This episode is a blog post series discussing the Mental Colour code and its application in both literal physical self defense and mental health. At UTKM it is very much believed that self defense is not just physical and too often we can focus too much on the groin strikes and throat punches that good self defense is very much about balance which includes both the internal and external aspects. Several years ago UTKM adopted and slightly modified the Colour code developed by Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper and it has been an integral part of our Self Defense and Krav Maga approach ever since. One must understand its application to literal self defense, to personal mental health and Mindfulness as well as how it connects to our nervous system and its various reactions. Understanding this is key to a happy and healthy life and one where you have truly learned to walk in peace. In keeping with the coming holiday season, Ontario's government has adopted a festive colour code to determine which municipalities get to open for business and which ones get coal in their stocking. The Ford government has presented yet another plan to tackle the spread of the coronavirus at time when the province is reporting record increases and a 7 day rolling average of 950 new cases per day. It means Ottawa, Peel and York will be able to return to what was Stage 3, allowing for indoor restaurant dining, and gyms and theatres to reopen as of November 7. Toronto will have to wait another week before the restrictions are lifted. In the meantime, the Premier is taking criticism for driving his political agenda under the cover of COVID.

I always wanted to Bruce Lee.I wanted to 'Enter the Dragon'.I wanted to be a star.I wanted to be noticed.Had I 'noticed', I would have realised that Bruce Lee was more introvert than extrovert. It would have been a crucial observation because as I ran through the swings karate kicking my friends in the balls, and head butting polystyrene walls, I thought that if you were an introvert, you might as well jump over Niagara Falls. When I was a drinker, had you cut me open with a rusty pocket knife, then the letters E X T R O V E R and T would have fallen into the fruit bowl alongside the pineapples, oranges and lychee. And then I stopped.Drinking.And as time stilled, and the waffles leapt from the toaster, and rich tea biscuits fell apart over my coaster, I began to wonder if the story I had created since the beginning of 'cool as fuck teenage time' was true. Was I an extrovert?I didn’t feel like one.And I think this search for who we are is an important one because it allows us to stick a stiletto in the sand and say.NO MORE!I love this person. And this one.And this one.And this one.And I vow to communicate with them in a way that doesn’t lead to me wanting to deliver the Bruce Lee 'one-inch death punch'. It’s not easy though.Discovering who we are.But at Strive we can help, and that’s what we talk about in today’s podcast when yours truly and Striver Claes speak about our intention of introducing Colour Code Personality Science into our TTAA philosophy. However, his botanical and zoological paintings on paper are considered to be among the finest in the world. Of particular interest is the unusual drawing and painting technique he used, recording colour information about specimens by annotating preliminary pencil sketches with numerical colour codes to be painted at a much later stage referring directly to a painted colour chart.
