we supposed to be fighting them on our own or expecting our children? Of course not. When it comes to fighting the evil in this world, it is so much more than knowing right from wrong. It is more than being taught that love is love or love your neighbor by doing what you're told. It is more than being dragged to church on Sunday and forced to say prayer at the dinner table. The armor of God includes a shield of faith, to withstand the evil that is thrown at us. How will our children know how to protect themselves from evil if we don't tell them as well as show them? Do you really want the world telling your kid how to stand up against the devil? Because when we know and have faith, it doesn't matter what is thrown at us, we can push back in confidence that the Lord is fighting for us and our faith in Him will not be in vain. Teaching our children to have faith in God can sometimes feel like an impossible thing. Especially when we struggle, ourselves, to have faith in all circumstances. We all struggle. Our faith struggles. But you know what? We can go back to things we DO know…faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. We are told that we need only have faith the size of mustard seed. Do you know how small that is? A mustard seed is about 1 to 2 millimeters in diameter. If you aren't sure of the comparison, look it up compared to a penny. It's not but a blip. If our faith can move mountains and need only be the size of a mustard seed, and if faith is our shield…even when we stumble in our faith, if it is STILL THERE, no matter how small, we can stand against evil.We want our children to be protected, right? We want them protected against getting hurt, viruses, illness, bullies, people that want to harm them. We can do a lot of that for them when they are little. However, as they grow, it becomes more apparent that as they become more independent that they need to know how to protect themselves. How many times have we let our own children down? I don't know about you, but I feel like I fail a LOT. But if I…if we…can raise a child to learn how to walk, eat, climb, ride a bike, drive a car, do laundry, mow the grass, apologize, be kind…then we can also have faith that God is working for us…He is fighting for us…He is teaching us…so that our faith can grow and we can take that shield up in confidence to protect from attacks. Not only that, but we are then able to lead our children to do the same. To take up their shields of faith. They may start out tiny, but IF we are active in our parenting, deliberate in our decisions, and strong in the middle of adversity…they will see what it means to be a warrior. You may be saying, “this is all great, Courtney, but HOW do I do that? HOW do I teach them to have faith, to take up their shields, to trust in God?”And I would be lying if I said I had all the answers. I would be lying if I said I was doing it all right. But I can tell you some things we are doing that I hope and pray will have a positive impact for my children's future.Every thing we do. The choices we make. The words we say. The things we allow our children to be exposed to. It all affects their faith just like it affects ours. And if you think your child is past the point of being influenced by you, I ask you, do you think the world is still influencing them? If so, then keep going. Keep fighting for them. If you think you've already totally screwed up on your parenting, that is NOT the Lord giving you those thoughts. I am 100% sure. Our children are put in our care not just to say “thanks God” before tossing them into the world to be eaten. They are put in our care to teach them, show them, guide them in raising their shields of faith to push back against the devil. To believe and know WHO is ultimately in control, no matter what doubts come their way. Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. Those words are found in Joshua, chapter 1, verse 9. You are raising warriors…don't be a passive parent. Be an active parent. Be strong and have courage. Take up your shield of faith and teach your children to do the same.Find me on FacebookFind me on Instagram (I am currently doing a giveaway through Dec 20th over on my Instagram)

Chrystal Evans Hurst joins Kevin in her relational communications style to talk about growing up in a famous Christian family. Her well-known father, Dr. Tony Evans, and mother looked at Chrystal and each of her siblings with an eye towards their giftings and how God could use each of them individually with their unique talents and skillsets. Chrystal shares what it means to be an integrator, and how her love of music, women's ministry, and helping in practical ways shows her love for God and love for people. She answers questions like what does it look like to be a woman God can use in practical everyday ways? And what does God say about a woman's value, whether she's single or married? And how does she balance the demands of life while pursuing a heart that loves Jesus and a life that honors Him?  Co-written with Dr. Tony Evans, Chrystal describes her first book “Kingdom Woman” as Real Life meets Dallas Theological Seminary. Throughout the podcast, Chrystal talks eloquently about the different seasons of a woman's life: life at work, life at home, seasons of rearing children, supporting a spouse, caring for elderly parents, etc.  and the mistake many women make by trying to do and be everything at the same time. Chrystal shares thoughts on her book “She's Still There” of how God moved her from a season of personal pain to discovering the girl God called Chrystal to be. She gives a clear clarion call to honesty about who you really are the need to recalibrate when you get off track. Things get personal when Kevin asks about the role fathers can have in the lives of their daughters.  Towards the end of the podcast, Kevin asks Chrystal some real-life questions about his role as a white father of a black daughter.  Chrystal hits it out of the park with her thoughtful answer as to some of the things Kevin is doing well and some things he could do better. Today's episode will encourage you to take a fresh look at your life and see who God has made you be, where you are, and how you can make course corrections to get to where He wants you to be. Chrystal Evans Hurst is the author of Kingdom Woman, She's Still There, Show Up For Your Life, and The 28-Day Prayer Journey. Learn more about Chrystal at chrystalevanshurst.com

