Summary In this episode of Armed American Radio, host Mark Walters discusses the implications of a proposed merger between the ATF and DEA, emphasizing the potential threats to gun rights and the Second Amendment. Joined by David Codrea, they explore the historical context, current political climate, and the importance of maintaining the ATF as a standalone agency. The conversation highlights concerns over increased militarization of federal agents, the conflation of gun ownership with drug crimes, and the need for representation from the gun owner community in discussions about gun laws. Takeaways The ATF should be abolished, not merged. Merging ATF with DEA could harm law-abiding gun owners. Gun ownership should not be conflated with drug crimes. The merger could lead to increased militarization of federal agents. Maintaining ATF as a standalone agency is crucial until unconstitutional laws are repealed. The current administration's stance on gun rights may not last. Future administrations could misuse the merger for gun control. Gun Owners of America raises valid concerns about the merger. The ATF has a history of being unfriendly to gun owners. Representation from the gun owner community is essential in policy discussions. This week, we're talking about an under-discussed part of federal gun law and a significant recent update to it. While most gun owners know you need to pass a background check to buy a gun from a licensed dealer. And most also know you need to pass one to get a concealed carry license. But many don't know their concealed carry license can be used to bypass the sales background check requirement--at least, in certain states. That list of states got longer this week as the result of a Gun Owners of America (GOA) lawsuit and President Donald Trump's executive review of gun policy. Now, 30 states have "Brady Permits" that allow holders to bypass the sales check. GOA's Sam Paredes joins the podcast to walk through the years-long legal fight. He lays out how GOA plans to lobby states to change their laws to qualify for the alternative status. He also said GOA plans to file follow-up suits to get ATF to recognize even more permits. Special Guest: Sam Paredes.

Republicans and their cheering fans in Con Inc. media are a bunch of listless vessels with no ideological direction on most issues. The one shining exception is the gun rights movement. We're joined today by Luis Valdes, national spokesman for Gun Owners of America, for a presentation on where things stand with gun rights both federally and in the states. Valdes celebrates numerous policy and legal successes of GOA, but also warns that there is more to be done. The gaping hole in gun rights is the gun-free zones. As a Floridian, he discusses the lessons of the FSU campus shooter and how RINOs in Florida support gun control without campaigning on it. Also, as a former police officer, Valdes is passionate about the need to treat civilians and police equally. He confronts some of the arguments from police organizations in support of various gun control laws. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Luis Valdes from Gun Owners of America returns for 2A Tuesday on the Marc Cox Morning Show, calling out the government's failure to address mental illness while scapegoating guns. Valdes and Marc agree that America doesn't have a gun problem—it has a mental health crisis. They highlight high-profile tragedies like Parkland and Covenant School as examples of failures in the system, not in the Second Amendment. Valdes slams red flag laws as ineffective and unconstitutional, calling for serious reform in mental health care. Plus, he tears into the Biden administration's ongoing attempt to reclassify pistols as short-barreled rifles, despite legal precedent and court rulings against the ATF's brace ban.
On this jam-packed Tax Day edition of the Marc Cox Morning Show, Marc, Kim, and Carl dissect the lawsuit by St. Louis Board of Aldermen President Megan Green, who's trying to block Missouri's return to SLMPD control. Attorney Jane Dueker, journalist Elliot Davis, and former Senator John Lamping break down the legal and political fallout. Marc and Kim slam the tax hike push, call out the double standards of Bernie Sanders and AOC, and spotlight Biden's attack on gun rights with Gun Owners of America's Luis Valdes. Ryan Wiggins blasts the broken tax system, and David McGarry warns about expiring Trump-era cuts. Meanwhile, Coachella's chaos, Forever 21's collapse, and the Harry Potter reboot fuel Ethan's In Other News. Todd Piro mocks identity politics in space, and Kim on a Whim debates Easter Monday as a federal holiday.
