Axel Karakasis is the most recognisable Greek name in the Techno scene. His career is marked by a number of classic themes and a series of appearances that have established him as an international DJ.   The rise to his present status did not happen overnight, but goes back to the 80s and the 90s, when Techno made its first appearance. Fascinated by this new wave, Axel's courtship with electronic music saw a very different light…   By the late 90s, he was already known through various DJ residencies in Athens, as well as through his regular events with his team “Bubbles” –to be remembered to this date by many! This was when the techno wiz-kid earned his place among the top Greek DJs and appeared in numerous events in the biggest clubs of the Greek capital! He soon became the most wanted Greek Techno DJ, playing regularly in the biggest venues in Athens, Thessaloniki, Mykonos, Crete and all over his native Greece.         Being a restless spirit led Axel to new avenues in music production. He always wanted to play unique music in his sets. That's what drove him to get into the studio and begin his own productions. In 2000, he had his first release on Pornographic Recordings and this was only the beginning, as a string of classic releases followed in the likes of Intec Records, MB Elektronics, Primate, etc. to establish himself in a genre he referred to as “Groovy Techno”! With his very own mark on discography, Axel's international career took off. Confirming his status as the most sought after Greek Techno DJ of his time, Axel headlines events in some of the best clubs in the world, such as the Rex Club (Paris), Womb (Tokyo), Turnmills (London), tours regularly countries like Belgium, Colombia, France, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, Korea, Croatia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Holland and Brazil, to name a few, and has appeared in top festivals like Awakenings (Netherlands) Rabac Festival (Croatia), Apokalypsa (Czech Republic), etc.: he keeps exciting crowds all over the world!   At present, Axel releases his music in top record labels, like Kombination Research, Planet Rhythm, Tronic and others, whereas his tracks have featured in well known compilations and mix CDs, such as Extreme Euphoria (Ministry of Sound), Cream Ibiza, I Love Techno, and many many more. However, his work wouldn't be complete without his own imprint! In his first venture, he was the co-founder of Omega Audio Recordings, which received rave reviews and support by top DJs world-wide, as well as being a platform for new talents to see the spotlight. In September 2007, Axel decided to channel all his energy into his very own brainchild, Remain Records, which is gradually transforming into a brand encompassing both vinyl (Remain Records) and digital (Remain Records and Remain Limited) releases by Axel, The Advent & Industrialyzer, Marco Bailey, Cristian Varela, Alexander Kowalski, A.Paul as well as newer talent.   Axel's strong reputation is based on his consistency towards the genre that established him. Always faithful to techno, Axel Karakasis delivers all-fresh, brand-new sounds that evolve. Having earned strong support by clubbers and his peers worldwide, Axel keeps challenging the clubland with his releases and his full of energy DJ sets. In this limited run series, I will be exploring the pioneers that have shaped and influenced the EDM we have today. In this episode I will be featuring “Cascada”. “Cascada” is a duo consisting of German-British singer Natalie Horler and German DJ and Producer's  DJ Manian and DJ Yanou. The group was formed in 2004. Their most notable track was “Everytime We Touch”. Here is a listen here. "Everytime We Touch" was released in 2005 but didn't gain widespread success until 2007. The song's memorable melody and lyrics made it stand out. With its mixture of Eurodance, trance and pop it appealed to a large audience. This combination resulted in the track being frequently played on radio stations in the U.S; something that had previously not happened for Eurodance or trance artist. "Everytime We Touch" blazed the trail for other such acts to gain mainstream recognition. That's it for this week's Vinyl's from the past; now let's get back to more music. Lexer: Start – 18:54   and     End – 26:04Lexer, a German DJ and producer, began his musical career at the age of 18 with the release of his track "My Princess". This song was highly praised within the melodic house genre. By 2019, he had made a transition from melodic to deep house with the 2015 album “Nowehere Else”.

