We talk about why Shani decided to study at De Montfort and her inspiring lectures Helen Dunn and Pippa Clarkson- what a difference it makes when your taught by someone who has come from industry!Shani talks us through her career history as she climbed the ladder from a visual merch role at Topshop right through to a Senior Buyer level at Superdry. Shani's story is a real rollercoaster ride of different retailers departments and demands, as we hear all about the different buying structures she has worked within, how to manage up & down when you land that first promotion, and how to navigate working for a company that does not have any processes! Friends of the Rosary,Today, Monday of the Second Week of Easter, a day after Divine Mercy Sunday, we celebrate the memorial of St. Louis-Marie de Montfort, a 17th-century French saint revered for his intense devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and the Virgin Mary, especially through the Rosary.St. Louis-Marie wrote the prayer of entrustment to Our Lady, “Totus Tuus ego sum,” which means, “I am all yours.” The late Pope John Paul II took the phrase “Totus Tuus” as his episcopal motto. The saint manifested a love for the poor while he was at school and joined a society of young men who ministered to the poor and the sick on school holidays. When he was 19, he walked 130 miles to Paris to study theology, giving all he had to the poor he met along the way, and made a vow to live solely on alms. With a gift for preaching, he often drew crowds of thousands to hear his sermons in which he encouraged frequent communion and devotion to Mary.He was poisoned by Jansenists, a heretical movement within the Church that believed in absolute Predestination, in which only a chosen few are saved, and the rest damned. He wrote two masterpieces of Marian piety, “The Secret of the Rosary” and “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin,” which he correctly prophesied would be hidden by the devil for a time. The “True Devotion” was discovered 200 years after his death. One year before his death, St. Louis-Marie founded two congregations: the Daughters of Divine Wisdom, which cared for the sick in hospitals and educated poor girls, and the Company of Mary, a missionary order devoted to preaching and spreading devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New York• April 28, 2025, Today's Rosary on YouTube | Daily broadcast at 7:30 pm ET

In this episode, Charlie Higson gets properly acquainted with the great knight and statesman, Simon De Montfort, who started out originally as one of Henry III's chief supporters but became increasingly enraged by how badly he thought Henry was running the country.Inevitably this led to wars and power struggles as de Montfort ended up leading the opposition to Henry as head of the baronial forces, trying to depose him, or at least curb his powers. It's a fascinating story and to help Charlie through the slings and arrows, he welcomes back Dr Sophie Therese Ambler, author of The Song of Simon de Montfort: The Life and Death of a Medieval Revolutionary Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Uncover the powerful legacy of Saint Louis de Montfort—his radical devotion to Mary, his visionary missions, and his unwavering faith in the face of opposition. Simon de Montfort's body was horribly mutilated and dismembered after his defeat at 1265's fateful Battle of Evesham, during the Second Barons' War. The medieval rebel leader's head and testicles were sent to the wife of one of his killers, while his butchered hands and feet were spread far and wide across Britain. Historian Sophie Thérèse Ambler explains to David Musgrove why he met such a grisly end. Katie Normington, vice-chancellor and CEO of De Montfort University, has proved to be adept at both leading by example and change management. Not only did she join the Leicester institution during Covid amid the longest lockdown in the UK, but in the three years she has led the institution she has overseen large-scale curriculum reform. De Montfort has moved most of its undergraduate and postgraduate courses from traditional curriculum structure to block plan, with significant boosts in student satisfaction. The way that Normington talks about leadership demonstrates the very qualities she champions: clear strategic direction, communication and empowering others to lean into their strengths. She is a past winner of a Times Higher Education leadership and development award. This conversation covers her journey from aspiring ballet dancer to university head, early leadership challenges, and why higher education needs bold leaders, courage, creativity and agility as it faces global challenges.
