The announcement that the Kingdom of God has arrived in Jesus is fundamental to our understanding of the cross because it is the proclaimation of regime change. As we look to conclude this series, we need to examine how God 'becoming King in Jesus' overthrows, disarms and defeats the existing powers which hold creation and humanity in bondage. What does God's rule and reign look like in the world and how is the church to exist in the light of it?

What does it truly mean to live a 'cross-shaped life'? This powerful message invites us into the radical concept of cruciformity—not just accepting the cross as our source of salvation, but embracing it as the very shape and form of our daily existence. Drawing from Philippians 1:18-26 and the extraordinary story of Desmond Doss, the conscientious objector who saved 75 lives at Hacksaw Ridge, we're challenged to see that following Jesus isn't about adopting a moral code or checklist. It's about entering into His narrative of selfless love, willing service, and trusting God even when circumstances scream otherwise. Paul writes from prison—a place of suffering—yet overflows with joy. How? Because joy isn't found in comfort, pleasure, or worldly success, but in communion with Christ as we live out His story. When we choose to disadvantage ourselves to advantage others, when we willingly take on the world's shame for the sake of the gospel, when we 'take up our cross daily,' we discover something counterintuitive: the resurrection power of the Holy Spirit flows most abundantly through cruciform living. This isn't about earning salvation—it's about growth in the life we've already been given.
