VYS0042 | Grinding Out Some Low-End - Vayse to Face with Aidan Wachter - Show Notes Somehow stumbling into a third season knowing less than when they started, Hine and Buckley welcome a guest that has been top of the Vasye-most-wanted-list since the podcast's inception - witch, dirt sorcerer, magician, animist and author, Aidan Wachter. Aidan skilfully and eloquently answers questions on some big topics: are some people naturally more able to connect to magic than others? How do you tune into the more subtle communications when working with spirits? What separates Aidan's practice, beliefs and faith from those of a conventionally religious practice? How can a solitary magical practice serve the wider community? ...and whatever happened to the Black Squid Cult? Your hosts this episode: OptimalAudio embraced Today, OptimalAudio is joined by returning fellow guest embraced to discuss, once again, the state of the Soundcloud and the artists found in it's Rap scene. With the continued rise and variations of Jerk, Lowend, and various Plugg subgenres by said artists, your hosts battle against the narrative of Rap, and Soundcloud Rap specifically, becoming stale and highlight some of their favorite (and least favorite) artists dominating their attention, and who they could see blowing up in the future. Artists discussed include Yeat, OsamaSon, Lazer Dim 700, Glokk40spaz, Ian, Xaviersobased, Nettspend, Shed Theory, Corey Lingo, and many others. Along the way the podcast also comments on the growing variations and evolution found in the Soundcloud Rap scene and how it compares to the initial older artists and scenes that broke the platform into the mainstream initially. Every once in a while, we get the chance to talk to TRUE rock royalty...and today was one of those days as we held court with the Lord of the Low End , legendary Spinal Tap bassist, DEREK SMALLS!!!
Very interestingly, there are creative musical pockets around the country. One such creative area is on the East Coast in the New Jersey area. In the midst of this musical swirl, bassist Brenda Sauter has been laying down the low end for a number of bands including The Feelies and Wild Carnation. It is exciting that both bands have some very cool stuff going on right now so join me as we get the details from Brenda along with her musical journey and future plans.Header and Video Photo Credits: John Baumgartner, Chris Methven, John Bruce, Rich BarnesThis interview first appeared in Bass Musician Magazine, Aug 28, 2023Go to jazzguitartoday.com and bassmusicianmagazine.com more interviews and lessons.

Greg Meadows is an acoustic singer-songwriter who plays music as The Low End. He started the project to escape the frustration of complicated computer-based setups and overly processed music. Greg wanted to embrace performance and humanity in his recordings, so he turned to his trusty Tascam 4-track tape recorder. His music emphasizes emotion and performance over production and perfection. I learned about Greg's work while watching his video about a Tascam mixer. I was blown away by his music and spent the rest of the night devouring everything he has created. Greg and I spoke about his work and the philosophy behind it. He spoke about how reducing his setup helped him learn the subtleties of recording and production.