The Spirituality of St. Louis de Montfort Produces the Biography of the Saint When we speak of the lives of the saints, regularly we speak of the works of the saints, or the events within their life, or their prayers or hymns. That is fine, but in doing so, it is incomplete. In speaking about the saints, we think of the saint who produced a spirituality. For example, for Saint Louis de Montfort, we read his books and spiritual treasures. He composed these writings, and he left them to us. The implication is the life of the saint produced the spirituality. This is not un-true, but it is a half-truth. Hear more about St. Louis de Montfort on his Feast Day. Understand more about the man and the saint and his spirituality, and the implications for our Spiritual Life. ----------------------------------- Image: St. Louis de Montfort statue at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Island The statue is a copy of the statue that appears in the Vatican, originally revealed on the day of Montfort's canonization.

On episode #163, I spoke with the Fr. Timothy Danaher, OP, about effective evangelization.During our conversation, we covered:- De Montfort and his criticism of poor preaching- The role of the priest- The role of the lay faithful regarding preaching- And much more...Biography:Fr. Timothy Danaher, O.P. grew up in Steubenville, OH, where he attended Franciscan University, studying American Literature and Theology. He is a Dominican friar and was ordained in 2018 in Washington D.C. after graduate studies and ministry focused on hospital and Hispanic settings. Before arriving at AQ, he served for three years at St. Patrick's Church in Philadelphia, PA. His favorite color is blue. Quotes:“But the words that divine Wisdom communicates are not just ordinary, natural, human words; they are divine, "truly the words of God."They are powerful, touching, piercing words, "sharper than a two-edged sword," words that go from the heart of the one through whom he speaks straight to the heart of the lis. tener. Solomon is referring to this gift of Wisdom he himself had received when he said that God gave him the grace to speak according to the feelings of his heart. These are the words which our Lord promised to his apostles, "I will give you an eloquence and a wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist."How few preachers there are today who possess this most wonderful gift of eloquence and who can say with St. Paul, "We preach the wisdom of God." Most of them speak according to the natural light of their minds, or from what they have taken from books. They do not speak under the impulse of divine Wisdom or from a heart filled to overflowing with wisdom. That is why in these times we see so few conversions made through preaching. If a preacher had truly received from Eternal Wisdom this gift of eloquence, his listeners would hardly be able to resist his words, as happened in the early days of the Church: "They could not resist the wisdom and the Spirit speaking in him." Such a preacher would speak with so much unction and such authority that his words could never be ineffectual and void.” St. Louis Marie de MontfortOur Sponsors:This is a Good Catholic Podcast. St. Louis de Montfort's Hymns on the Sorrowful Passion A quick note about the hour. In the Christian Tradition, Jesus breathes His last on The Cross at 3 PM on Good Friday. That is the ninth hour of the day. 3PM is often reflected upon. What many Christians do not reflect upon as often are the other hours. When scripture speaks of the Passion of the Lord, and its events, they are spoken about in a liturgical way. The Lord is led forth at the 3rd hour (9:00 AM), nailed to The Cross at the 6th hour (noon) and dies at the ninth hour (3PM). These are all the traditional hours of prayer. The Church prays at these hours as Jesus completes our prayer with His self-giving. Listen more to the Homily. St. Louis' Hymns on the Events of the Passion Praying the Stations of the Cross is a Lenten devotion. This audio does not pray the stations as one is normally accustomed to praying. However, the media engages the stations. One of the treasures St. Louis de Montfort left the Church are a collection of Hymns. Among these hymns is a mediation in song of the events of the Passion. One for every day of the week. With an eighth hymn dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows at the foot of The Cross. The hymns will be read in excerpts. If you have the Hymns book, which we encourage each Queen of All Hearts members to obtain, they are Hymns #67 through #74. Hear more in the Conference. Pilgrimages: Their Impact on Saint Louis de Montfort's and Our Spiritual Life On this day the Church celebrates Saint Louis de Montfort. This conference was given at a Shrine. Shrines were important to Fr. de Montfort. That fact is largely neglected when