Having graced the decks on almost every continent, the Belfast born Greg Downey is no amateur when it comes to the art of DJing. Having impressed the promoter of Gategrasher while playing at an afterparty in Ibiza, Greg was asked to play at Space the following week. Very shortly afterwards, Greg broke through the UK trance scene playing at major shows such as Gatecrasher, Godskitchen, Slinky, Inside Out, Goodgreef, and Passion. What was every aspiring DJ's dream to travel the world soon became a reality for Greg. He was crisscrossing the globe flying from New York City to Sydney to Ibiza to Shanghai to Buenos Aires to London playing to massive crowds. Greg recorded his first “Live As album” on Discover from the mega Planet Love festival in Northern Ireland, which captured Greg's energy as a DJ and was featured as "Album of the Month" in Mixmag. Soon the prestigious BBC Radio One came calling and Greg appeared as a guest on Eddie Halliwell's radio show. It came as no surprise when Greg was voted into DJ Mag Top 100 poll coming in at number 82. This was a huge accomplishment for such a young talent. As Greg's DJing career was taking off, so were his productions. Catching the attention of John Digweed with his remix of “Heaven Scent”, Greg solidified himself as a producer when his remix claimed the number one spot on Beatport for over a month. His remix was championed by Sasha, Eric Prydz, Paul van Dyk, Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren and John Digweed. Greg was then snapped up by Paul van Dyk for his label Vandit. His first release “Stadium” was a huge success which became Mixmag's Cream Ibiza anthem of 2008. Greg was also chosen by Paul van Dyk to remix his track “New York City” which appeared on his “Hands on In Between” album. Working tirelessly in the studio, Greg started to produce hit after hit. His track “Global Code” on Vandit was featured in every Paul Van Dyk's set for close to a year and his following single Show Time for Dutch heavy weights Spinnin was number 2 on Beatport. Having teamed up with the lead singer Paul Draper from Mansun in 2010 to remake their classic track “Wide Open Space”; it became the track of the year having crossed over to daytime Radio One with support from Scott Mills and Vernon Kay and was chosen by Mixmag as their tune of the month. This track was later snapped up by major label EMI for a full release. 2011 saw Greg up the game once again when his remix of Everything But The Girl – Missing was signed to Warner Music. Greg's mix was released alongside Fedde Legrand's and reached number 1 on Beatport and was number 1 on Australia's leading radio station Radio Metro. Greg had three more top ten hits with Spinnin records, Knight Moves , Game Face and Sunrise. Greg and Simon Patterson teamed up with English vocalist Bo Bruce to create the anthem “ Come To Me” , This was an instant Ibiza anthem at Amnesia and Space and across the globe. Wanting to explore the darker side of his sounds, Greg developed his R.I.C.O alias to bring out the deeper underground techno sound. As Greg explains, “I think it's good to try new things and to develop yourself in the studio, I love growing as an artist and developing” after receiving great feedback from fans and fellow DJs of the tracks released under the R.I.C.O alias. Game Face and Afraid Of The Dark have been firm favourites of Markus Schultz featuring on his Global DJ Broadcast show several times. Greg's diversity also saw him snapped up by Gareth Emery's Garuda for his debut release with Crazy For You in 2012. Supported regularly by the likes of Armin van Buuren, Gareth Emery, Paul van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Sander van Doorn, Above and Beyond, Greg's many achievements, alongside his outstanding technical ability will ensure he continues to reach great heights. This man needs no further introductions. He is the best known Greek Techno export at this time with a long-standing career that still grows stronger. His success story begins in the late 80s when Techno made its first appearance. From this point onwards, Axel’s courtship with electronic music saw a very different light… By 1996, midst of an era that saw electronic music taking over the Greek dance scene, he was already known through various DJ residencies. In addition, together with the team "bubbles" he organised regular events –to be remembered to this date!- with a huge crowd of supporters! This was only the beginning for a series of very successful events in some of the biggest clubs in the Greek capital, and not only! In the following years, he became the most wanted Greek Techno DJ, having played in the biggest venues in Athens, Thessaloniki, Mykonos, Crete and all over his native Greece. Notably, DJing was not the only outlet for Axel. He sets up his own studio and starts exploring avenues in music production. To put it in his own words: “I’ve always wanted to create the music I had in my mind…”.
