On this week's episode, we take a look at the future of prospects signing extensions with a looming lockout through the lens of new deals for Konnor Griffin (rumored nine-year, $140 million with the Pirates) Cole Emerson (eight-year, $95 million with the Mariners) and Cooper Pratt (eight-year, $50.75 million with the Brewers.) From there, we discuss the Blue Jays adding Patrick Corbin, and what it means for their rotation, Ozzie Guillen's jersey retirement by the White Sox, and Trevor Bauer returning to the US with the Long Island Ducks.
Today's show highlights the Mets' offensive woes and the Yankees home opener, followed by audio of Tiger Woods' arrest and scores from the Rangers, Devils, and Rutgers. We talk Yankees pitching dominance, which local athletes are allowed to be elitist, and Frank the Tank's meltdown after another Mets loss in San Francisco. We then cover Trevor Bauer joining the Long Island Ducks, vintage Eddie Coleman audio, and Dan Hurley's "chest bump" explanation for his referee confrontation. Also, Boomer's holiday sports minute nostalgia, Ann Liguori's crossword appearance, Austin Reaves' fan incident, and a look back at an odd term for "Moment of the Day."
Could he play in the big leagues again?
Trevor Bauer signs with the Long Island Ducks, sparking a discussion on his MLB exit and Boomer's suspicion that the story doesn't add up. C-Lo with another Mets loss in San Francisco defined by offensive struggles, Carlos Mendoza's reaction, and David Peterson's rough night. Also, vintage audio of Eddie Coleman's frustration with bickering Mets/Yanks fans, Jack Hughes' big performance in a Devils win, and Dan Hurley's "chest bump" explanation for a referee confrontation.
The A-Team is back for Episode 138 of Unsportsmanlike Conduct as Farace and Tim hold it down, with Anthony officially in the mix as well — which means things will stay on track… until they don't. This is one of those weeks where the sports world didn't explode, but everything is quietly building toward something bigger, and those are usually the weeks where the best arguments happen.Naturally, we start in the NFL, where the Raiders managed to confuse everybody by signing Kirk Cousins while also holding the No. 1 overall pick. So now they've got a veteran quarterback and the top selection in the draft, which sounds like a plan until you try to figure out what the plan actually is. Are they trying to compete now? Draft their future? Do both at the same time? Even Mark Davis basically admitted they've been in this position before and it didn't go great, so this feels like one of those moves that everyone talks themselves into… right up until it blows up.From there, the focus shifts to Philadelphia, where the Eagles are sitting at a real crossroads with Jalen Hurts. The offense stalled at times last season, the passing game didn't look right, and A.J. Brown's frustration wasn't exactly subtle. Now the question is whether this is just a bump in the road or the beginning of something bigger, because in the NFL, tension like that doesn't just disappear — it usually gets louder. The league also added some off-field headlines, including Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua stepping away for rehab ahead of OTAs. It's being framed as personal growth, which is great — but from a football standpoint, it still leaves a pretty big question mark for a team that relies on him heavily.Over in the NBA, LeBron casually joked that he might've forced his way out of Memphis if they had landed the No. 1 pick back in 2003, which is funny until you realize that today, that wouldn't even be shocking. At the same time, Victor Wembanyama continues to look like something straight out of a video game, stacking dominant performances and pushing himself into the MVP conversation while the Spurs quietly turn into a real problem.Baseball, of course, couldn't stay normal either. Trevor Bauer is back stateside with the Long Island Ducks, trying to pitch his way back into the majors, which brings plenty of opinions with it. Meanwhile, MLB's ABS challenge system already gave us a game-ending overturned call, because apparently even the last out of a game now needs a second opinion. And then there's Tiger Woods. Body cam footage from his DUI arrest surfaced this week, and a judge has approved his request to seek treatment abroad. It's a heavy story, one that goes beyond sports, but it's also one of the biggest headlines in the entire world right now — and impossible to ignore. So Episode 138 has everything: NFL teams trying to convince you they have a plan, the Eagles trying to convince you they're fine, the NBA continuing to blur the line between reality and video game stats, baseball experimenting in real time, and a Tiger Woods story that reminds you how fast things can shift.Farace and Tim are locked in as always, Anthony's in the mix, and by the end of this one, somebody is definitely going to double down on a take they probably shouldn't.Business as usual.

A guy Gio knows in relation to the Vikings said they are taking JJ McCarthy with their first pick. Boomer said he could see the Broncos taking a chance on Zach Wilson. Boomer thinks Michael Penix is really interesting for this draft. Jerry is here for another update and starts with Ron Darling from our show on opening day saying this is a playoff team, and then the booth yesterday saying they are at ‘rock bottom'. But the Mets did win game 2 of the doubleheader yesterday. Carlos Mendoza was excited to get his first win as Mets manager. Jackie Bradley Jr has signed with the Long Island Ducks, which Gio called, ‘rock bottom'. The Knicks beat the Kings but Julius Randle's season is over as he's having shoulder surgery. In the final segment of the hour, with the Yankees home opener happening today, Stan's sent us some t-shirts. They also sent over Stan's women's panties. Gio remembers people wearing panties on their face as a Covid mask.
