Send us a textThe tech and enterprise software landscape is undergoing rapid transformation, marked by a mix of bold acquisitions and cautious public market strategies. While Databricks' CEO candidly states that “it's dumb to IPO this year,” citing market volatility and strategic timing, major players are making aggressive moves elsewhere. From Thomson Reuters' $600M acquisition of tax automation firm SafeSend to WWT's $1.25B blockbuster deal to acquire Softchoice, the momentum is clearly shifting toward consolidation and capability expansion. Microsoft's Satya Nadella has also sparked debate with his prediction that AI agents could overtake traditional SaaS models by 2025, signaling a fundamental shift in how software is built and consumed. Meanwhile, companies like SPS Commerce, Cass Information Systems, and Later are strengthening their portfolios through targeted acquisitions, reflecting a broader trend of investing in specialized tools and emerging platforms. Together, these developments hint at a future shaped less by IPOs and more by ecosystem dominance and AI-powered disruption. In today's episode, we invited a panel of industry analysts for a live discussion on LinkedIn to analyze current enterprise software stories. Where does a river become sea? And where do eels live? In this episode of Waterlands, Megan McCubbin takes us to the Severn estuary – one of the most dynamic estuarine systems in the world and also one of the most important for wildlife in Britain, in search of eels. Joining her on this quest, are three eel fanatics, who have come to know and love this slippery fish from three different perspectives. Michael Malay is an academic and author, whose book about migration and belonging, Late Lights, recalls the first time he held an elver in his hand. He is drawn to estuaries and stories of belonging and remembers how his mind was blown when he first heard the lifecycle of the European eel. Andy Don explains the elusive nature of the eel and how confounding and fascinating they are from a scientist's point of view. Once everywhere, all up and down river systems, to the point of being eaten by the poor and used as fertiliser or taxes, the eel is now critically endangered. And WWT's Abigail Mckay explains how the Wetlands Bioscience Team is using cutting-edge eDNA technology to find where eels are – and where they are not, in an attempt to help remove barriers and increase their numbers again. Amid all the wonderful wildlife that is attracted to rivers, birds are some of the most spectacular. In this episode of Waterlands, Megan McCubbin hears stories of birding and freedom, kingfishers and kittiwakes. David Lindo, aka the Urban Birder, “hit the wall” a couple of times in a gardenless flat in Spain during lockdown. He shares how he sought out a river as soon as the restrictions were lifted, and was brought to tears by the sight and sound of nightingales and Cetti's warblers. The sound-recordist Chris Watson takes a bus into town to visit the very noisy, furthest inland colony of kittiwakes in the world. He explains how the birds choose to spend their summers amid the hustle and bustle of downtown Newcastle, under the Tyne bridge. And musician Nick Penny reveals what he discovered about the iconic kingfisher when he dedicated a year of his life to watching them on the River Nene near his house. Have you ever wondered whether you could look at the plants and animals in a river and tell how healthy it is? In this episode of Waterlands, Megan McCubbin invites us on a journey to a sparkling clear chalk stream, where warblers sing and water crowfoot blooms – the River Wylye in Wiltshire. She's joined by someone who has spent 45 years working in river conservation and still loves every second; Andy Thomas, Conservation Officer at the Wild Trout Trust, who explains the different life that can be found in the many different habitats of a healthy river, from reeds in the margins to larvae in the silt, weeds in the gravel and fish in the pools. Zarah Pattison, who hates the word ‘weed' almost as much as Megan, shares her knowledge of two invasive plants – Japanese Knotweed and Himalayan Balsam - and explains what to do if you find them. And Senior Reserves Manager, Rosie Ellis takes us on a tour of WWT Arundel, with its SSSI reedbed and toad patrol. Featuring: Andy Thomas, Zarah Pattison and Rosie Ellis. (AURN News) — In a powerful testament to Black entrepreneurship and perseverance, Dave Steward has secured his place among America's financial elite. The latest Forbes 400 list of the nation's wealthiest individuals features Steward as the richest Black man in America, with a remarkable net worth of $11.4 billion. At 73 years old, Steward's journey from humble beginnings to the pinnacle of business success is nothing short of inspirational. Born in Chicago and raised in Clinton, Missouri, he broke racial barriers early in his career as the first person of color hired by the Missouri Pacific Railroad to sell rail services. However, it was Steward's