Dark Horse Brewing Belgian Style Amber Ale is an Amber Ale by style. Let us introduce the "red headed step child" of our beer portfolio. This beer is commonly over looked and is a true Ninja of a beer. While the malt and hops give this beer an amazing copper color, medium body, and a smooth mouth feel, it's the yeast that sets this one apart from other amber ales. Inspired by almost everything from Belgium (beer, women, mussels) we thought it would be cool to give our Amber a little Belgian love. This craft beer is 6.5% ABV and 50 IBUs. In this craft beer review, we will take a look at the color, smell, and taste.

Ted Vivatson from Eel River Brewing Company is our guest on Brew Ha Ha with Harry Duke and Herlinda Heras. He is the owner and co-founder of the brewery, which is located in Humboldt, California. They opened in 1995. About two years after that, they were pioneers in organic practices. Ted grew up in Danville, California and was deployed in Germany in the US Army and there he got to know high quality beer. After he left the service, he noticed that there was no good local beer, so he and some friends set about to make some. Today Eel River is one of the oldest craft breweries in America. He took a temporary job in the US Forest Service while studying engineering and home brewing. It wasn't always easy to find ingredients and equipment back then before home brewing became popular. He took classes at UC Davis and the Siebel Institute. Now, he and the other craft brewing pioneers are seeing their children move into the same business. They are tasting a beer called Climax which is named after a locomotive train. He made it to order for a friend who asked for a “naked” beer, meaning something plain and simple with no altered ingredients. Russian River Brewing Co. is open in Santa Rosa on 4th St. and at their big Windsor location. Click the logo to visit their website for up-to-date hours, menus, beers and more info. It was really hard to find organic hops and grain back then. They found organic hops in New Zealand and they had to send someone down there to secure the first supply. This is a very simple beer with a low ABV and only 100 calories per serving. The next beer tasted is a California Blonde Ale which has won 5 medals at the Great American Beer Fest. They also have opened their Amber Ale. Their first organic beers were limited by what ingredients were available. Visit our sponsor Victory House at Poppy Bank Epicenter online, for their latest viewing and menu options. Ted Vivatson was also a pioneer in hard selzer, and Herlinda and Harry agree that his hard selzer the best tasting one around. They worked on it for about two years, to develop the right recipe. Finally they got it right. It's the only one naturally fermented.

"I've known Jonathan Moxey since long before I was on the beer writing beat. We were in a group of beer enthusiasts that met in and around new York city at least 15 years ago. Moxey was a homebrewer at the time. He was more than that, of course, but I first knew him as a homebrewer and a damn good one at that.  There would be parties and gatherings and bombers would be passed around and all of us, young ‘uns would talk about how beer could save the world – or at least make our worlds better.  Strangely enough a lot of folks in that group have gone on to work in and around beer, including opening their own breweries.  Moxey and his wife left New York for Missouri where he got a job at Schlafly, and then Perennial and now he's at Rockwell Beer Co. as the head brewer.  He's making tasty beer with soul, and it's always a pleasure when I get a can.  He's also an insightful and thoughtful guy. I saw him in person at the great American beer festival and over liters at Bierstadt Lagerhaus he got me thinking about beer in ways I hadn't in a long time.  So Moxey is here this week to share some of those thoughts and to keep the interest in beer flowing."-John Holl This Episode is Sponsored By:Pro BrewerWe bring original articles to ProBrewer.com twice a week covering issues important to the beer industry and aimed at helping breweries of all sizes understand different facets of the business.  Check out our articles on ProBrewer.com every Tuesday and Thursday and visit the site daily for other original content and to stay connected with the beer industry. For more Drink Beer, Think Beer check out All About Beer. Show notes from host John Holl"In a sign that the world is adapting to the pandemic, beer weeks are back and last week Asheville, North Carolina one of the great beer cities in America celebrated all of its breweries and producers. I was fortunate to spend a day in the city capped off by a visit to Highland Brewing, which was founded in 1994 by Oscar Wong. Today the brewery is led by his daughter Leah Wong Ashburn. Highland put in the hard work and laid the groundwork for the scene to come and today continues to make flavorful beers and welcome visitors to their expansive taproom and grounds that now feature a volleyball court.  