Hour 1 Today is the home opener for the Yankees in the Bronx. Gio is decked out in Knicks gear as they got a great comeback win last night. They did get bad news as well, with Julius Randle opting for season ending shoulder surgery. Gio said the Mets still suck offensively, even though Gary Cohen sounded excited with their win in game 2. Jerry is here for his first update of the day but first, Stan's sent us some t-shirts since it's the Yankees home opener. Jerry has sound from the Knicks win over the Kings last night. Tom Thibodeau talked about Julius Randle opting for season ending shoulder surgery. The Mets went up 3-0 in game 1, but then didn't get another hit and lost 6-3. They did win game 2, but it took seven innings to get a hit. The A's are heading to Sacramento and the owner is excited to see Aaron Judge hitting HRs in the minor league park. In the final segment of the hour, the Yankees head into the home opener today at 6-1. There's a picture of Derrick Rose that went viral and Gio couldn't figure out why. OG Anunoby was cleared for contact which is great news after the Julius Randle bad news. Hour 2 We came out of a commercial with ‘In Bloom' by Nirvana. Today is 30 years since we lost Kurt Cobain. Gio loved Nirvana and talked about going in AOL chat rooms to talk about playing bass. Gio got negative feedback in those chat rooms about which bass players he liked. Boomer wonders what happened to MySpace. Gio remembers having to have top 5 friends there. Boomer sent Al a video of Jerry Seinfeld talking about hating everything about family vacations. Gio said he and his family are going to Disney next year, and it won't be fun for him but it will be for the kids, so it's a sacrifice. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the Knicks beating the Kings with Kevin Harlan on the call. Seton Hall beat Indiana State University to win the NIT. Pete Alonso hit a HR in game 2 to tie it in the bottom of the ninth to help the Mets get their first win. The attorney for Rashee Rice said he wasn't running from the accident. In the final segment of the hour, we don't know the lineup yet for today's Yankees home opener. A caller wants to know what Boomer & Gio are like off the air. Hour 3 A guy Gio knows in relation to the Vikings said they are taking JJ McCarthy with their first pick. Boomer said he could see the Broncos taking a chance on Zach Wilson. Boomer thinks Michael Penix is really interesting for this draft. He has blocked a ton of people on social media and we just want him to pitch well. Tomorrow is Boomer's son, Gunnar's, 33rd birthday. The Governor of NY got the MTA to not charge the NYC Marathon $750K for lost toll revenues. The Garden will be rocking with the Knicks and Rangers heading into the playoffs. Spike Lee was wearing some sort of Knicks puffy vest. Julius Randle is having season ending surgery. Boomer still thinks they can get to the finals without him. Gio said the Knicks are ‘unkillable', much like BT thought the Jets were. Jerry returns for his final update of the week, and he has audio of Sgt Slaughter on with BT and Sal yesterday. Tommy Lugauer was angry with Jeff McNeil, ‘swing a bat!!' Carlos Mendoza said they have too many good hitters for this to go on much longer. The Knicks came back from down 21 to beat the Kings. Seton Hall beat Indiana State to win the NIT. The Moment of The Day involves Al not being able to name one player in the history of the Sacramento Kings. In the final segment of the week, Gio has some headlines and wants us to pick out the real one. A mother and daughter were arrested for selling illegal butt injections. Breaking news as Norby Williamson is out at ESPN after 40 years. This is the guy Pat McAfee called out.
Daniel Murphy will be at Citi Field to throw out the first pitch to his son Noah this afternoon and before that he sat down with Pat McCarthy to recap a career of baseball highlights with many coming in New York both for the Mets and this year with the Long Island Ducks.

There's assuredly a good newsletter post in this, but too bad, because the ol' brain is rattled by being reminded that Edgardo Alfonzo played 12 games for the 2006 Blue Jays (after he'd already been released that year by the Angels)… and after three weeks, got released from Toronto. Fonzie then went to Bridgeport, had his contract purchased by the Mets… and never made it back to Queens, playing 42 games for Triple-A Norfolk. The way Alfonzo went after that? He played for the 2007 and 2008 Long Island Ducks, the 2008 Tigres de Quintana Roo, the 2009 Yomiuri Giants, and finally the Newark Bears in their last season, 2010 — a team managed by Tim Raines that included Elijah Dukes, Carl Everett, Nook Logan, Scott Spiezio, and Daryle Ward. And they had Armando Benitez striking out 52 hitters in 34.2 innings for the best K/9 rate in the Atlantic League. How the heck did that team finish in last place? This is a public episode.