founding of World Wide Technology (WWT) in 1990 that truly set him on the path to unprecedented success. From its St. Louis headquarters, WWT has grown into a tech powerhouse, providing crucial solutions to over 80% of Fortune 100 companies. Today, WWT stands tall as the largest Black-owned company in the United States, boasting annual revenues surpassing $20 billion and employing more than 10,000 people. Steward's achievements extend far beyond his business acumen. His 50-year marriage to his wife Thelma and their family of two children and two grandchildren showcases his commitment to family values and community. Tied for 84th place on the Forbes 400, Steward's presence on this prestigious list is particularly significant given the exclusive nature of the rankings. This year, a minimum net worth of $3.3 billion was required just to make the cut, with the 400 listees collectively worth a staggering $5.4 trillion. As we celebrate Steward's accomplishments, his story reminds us of the untapped potential within our communities and the importance of creating and supporting Black-owned businesses. It's a powerful narrative of what's possible when talent meets opportunity, and barriers are broken down one success at a time. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
There is little more grounding than walking along a river. Scientists have shown that spending time near bodies of water, particularly while exercising, can boost your overall health and mood. In this episode of Waterlands, Megan McCubbin takes us on a journey to a remote and secret river in rural Wales followed by a city centre river in Cardiff. Three different river walkers explain why they do it and how it has changed their life. First up, television presenter (and president of WWT) Kate Humble shares her very special walk home with her trusty companion Teg, from the source of the River Wye to where it joins the River Severn near her home. The writer, Helia Phoenix takes us on a guided meditation and shares her story of ADHD breakdown, diagnosis and recovery, explaining how mindful walking along the River Taff, helped her access the simple beauty all around - the colour of the wall or the sudden crash-landing of a duck onto water. And Li An Phoa of Drinkable Rivers has been walking for the last ten years for another reason – to bring awareness to her cause, to kick-start a coalition of the willing around each river that she visits, and because she made a promise to the Rupert River in Canada, to do all she could to return to a world with drinkable rivers. We are all drawn to the beauty and power of rivers, but have you ever wondered how they have changed us? Or how we have changed them? In this episode, Megan McCubbin takes us to Devon, to meet the river poet Alice Oswald by her ‘pretty little stream', the Torridge. Writers and artists through the ages have been drawn to the beauty and power of rivers, and Alice is no exception. The river was a paradise throughout her childhood; a place for skimming stones, catching (and setting-free) minnows and escaping to another reality. She believes we are drawn to the wildness and otherness, as well as to the animals and different, changing landscapes of rivers as they travel from source to sea. Paul Raven, Author of Rivers: A natural and not-so-natural history, examines the relationship between rivers and people since the ice age and shares how human actions across history have positively and negatively affected the health of our waterways and the creatures that depend on them. Roisin Taylor, Co-Director of UK Youth 4 Nature shares the important work they are doing to redress the balance and implores us to ‘find a dipper and then you'll want to save that river.' Have you ever stood beside a river and imagined where it all begins? In this episode of Waterlands, Megan McCubbin takes us to the Flow Country in Scotland, home to the world's largest expanse of blanket bog, where water seeps slowly through a maze of pools before feeding rivers like the Thurso. Joined by someone who's spent a lot of time in this ecosystem, Millie Revel Hayward, Megan explores this fascinating and fluid landscape, discovering how the bog acts like a sponge, absorbing rain and releasing pure water into the ecosystem. As they bounce on the waterlogged land, like a natural trampoline, they reveal how this ancient peatland supports everything from breeding salmon to rare wading birds like the golden plover. Dr. Mark Everard explains the complex, interconnected systems of rivers, from their underground sources to the impact of human activities like farming. He shares how changes in the landscape can shift a river's path and flow before it even reaches the surface. And artist Kathy Hinde dives into the sounds of the bog, crafting a unique soundscape from beneath the blanket of moss, capturing the rhythms of this hidden world. In this month's episode of Féminin, Rose Manley, Denny Gray and Orla Chennaoui cast their eyes over recent racing at the Tour de Suisse and come