one speaks about him. One cannot fully understand Fr. de Montfort and his mission without understanding what pilgrimages mean to him. Pilgrimage is largely misunderstood by the world today, especially in the United States. On Thanksgiving we celebrate the day and the pilgrims but disconnect the idea from pilgrimages. Understand what a pilgrimage really is. Understand how it impacts your Spiritual Life. Appreciate the impact of a Pilgrimage. Friends of the Rosary: Today, April 28th, the Universal Church celebrates the memorial day of Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort, a 17th-century saint who is revered for his intense devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, especially through the Holy Rosary. "Mary is the safest, easiest, shortest, and most perfect way of approaching Jesus," he wrote. In this spirituality, he preached the total consecration to Jesus through Mary and the fidelity to the Cross. He wrote: "The Incarnation of the Word is for him the absolute central reality." Born in Montfort, Brittany (France), in 1673, this priest and poet took the name Marie at his confirmation. St. Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort formulated the prayer of entrustment to Our Lady, "Totus Tuus ego sum," which means, "I am all yours." The late Pope John Paul II took the phrase "Totus Tuus" as his episcopal motto. Another motto of this saint was "God Alone", repeated over 150 times in his writings. A gifted preacher, he often drew crowds of thousands to hear his sermons in which he encouraged frequent communion (not the custom then) and devotion to Mary. But he also met with opposition, especially from the Jansenists, a heretical movement within the Church that believed in absolute Predestination, in which only a chosen few are saved, and the rest damned. Much of France was influenced by Jansenism, including many bishops, who banished St. Loius Marie from preaching in their dioceses. He was even poisoned by Jansenists in La Rochelle, but survived, though he suffered ill health after. While recuperating from the effects of the poisoning, he wrote the masterpiece of Marian piety, "True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin," which correctly prophesied it would be hidden by the devil for a time. His seminal work was discovered 200 years after his death. The book became a classic explanation of Marian's devotion and the basis for the consecration to Mary. Louis Marie de Montfort also wrote another masterpiece, The Secret of the Rosary. [PDF, free Download] He founded the Missionaries of the Company of Mary (for priests and brothers) and the Daughters of Divine Wisdom, who cared especially for the sick in hospitals and the education of poor girls. On this special day, we will celebrate at 7:00 pm in St. Catherine of Siena Parish, in Greenwich, Connecticut, a Holy Mass for the eternal rest of María Blanca Gonzalez de Amigot, Blanki. At 6:30 pm it will take place the Holy Rosary – today the Sorrowful Mysteries. María Blanca went to the Father on October 28, 2021, eighteen months ago today. The Amigot Gonzalez family invites everyone to the event. Saints du jour 2023-04-28 Saint Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort et Saint Pierre Chanel by Radio Maria France
Saint Louis Mary de Montfort's life is inseparable from his efforts to promote genuine devotion to Mary, the mother of Jesus and mother of the church. Totus tuus (completely yours) was Louis's personal motto. Born in the Breton village of Montfort, close to Rennes (France), as an adult Louis identified himself by the place of his baptism instead of his family name, Grignion. Educated by Jesuits, he was considered intelligent, studious, deeply religious, artistic and somewhat shy by most of his teachers. April 28: Saint Louis Grignion de Montfort, Priest 1673–1716 Optional Memorial; Liturgical Color: White Patron Saint of preachers Intensely in love with God, his flame burned hot but not long The English writer Graham Greene grew up Anglican with the typical anti-Catholic biases of his twentieth-century generation. One of those biases firmly held that Catholics worshipped the Virgin Mary and thus deflected toward Christ's mother the glory due to Him alone. But when Greene started dating an educated Catholic girl, she taught him that Catholics rendered latria (worship) to God, dulia (praise) to the saints, and hyperdulia (an abundance of praise) to Mary. It made sense. Worship is given to God alone. Praise is given to the saints. And Mary is rendered a unique intensity of praise in recognition of her unique role in salvation history. Graham was convinced. For these and other reasons, he entered the Church. He went on to become a well-known novelist on Catholic themes, in part because a teenage girl he once dated knew some basic theology. Throughout the centuries since the