In this episode Renee shares some amazing prophetic dreams she had, and how the dreams combined with an amazing reading she had from a medium who brought in her brother who had passed about 20 years earlier, lead her to become a medium herself. Full show notes for Marbles and Mediumship: How did Renee's Deceased Brother Let Her Know He's Still There?: Psychic Medium Renee Buck Of course Liz wants the evidence, and Renee shares about the time her brother gave her an absolutely remarkable sign that even impressed Liz. This sign defied the laws of the universe, how mass and matter behave, and is one of the most evidential Liz has ever heard. To Renee, not only was it mind-blowing, it was incredibly healing. The two also discuss automatic writing, the nature of time, what a Spirit Guide is, and how Renee found hers. Scripture For Today:1 Kings 8:38“and when a prayer or plea is made by anyone among your people Israel—being aware of the afflictions of their own hearts, and spreading out their hands toward this temple…”Our Rights Under Prayer pt 1All of this year, our ministry has been focused on prayer. I want you to be able to take the devil “head on” in any attacks he initiates – and know, without any shadow of a doubt, that you are going to kick his rear end so hard he will have to take the 1000 year incarceration just to recover!  AMEN?! We hear a lot today about “our rights.” Our constitutional rights. Our civil rights. Just about any kind of “rights” you can think of. I want to look at our PRAYER RIGHTS. Specifically, not the rights guaranteed to us under the Constitution, but our RIGHTS GUARANTEED TO US THROUGH PRAYER!  Amen! There are safe guards built into the prayer system – not to keep us from accessing the things of God, but to keep the devil from getting to it. It is like using a bank to protect our assets and money. James 4:2-3 “You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” It is not God's will for us to be sick and die It is not God's will for any of us to be tormented. It is not God's will for you to be under condemnation for mistakes you made that may have contributed to the circumstances you are currently facing. You need to make the decision that whatever the doctors say, or whatever others say – is NOT the final Word…God's Word is the final authority. You MUST KNOW that God's Word is His will.             That God is NOT moved by your need or your crying and tears and your begging or your spending 10 hours in prayer crying out to Him to help you…             God is ONLY moved by Faith…Your Faith…Faith in HIS WORD Luke 18:1, Jesus emphasized that Men should always pray…always…always pray – not cave in, not quit and not give up! Amen! The ONLY situation from which there is no deliverance – is when you REFUSE to pray. We learned several sessions ago, that you do not need to be wasting precious time trying to get in touch with the Pastor or others to ask them to pray…Instead, others should be seeking YOU to ask YOU to pray….because YOUR prayers are getting answered! Amen! Life Happens… The world is full of troubles. If you fall apart and go get drunk, go get high, or whatever…when you finally wake up or sober up and come down from your high…the problems are STILL THERE. So, you go get your Bible that you have not read in 10 years…and “try” to “get” God to do something for you…but it doesn't work…it doesn't work that way… WHY? Because  you are leaning on Old, Traditional religious teaching that God does not want you to have “anything”…He doesn't listen to you because you are or have been a bad person or done bad things…God is mad at you – or whatever….! You have to understand. You have a communication channel that is a direct line TO God…AMEN!  It is a line the devil cannot even tap into…AMEN!  He does not have access to it… It's like going to the bank to get your money out…you have to follow the procedures at the bank for getting your money…not because they don't want you to have your money…they are trying to protect your money from the thieves out there that are trying to get it! A great preacher named Rufus Mosley once was crying out the to the Lord for something…having spend almost an hour on the floor in prayer, crying out…begging…and he got quiet for a moment and started thinking, “Here lies a man who knows absolutely nothing…doing all the talking to someone who knows...

Church planting, even under the best of circumstances, always requires grit and determination. Planting in one of the most progressive cities in the US at the turn of the millennium required even more. But if Mark Driscoll struggled with anything in his ministry, it wasn't a lack of will.  The earliest days of Mars Hill were a whirlwind of activity – launching new campuses, preaching as many as seven times a Sunday, assimilating new people, and developing new ministries all at once. The church quickly proved to be a magnet for spiritual seekers of all kinds – eager Christians looking to build, apathetic Christians needing renewal, and non-Christians hearing the gospel in a new context.  On this episode of The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill, we take you inside that hive of activity to examine up close the ways God was at work. You'll see Mark Driscoll not only as a preacher and a movement leader, but as a caring pastor.  You'll also see signs of volatility in Mark's ministry. Tensions in the Young Leaders Network start to build and a pivot in Mark's own convictions pushes them to their limits. Meanwhile, inside Mars Hill, a throwaway remark at a friendly dinner becomes the catalyst for intense, life-altering conflict. “The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill” is a production of Christianity Today  Executive Producer: Erik Petrik Produced, written, edited, and hosted by: Mike Cosper Music, sound design, and mixing: Kate Siefker Graphic Design: Bryan Todd Social Media: Nicole Shanks Editorial consulting: Andrea Palapant Dilley, Online Managing Editor Christianity Today Editor in Chief: Timothy Dalrymple Theme song: “Sticks and Stones” by King's Kaleidescope Closing song: “Did I Tell You the Bullet's Still There” by Bill Mallonee Learn more about your ad choices. Chrystal Evans Hurst is an energetic, life-loving “girl-next-door” who loves encouraging others to fulfill their potential in Christ. With humor and vulnerability, Chrystal tells it like it is but does so with grace, integrity, and love. She is the best-selling author of She's Still There and Kingdom Woman. You can find Chrystal regularly sharing encouragement via her podcasts and blogs, where she poignantly reflects on faith and speaks with frank honesty about the everyday experiences of women. In her new book, The 28-Day Prayer Journey: A Daily Guide to Conversations with God, Hurst leads readers on a journey to pray, bit by bit, day by day, to make regular, consistent, fervent prayer become less formidable and more integral to their daily lives. “The goal of this journey is for you to become addicted to your time with Jesus,” writes Hurst. “There are a lot of things you could be addicted to that will kill your spirit, harm your soul, or cripple your body, but talking to Jesus because you can't imagine your life without Him— that will only give you life!” Each day on the 28-day journey, Hurst invites readers to pray, along with three short devotional readings—for the morning, afternoon, and evening—that cover the basic tenets of prayer. Readers are invited to journal their dialogue each day, and to reflect on their progress at the conclusion of each week. Chrystal firmly believes God's promise in Jeremiah 29:11, “I know the plans that I have for you...” and she desires to help other women believe and apply that truth to their lives.
