Dark Horse Brewing Belgian Style Amber Ale Review

Dark Horse Brewing Belgian Style Amber Ale is an Amber Ale by style. Let us introduce the "red headed step child" of our beer portfolio. This beer is commonly over looked and is a true Ninja of a beer. While the malt and hops give this beer an amazing copper color, medium body, and a smooth mouth feel, it's the yeast that sets this one apart from other amber ales. Inspired by almost everything from Belgium (beer, women, mussels) we thought it would be cool to give our Amber a little Belgian love. This craft beer is 6.5% ABV and 50 IBUs. In this craft beer review, we will take a look at the color, smell, and taste.

CRAFT BEER PODCAST INFO: For the last 25 years, Dark Horse Brewing has gone hand in hand with Michigan Craft beer. From its humble beginnings to being one of the largest craft breweries in the state and country. From rumors to slander, from it's fall and purchase by ROAK, and what the current outlook of the brand is today. We sit down in this three part series talking about the past with Aaron and Carlos, who have a combined 25 years of brewing at the facility. We sit with the present representing the ROAK purchase, addressing some of the rumors of their organization, their original aspirations, and what mistakes they've learned from. We finish episode three with the front of the house staff. Those whom have served beer on premise at the brewery for years, who have lived through the old guard, the ROAK buyout, and they give us a insight into the future they want to see for their organization, and also give us some tips on 4 Elf day, along with explain what it's like managing such a massive party at their brewery. We don't get to every question, because we feel there are some things only certain people can tell us, but we dig as deep as we can and peel back the story that is, Dark Horse Brewing. MICHIGAN SERIES: Having brought in guests from all over the country this past two years, we wanted to still be true to our roots, so we have began the Michigan Series. Episode 136 - Sip/Tuck Our good buddy Mike is off this week, and in full recovery mode. After years of dealing with an issue that has really affected his ability to live life to the fullest, he went under the knife to get it corrected. We were all pretty nervous about it, and wondered at times if it was something he really wanted to do. Just last week we said to him, "Listen man, it doesn't really matter how much it curves, it's all about how well you use it. Like, yeah we get that it's really unpleasant to look at, and sometimes it just straight up doesn't work, but is this surgery really worth the risks involved?" Still, with all of that said, he insisted, and on Thursday he finally went in to get his deviated septum fixed. Wait... what did you think we were talking about? Get your minds out of the gutter, you pervs. So this week, our good buddies Tank and Jansypants joined us to pay tribute to Mike the best way we knew how. By drinking some Smells Like A Citra Safety Meeting IPA from Dark Horse Brewing, and peeling back the skin of a couple flicks about plastic surgery with unexpected side-effects. Join Us. Cheers!!! Burke’s Gambit is another in a long line of social deduction games, but where Burke stands apart from others is in the blending of multiple mechanics, like dice rolling, role playing/special character abilities, a parasite mechanic where no player really knows who is infected, and more!  Burke’s Gambit is played with 4-8 players, and can be yours for about $15-20 depending on the seller.  Be sure to check out our review at the end of the episode! Today we’ve got Teej drinking Plead the 5th by Dark Horse Brewing, Schnell has UFO White Ale by Harpoon Brewery and Beer Hall, Junior enjoys a Sungasm from Finch Beer Company, and Nelson downs some refreshing Zevia, a sugar-free, calorie-free soda, you know, so his liver doesn’t shut down. Season 2, Episode 8 - This week on the show, part two of our epic blind bourbon barrel-aged stout tasting, with the final rankings and results. The time has arrived! We’re drinking the final five beers of our blind tasting, adding up the scores, and announcing the big winners. Just to recap, here are the beers we’re tasting: · Firestone Walker Brewing Co. – Parabola, 2014· Goose Island Beer Co. – Bourbon County Brand Stout, 2014· Hangar 24 Craft Brewery – Pugachev’s Cobra, 2014· The Bruery – Black Tuesday, 2014· Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. – Bourbon Barrel-Aged Narwhal, 2014· Dark Horse Brewing Company – Bourbon Barrel-Aged Plead The 5th, 2014· Bell’s Brewery – Black Note Stout, 2014· Bottle Logic Brewing – Darkstar November, 2014· Avery Brewing Company – Uncle Jacob’s Stout, 2012 SPOILER ALERT: The results of the tasting are listed below, after the photo. All of our individual scores were pretty close to one another, and that could simply be coincidence, or the result of us discussing these beers as a group. Every beer in this tasting was great. They are all world class beers, and it was a real treat to have them all on the show. The Blind Bourbon Barrel-Aged Stout Bout Results of the 2015 Four Brewers Blind Bourbon Barrel-Aged Stout Bout: 1. Firestone Walker Brewing Co. – Parabola, 20142. Hangar 24 Craft Brewery – Pugachev’s Cobra, 20143. Dark Horse Brewing Company – Bourbon Barrel-Aged Plead The 5th, 20144. Bell’s Brewery – Black Note Stout, 20145. Bottle Logic Brewing – Darkstar November, 20146. Goose Island Beer Co. – Bourbon County Brand Stout, 20147. The Bruery – Black Tuesday, 20148. Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. – Bourbon Barrel-Aged Narwhal, 20149. Avery Brewing Company – Uncle Jacob’s Stout, 2012 So as you can see, Firestone Walker Parabola come out on top, followed by Pugachev’s Cobra from Hangar 24 Craft Brewery, with third place going to Dark Horse Brewing’s Plead the 5th. This was a fun exercise, and we encourage you to try this with your friends. The results may surprise you… BREW THE SHIT OUT OF IT. Special shoutouts go to “Cougar Steve” Saavedra for hookup on the Michigan beers, and Scott McElhone for inspiring the titles of episodes 7 and 8. Four Brewers Patrons get 50% off Firkfest tickets!