Reformation, Catholics have been accused of granting to Mary what is due only to God. This false accusation is more apparent than real. But its appearance sometimes even bothers Catholics. As a young man, the future Pope Saint John Paul II wondered whether he gave Mary too central a role in his devotions, prayer, and reading. But the writings of today's saint, Louis de Montfort, helped the young Pole place Marian devotion in its wider theological context. Pope Saint John Paul II routinely gave thanks to Saint Louis de Montfort's book, True Devotion to Mary, for helping him develop a more mature Marian spirituality. The Pope even borrowed from de Montfort the Latin Totus Tuus as his papal motto. De Montfort had written to the Virgin, “I am all yours, and all that is mine belongs to you.” When we honor Mary, Mary honors God along with us. Louis Grignion de Montfort was never not in love with God. He was one of eighteen children born to his parents. Eleven of them are saints—Louis and ten of his siblings who died as babies shortly after their baptisms. Even as a child, Louis was devoted to prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. He studied under the Jesuits as a teen and then attended theology courses at St. Sulpice in Paris. He was ordained a priest at the age of twenty-seven. He at first wanted to become a missionary, like so many ardent French priests of his time. But a spiritual director advised against it, and Louis became a hospital chaplain, preached missions, and served as a confessor. Father Louis was interpersonally awkward and ardent to the point of making others uncomfortable, all of which confined his priestly ministry to non-traditional forums. He also lived radical poverty, owning nothing, carrying no money, and even abandoning his family name, Grignion, to be known only by his town, Montfort. Louis de Montfort's intense devotional life, theatrical preaching style, moral uprightness, and visions of Mary, the angels and satan, were interpreted as holy foolishness by many in the Church who wished him ill. The Jansenists, an ultra-rigorist branch of the French Church, particularly despised his preaching on God's love and mercy. Saint Louis' itinerant life ended due to physical exhaustion at the young age of forty-three. He practiced such extreme physical penances that his body was well prepared for the grave when he died. He was a priest only sixteen years. It is possible that his life and writings did more good for future ages than they did for his own. His writings on Mary, in particular, were rediscovered and published in the nineteenth century, leading to his canonization in 1947 and to his wide fame in the Church. Our saint died with a statue of the Virgin Mary in one arm and a crucifix given him by the Pope in the other arm. He felt attacked by the devil in his last agony and yelled at him, “You attack me in vain. I stand between Jesus and Mary. I have finished my course. I shall sin no more.” He was buried, per his request, under an altar dedicated to his Lady…to Our Lady. Saint Louis de Montfort, we ask your intercession before God in Heaven to inflame in all hearts a fire that burns like yours with love for the Holy Trinity. Help all who read your works to profit from their wisdom and so grow closer to God's mother.

St. Louis de Montfort: Apostle of the Cross Often Christians take sound bites or certain events from the life of a saint and focus on that event without appreciating the fullness of grace the Lord gave to the holy man or women. In today's world, St. Louis de Montfort is often referred to as the Consecration Saint. And while it is true, many Christians do not know about the fuller life of this holy man. When Montfort died, he was known as The Apostle of the Cross and the Apostle of the Rosary (in that order). On the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, this conference was held to kick off the yearlong celebration of St. Louis de Montfort's life. Without understanding his title of Apostle of the Cross, and his understanding of the Mystery of the Cross, there is no understanding his devotion to Mary. There is no understanding of his beautiful writings on Consecration. In his writings, Montfort will tell us that the Cross is the subject of adoration . . . Our Lady is not. Note the difference. Adoration is given to Jesus. But why the Cross? Because the Cross is soaked with the blood of Jesus. Listen to this Conference about St. Louis de Montfort: Apostle of the Cross. Gain insights about the man who would go on to write and author spirituality texts about Our Lord and Our Lady.
St. Louis de Montfort's True Devotion to Mary has a secret portion that most Catholics aren't familiar with. De Montfort described in the pages of his masterpiece a method for the reception of Holy Communion which is, especially for the sinner, an immense grace.
