Oui. Today’s guest is filmmaker Tony Giglio, and our conversation revolves around his 2019 film DOOM: ANNIHILATION which he wrote and directed. Unlike the 2005 DOOM movie starring The Rock, this newer adaptation of the infamous and influential ego shooter video game by id Software was made on a very small budget, and it’s not a sequel or remake, but basically a new take on the story of a marines team fighting a horde of demons which infiltrated a space station on Phobos, one of the moons of Mars. DOOM: ANNIHILATION is a well-made, fun action film which finds a good… The post #37 – “You're Never Going to Meet Up with Expectations”: Director/Writer Tony Giglio on His Video Game Adaptation DOOM: ANNIHILATION appeared first on Talking Pictures.

fWotD Episode 2410: Doom (1993 video game) Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of the featured Wikipedia article every day.The featured article for Sunday, 10 December 2023 is Doom (1993 video game).Doom is a first-person shooter game developed and published by id Software. Released on December 10, 1993, for DOS, it is the first installment in the Doom franchise. The player assumes the role of a space marine, later unofficially referred to as Doomguy, fighting through hordes of undead humans and invading demons. The game begins on the moons of Mars and finishes in hell, with the player traversing each level to find its exit or defeat its final boss. It is an early example of 3D graphics in video games, and has enemies and objects as 2D images, a technique sometimes referred to as 2.5D graphics.Doom was the third major independent release by id Software, after Commander Keen (1990–1991) and Wolfenstein 3D (1992). In May 1992, id started developing a darker game focused on fighting demons with technology, using a new 3D game engine from the lead programmer, John Carmack. The designer Tom Hall initially wrote a science fiction plot, but he and most of the story were removed from the project, with the final game featuring an action-heavy design by John Romero and Sandy Petersen. Id published Doom as a set of three episodes under the shareware model, marketing the full game by releasing the first episode free. A retail version with an additional episode was published in 1995 by GT Interactive as The Ultimate Doom.Doom was a critical and commercial success, earning a reputation as one of the best and most influential games of all time. It sold an estimated 3.5 million copies by 1999, and up to 20 million people are estimated to have played it within two years of launch. It has been termed the "father" of first-person shooters and is regarded as one of the most important games in the genre. It has been cited by video game historians as shifting the direction and public perception of the medium as a whole, as well as sparking the rise of online games and communities. It led to an array of imitators and clones, as well as a robust modding scene and the birth of speedrunning as a community. Its high level of graphic violence led to controversy from a range of groups. Doom has been ported to a variety of platforms both officially and unofficially and has been followed by several games in the series, including Doom II (1994), Doom 3 (2004), Doom (2016), and Doom Eternal (2020), as well as the films Doom (2005) and Doom: Annihilation (2019).This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:21 UTC on Sunday, 10 December 2023.For the full current version of the article, see Doom (1993 video game) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Arthur Neural.

Q: How many classic science fiction movies can the sequel of a video game starring The Rock rip off before you realize that they should have stopped with one..? We question this & many other things as we bring in 2021 with our review of the 2019 sci fi action thriller sequel “Doom: Annihiliation”
It's our one year anniversary, so let's talk about this past year, our favorites movies and the ones that we hated with a passion (hint: it's Doom: Annihilation)
Remember last year? People used to smile more. Also there was a new Doom movie. Because we hadn't had one of those for a good long while. It was shopped around for a distributor to send to theaters. When no one bit, it was off to see if a streaming service would take it. When even nutflux can't be bothered to offer a pittance, you know it's bad. So we have it, direct from video, Doom Annihilation[2019]. It stars a bunch of actors wishing they could be has beens. There's an experiment using strange carved rocks to teleport between earth and mars. Which turns out to let demons, or something similar, into our world. Doom Annihilation is a movie. You now officially know more about it then we did before we watched it. This movie barely made a blip when it came out, and with good reason as it just isn't that good. It does, however, employ the tried and true low budget movie trope of having a bunch of people wander around a water treatment plant and pretend it is a space ship.

Hello Everyone,We here at Who Watches This hope everyone is staying safe and healthy! During this time we hope you guys aren't going to stir crazy and hope you let our sultry voices fill your homes! hahaWe aren't sure why it took us this long to have a VIDEO GAME MONTH! Yes, yes we know that video game adaptations are for the most part horrible, but we couldn't help ourselves! Hopefully this month we are either bringing new life and perspective into movies you thought were terrible or we're introducing you to movies you haven't even seen!Today we are doing a video game movie DOOM : ANNIHILATION not a sequel but a reboot that was a fun watch! stuck more to the game than the Karl Urban & The Rock classic but also deviates fairly to fit it more into a movie theme. This movie does not have any heavy hitters for stars and TBH feels like a syfy movie but it is definitely fun to watch! If you guys have any request for future movie request please send us an emailat whowatchesthispodcast@gmail.comI know... its a pretty long email but I just wanted to make sure we could get this email haha. Also enjoy some of our live tweets or slide into our DM's on our twitter page:@WWT_podcast- Theme Music -Lee Rosevere - Arcade Montage - Music For Podcast 3https://leerosevere.bandcamp.com/
So when we had the idea to do this movie, it was because we joked about June Doom instead of the usual June Gloom. Since recording, the world is now on fire, aside from being infected with a plague. First and foremost, all silliness and antics aside, we hope you are safe. In our own way, we love each of you and truly wish the best for you and your loved ones. Now... onto this terrible movie! Directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak (Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 the Grave). David Callaham wrote the script, and also penned Zombieland Double Tap, the now delayed Wonder Woman 1984, and both Shang Chi and the revamped Mortal Kombat still in development. The film is very loosely based on the DOOM franchise, starring the stoic, brave, and beautiful DOOMGUY. Fun fact, did you know Doomguy was a playable character in Tony Hawk? Also, we discuss the similarities in this movie, Overlord, and Wolfenstein. Another fun fact, they refer to William BJ Blazkowicz from the Wolfenstein games in DOOM: Annihilation. We briefly talk about Annihilation and the writer/ director, Tony Giglio, who also penned Soccer Dog: The Movie. The music was by Clint Mansell and if you haven't heard his score for MOON, dude... reassess your goals. Karl Urban, who played DND on the set of Chronicles of Riddick with Vin Diesel, plays John "Reaper" Grimm. He was also in Lord of the Rings, Dredd, and this lil' franchise called Star Trek you may have heard of. Frustratingly, his costume looks nothing like John Carmack's designs in the 1993 game. Dwayne Johnson (credited as The Rock) plays Asher "Sarge" Mahonin. While he was offered the lead role, he chose this supporting part instead. He, like nearly everyone who's seen it, was not a tremendous fan of the film even taking a jab at it in his 2008 WWE Hall of Fame inductance speech. This week's "Hidden Track" is by a band I have loved since high school (way too long ago); they are DOOM and they are rad. https://ukdoom.bandcamp.com/ If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.