This discussion was held in the brewery's barrel room, which opened during the pandemic and hasn't seen much use. But on this night where pints of Gaelic ale flowed and a crowd gathered to snack on bites from a local food truck, we could forget about the worries of the world for a few minutes and just enjoy some camaraderie. I'm joined in hosting duties by Jon Page, he's my long-time friend, the former managing editor of All About Beer and the photographer for The Craft Brewery Cookbook – which is on sale now – where books are sold.  This event was billed as a book signing, but I was more eager to hear from Leah and Oscar about the brewery, it's legacy and future, and the family dynamics.  We were using hand held mics and as happens sometimes people moved them back and forth, bear with us." This Episode is sponsored by:Cigar City Brewing Co.Have you met Florida Man? It's a modern Double IPA with a tropical expression from its blend of American hops, including Citra, Azacca, El Dorado, and Mandarina Bavarian, and is balanced by delicate peach esters from a unique Double IPA yeast and a dash of Canadian honey malt. What if I told you that when it comes to "Pivoting" , the thought that you should always pivot when you're not making progress. is a false belief? So what IS true? Listen for the amazing conversation with Tom Miter to find out! In this Talents on Tap episode,  You will learn when the right time to pivot is and when it's better to stay the course in your business or life!   "Have you ever been in a business or even life situation where you realize you pivoted too quickly, you gave up on the process and you changed course, and you realize, looking back, that if I had only stayed doing what I was doing, I'd be that much further ahead?"   Yes? Me too!  This is my story... I was in a business situation where I realized I pivoted too quickly and gave up on the process. I changed course and realized that if I had only stayed doing what I was doing, I'd be that much further ahead. Sometimes we keep on the same course way too long and we lose the momentum that we had at the beginning because we should have pivoted a little bit, or at least adjusted the sail slightly to change direction a little bit, or sometimes just a whole new direction.  Tom's story is different - he,  on the other hand, has high consistency and tends to be better at staying the course.  Which at times, can keep him stuck in mediocrity.  Today we are going to talk about when to pivot and when to stay the course and some tips and tools to help you figure out that decision, a really hard decision when that situation arises.      In this episode, you will learn the following: When is the best time to pivot in business or in life? What are the signs that it might be time to pivot? What are the consequences of not pivoting when necessary? What are the signs you should hold steady and stay the course?  Today's Talents on Tap beverage is from Brown's Brewing in Troy NY .  Tom is drinking his all time favorite beer, CHERRY RAZZ.  It's an Amber Ale brewed with cherries and raspberries.  Sheri a drinking NIGEL a New England IPA - that's hazy and juice forward with notes of ripe pear, tangerine, & pineapple, Tonatiuh, Citra & El Dorado hops Follow & connect with me on:  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sheri.miter LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sherimiter/ Website: https://www.sherimiterco.com/ Loved this episode? FlyteCo Brewing is cleared for takeoff Denver's FlyteCo Brewing opened their first location in 2019.  Although Colorado has no shortage of breweries, owners Morgan O'Sullivan and Jason Slingsby knows there's always room for more great places to grab a beer.  Their second location will open soon, in a decommissioned air control tower.  O'Sullivan and Slingsby want visitors to see FlyteCo as their own Cheers.  Where the bartenders know your name and have a beer ready for you when you walk in.  Norrrrm!  If getting to know people isn't your thing then maybe your and your beer can spend some quality time at the on-site mini golf or bowling. If the air traffic control tower didn't give it away, the brewery has an aviation theme.  Two of the three owners are pilots.  In addition to drop-in fishing trips (I'm so jealous) they've even flown to Western Colorado to pick up hops fresh from the farm and back to the brewery to get them in a beer in a little over an hour.  How's that for freshness? The guys knew the way to our hearts and sent us a sample of their Tipsy Nipper, a stellar Belgian Saison.  We sample Heading 270 West Coast IPA and Ski Plane Stout as well.  We reminisced on the old days of 2014 when saisons were cool and praise the versatility of the style while pondering if getting crazy with them might make them cool again.  We even come up with a collab, look for Milky Disco DDH LactoGlitter Saison coming soon.
