Long before we started this podcast, back in 2014, we started DIGMI DISCUSSIONS, a concept where we would sit down and interview some of the biggest names in sports, fashion and pop culture. 7 years ago this week, we headed down to Tampa, Florida to catch up with my former minor league roommate, Major League Baseball & Toronto Blue Jays superstar, Jose Bautista. Nicholson, a native of Corona California, talks about growing up on the west coast and how the love for sports in childhood days led him to a life education both in the classroom and on the baseball diamond. A graduate of Loyola Marymount University, he followed in his fathers footsteps and Nicholson began a career in high school education, where he has spent 37 years at Loyola High School. In the most prestigious collegiate baseball league in the country, Nicholson has been part of the Orleans Firebirds Organization for 20 years, starting as the teams pitching coach and eventually taking over as their manager in 2005. During his tenure, he has coached hundreds of the most talented collegiate baseball players in the country, while also mentoring some of the brightest young coaches in the game. On Digmi Discussion Interview #24 - we catch up with mixed martial artist, entrepreneur and motivational content creator, Eddie “Truck” Gordon. Eddie, a native of Jamaica and Long Island New York resident, was a standout high school football player, who’s original goal was to play in the NFL. Attending Fordham University and taking advantage of a great education, Eddie was able to pivot into a career in finance, joining the corporate world, when a career in the gridiron no longer was an option. It was in the corporate world where Eddie enjoyed professional and financial success, but was leading an unhealthy lifestyle. At nearly 300 lbs, Eddie knew he had to make a drastic change. During a trip with friends, Eddie watched a UFC fight on t.v., and immediately committed to a new lifestyle of health, training and a career. With a total shift in mindset, Eddie left his corporate office for the octagon, beginning a career in mixed martial arts that would take him to compete in the UFC and the winner of The Ultimate Fighter. On Digmi Discussion Interview #23, we catch up with former Major League Baseball player, entrepreneur and health & fitness guru, Cory Aldridge. Cory, a native of Abilene, Texas, grew up athletic family, with his father playing professional football. And although Cory showed the same promise on the gridiron, it was his grandfather who was a respected baseball coach, that Cory to recognize his talents on the diamond. After choosing baseball over football, Cory dominated at the high school and travel/tournament level, gaining the attention of Major League scouts. As a 17 year old, Cory was selected in the 4th round by the Atlanta Braves in the 1997 Major League Baseball amateur draft…leading to an 18 year professional baseball career. Listen to Cory talk about his journey from small town Texas boy, to working his way up the minor league ladder all the way to Atlanta. On Digmi Discussion Interview #22 - we catch up with former professional baseball player, University Of Miami Alum and current president of the sports & entertainment division of Global Wealth Management - Richard Giannotti Richard, a native of south Florida ( who also spent part of his childhood days in the northeast) was a standout athlete, playing football, baseball and what many of us don’t know, hockey. But it was baseball that earned his love and he became a standout high school player, eventually earning a scholarship to play for the Hurricanes of the University of Miami. During his time at Miami, Richard excelled in both the classroom and the baseball diamond, studying finance and helping lead his team to the College World Series. His success on the field eventually caught the eye of professional baseball scouts, eventually being drafted by the Anaheim Angels. Always business savvy, Richard helped to create his own fashion brand, Bubucheek, a project that he proudly gives credit to him learning valuable life lessons in business, branding and personal partnerships. That valuable experience help lead him to his current position at Global Wealth Management - where he now advises and directs his clients, many of which are pro-athletes, on how to better save, protect and invest their finances. On Digmi Discussion Interview #21, we introduce you to former Major League Baseball pLayer and current scout for the Miami Marlins, Clint Robinson Clint a native of Arkansas, was a standout college baseball player at Troy University, eventually becoming a 25th round draft selection by the Kansas City Royals. With no guarantees of ever reaching the big leagues, Clint had to prove himself every step of the minor league ladder. And prove himself he did. With All-Star selection, batting titles and a Triple Crown award, the Royals and other Major League teams had not choice but to notice his ability to hit, but most importantly persevere. Clint not only made it to “the show” but did it 3 times with the Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers and most notably the Washington Nationals; having the opportunity to play with and against some of the best players in the game. Following his recent retirement, Clint took on a position of scout with the Miami Marlins, where he now evaluates players trying to accomplish the same goal he achieved. Hear Clint talk about his journey to the Major leagues, what is was like getting his first big league hit, why he believes in the guy in the tie and what it meant to him to be the first professional athlete to sign with the Digmi brand, what its like working for an organization run by Derek Jeter and shares some wise words of perseverance for all those pursuing their dreams. DIGMI DISCUSSION interview #20 with former Seton Hall University Baseball All-American, Chicago Cubs draft pick and current Assistant Coach at New Jersey Institute of Technology, Giuseppe Papaccio. "HoJo" was part of the iconic 1986 New York Mets World Series Championship, developing into one of the games best switch hitters. "HoJo" went on to play 13 big league seasons where he became a 2X All-Star, 2X World Series Champion and 3X member of the 30/30 Club (30 Home Runs & 30 Stolen Bases). Listen to him share his experiences playing with the likes of superstars Darryl Strawberry, Doc Gooden and Gary Carter; and what it was like winning in the Big Apple. Currently, he is the Triple-A hitting coach for the Texas Rangers, where he challenges his players to be 1% better every day.