dangerously close to speculation as they ponder what it might mean for the year's biggest races and beyond. Demi Vollering's winning run shows no signs of letting up after taking three stages and the overall win at the Tour de Suisse. But how much could her expected departure from SD Worx at the end of the season stifle her ambitions? And who are her likely rivals? Plus, this month's mini feature follows four riders and their changing fortunes at the Tour of Britain Women. We hand the microphone over to SD Worx super domestique Christine Majerus, DSM-firmenich road captain Pfeiffer Georgi, youngest rider in the race Eilidh Shaw and Lucy Harris, a full time meteorological data scientist competing at her first ever WWT race. And lastly we look ahead to the forthcoming women's Giro d'Italia which hasn't been won by anyone other than Anna van der Breggen or Annemiek Van Vleuten since 2016. The route boasting time trials, sprints, hilly stages and a fearsome finish on Blockhaus, and with Demi Vollering not starting, we look at who might be capable of winning the maglia rosa. We discuss emerging talents Neve Bradbury and Kim Cadzow and Lidl-Trek's joint leaders of Elisa Longo Borghini and Gaia Realini. It's a feud as old as time, with countless tears and bloodshed, and yet we are doomed to torture each other as long as we both walk this Earth. Championing the Goose's side of the war, while still acknowledging the living chaos that our feathered friends rain upon mankind, is Ornithologist, host of the "How Many Geese?" podcast, and first EVER returning guest: Jack Baddams, who exhibits what we like to call "BGE" or Big Goose Energy. Jack joins Alice this week to discuss why Geese are the antithesis to the British public, the crazy story behind Barnacle Geese, AND why we should all "be more Goose" when we need a dash of brazen confidence. Our Charity of the Week this week is the WWT - the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, who are not only protecting the habitat where Geese (and other birds) roam, but have been pivotal in the repopulation of the Hawaiian Goose! Our CEO Fiona Taylor visits Slimbridge to chat to Simon Rose from the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) about ways to create similar habitats in your growing space. With 75 per cent of wetlands in the UK lost in the last 300 years, Fiona explores the importance of urban bluescapes and bogs as a homes for wildlife. “Wetlands are really rich in wildlife – in fact 40 per cent of the world's species are reliant in some way on wetlands,” says Simon, who is Head of Experience Development at the WWT, which is based at Slimbridge Wetlands Centre in Gloucestershire. “But they also help prevent flooding and reduce carbon emissions. Wetlands are actually faster than rainforests at locking up carbon.” Simon and Fiona discuss ways you can mimic these diverse habitats in your own growing space. “Whenever you introduce water into the garden it's one of the best biodiversity boosters, and that could be anything from a bucket to half a barrel. Dig a hole, fill it with water, put some rocks and some plants in it and I guarantee that within weeks you'll attract wildlife,” says Simon. “The sediment that settles on the bottom of a pond is another opportunity for carbon sequestration, even in a back garden setting.” Also in this episode… Chris Collins and Fiona chat about jobs you can be getting with this month, and Anton Rosenfeld delves into the postbag to help answer your questions. This month, they chew over using woodchip as a mulch, how to tackle rats, and ways to save money in the garden.

Smylie is joined by Erik van Rooyen following an incredibly emotional few days for the latest winner on the PGA Tour. Erik and his caddie Alex Gaugert celebrated their win at the World Wide Technology Championship with heavy hearts, as their friend and college teammate Jon Trasamar processes his final days with a terminal cancer diagnosis. With no WWT racing since the last podcast, Gracie took charge of this episode. The crew spends most of the time discussing the best domestiques in the peloton, plus the different kinds of domestiques and who qualifies into which category.
Putting new technology to use is an exciting prospect. But going from purchase to production isn't always smooth—even when it's something everyone is looking forward to. Code Comments covers the bumps, the hiccups, and the setbacks teams face when adjusting to new technology—and the triumphs they pull off once they really get going. In this episode, World Wide Technology (WWT) helps organizations set up their tech infrastructure. But they also have to do it for themselves. It's a lot to juggle with their ambitious goals for growth. Automation is helping them get to where they want to go—but it took them a few years to find a solution the team bought into. Corey Wanless and Jason Kayser share what WWT wanted to achieve with automation, the challenges they faced, and how it helped the people of WWT come together. Hosted on Acast.
