Former child actor turned Grammy-winning producer Dennis Scott, recounts his journey from auditioning for commercials with dyed black hair to producing hit albums for Sesame Street and learning to let the musicians do their thing. With a start on Broadway at just seven years old, Dennis quickly learned what it takes to make it in the business. After his time as a child actor, he joined the New Christie Minstrels, a popular folk group, and began writing songs. Dennis eventually became a powerhouse producer and songwriter in the music industry, working with some of the biggest names out there. With his vast experience and knowledge, Dennis is sure to offer invaluable advice for aspiring musicians. This episode is sponsored by: Beck's ShoesIn this episode:The Impact of Mr. RogersThe Role of a ProducerStaying Grounded in the Midst of FameHumble Beginnings Bio:Two-time Grammy Award-winning songwriter/producer/writer DENNIS SCOTT has left no corner of the children's music industry unexplored. His songs have been performed by such diverse artists as Faith Hill, Ray Charles, Sugarland, Alison Krauss, The Muppets, Amy Grant, CeCe Winans, Trisha Yearwood, Elmo, Charlie Daniels Band, Shari Lewis, Crystal Gayle, Roberta Flack, Ricky Skaggs, and many others.Dennis is also the recipient of two Emmys, a Parent's Choice Award, and a Telly. You can hear his work on television, radio, audiobooks, home videos, and stage productions such as "Clifford the Big Red Dog," "Sesame Street Live," and "The Magic School Bus."Dennis began his entertainment career at the age of 7 as an actor on Broadway. As an adult, he toured with the New Christy Minstrels (playing upright bass and singing). His novelty tune "Captain Kirk's Disco Trek" led to his first serious foray into children's music and a Grammy for "Sesame Country." He has had nonstop assignments since then.Dennis has served a music director for several children's TV shows, including the PBS series "Noddy" and, most recently, "BJ's Teddy Bear Club" which airs on TBN and just earned him his second Emmy award. His album, "Songs From the Neighborhood - the Music of Mister Rogers" won last year's Grammy award as Best Musical Recording for Children.Recently Dennis fulfilled his own childhood dream by spearheading a Beatles tribute band called The WannaBeatles. The band has grown in popularity and was even nominated for a Grammy in the spoken word category for an audiobook collection of interviews with Beatles fans called, "Fab Fan Memories - The Beatles Bond."When your childhood heroes are people like Danny Kaye, Jack Benny and Jerry Lewis, you can't help but have a silly side to you. Creating and producing music, particularly children's music, allows me to be as silly and creative as I want to be. And playing in a Beatles band makes me feel like a rock star. The Magic just went 3-0 on this homestand. The math for the play-in isn't great for Orlando because Chicago, Toronto, and Atlanta keep winning just enough. It's a 2% chance. That's OK though, because we're playing well and we'll get into April still technically in the play-in hunt. Orlando has won 10 games more than last season already. Win-loss wise, we're the best 5th-worst team in the last 35 years of the league's history. That's progress. It's OK if the Magic leap over Portland, Indy, and the Wizards in the standings if that means we finish the season on a high note with our young guys. 5th-best lottery odds are great, 8th-best isn't a disaster either despite what the pro-tanking crowd moans about. Dennis Scott got inducted as the 12th member of the Orlando Magic Hall of Fame. Paolo Banchero should unanimously win the Rookie of the Year award. That and much more. #LetsGoMagic Warning: Adult Language

For the first time you'll hear both celebrities and everyday people tell their stories of how Mister Rogers affected them and, in some cases, even saved their lives. As incredible as it may sound, Fred Rogers personally answered every letter he received. Hearing his words read aloud and the heartfelt gratitude from people who experienced his kindness firsthand make this a one-of-a-kind audio presentation. Hosted by beloved TV personality Tom Bergeron, it will touch you and help you believe, as Fred Rogers did, that all of us are special. This spoken word collection includes special appearances by Kellie Pickler, The Cowsills, Lee Greenwood, Jim Brickman and Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr. It's seventy-two minutes of fun and memories. It also includes a rare interview with David Newell, the "Speedy Delivery" Man from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood Produced by our guest on this special episode, two time Grammy and Emmy winner, Dennis Scott Young Dennis Scott at the Concord Thank You Mister Rogers Web Site https://thankyoumisterrogers.com/ Thank you for joining us here this week in the neighborhood. On the latest episode of the Rex Chapman show with Josh Hopkins, the guys are joined by Mr Chibbs himself, Kenny Anderson. One of the most celebrated high school players there ever was, and now the Head Coach at Fisk University, Kenny has always been dedicated to basketball and it has taken him a long way from Queens. Since finishing his NBA career, the story of Mr. Chibbs has been celebrated for both the basketball success as well as dark moments that have made him the person he is today. 2:00 - NBA Playoff Preview 17:00 - While Rex was connected to Kenny through their mutual friend Sam Bowie, Rex asks Josh, when was the first time he had heard of Kenny Anderson? 20:00 - What was it like being the number one basketball player in the country? Without social media, Kenny talked about being in every newspaper and magazine and word traveled fast outside of New York City. 24:00 - How Bobby Cremins was able to convince Kenny, and his mother, to go to Georgia Tech and why it was such a great fit for him. 27:30 - Rex and Kenny reflect on how the NBA has changed since they played, with the emphasis on handle, pick and roll and 3-point shooting. Kenny calls it like it is, it's a softer game since he played. 30:00 - How Kenny is trying to change the culture of Fisk Basketball, and he really feels like he belongs at a small school that has been known historically for its academics. 31:30 - Kenny admits he had to harbor the darkness in his life because he was focused on basketball and for providing for his mother. 35:00 - His infamous "Welcome to the NBA" moment was in his rookie season with the Nets. He had been riding the bench after being the best player every time the ball was tipped since he was 15 years old. 38:00 - How Kenny has been taking care of himself in the last couple years since suffering a stroke. After feeling scared and vulnerable, he knew he had to make a few positive changes and put a fresh perspective on his life. 40:30 - How tough of a decision it was for Kenny to leave Georgia Tech after just two seasons. Playing with Dennis Scott and Brian Oliver, and making the Final Four in his freshman year, Kenny said it was some of the best times in his life. 43:30 - What is next for Kenny as he's transitioned into the next phase of his life. It's so important for him to have these kids as an outlet to share his story and his passion for the game of basketball. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
