Pat Mastroianni played Joey Jeremiah on Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High (and, later, on Degrassi: The Next Generation). The pre-Internet incarnations of Degrassi – all shot on location in Toronto-area schools – built a massive fanbase for tackling topics that weren't being broached anywhere else on children's television: interracial dating; sexual violence and child abuse; teen suicide; drunk driving; epilepsy; depression; grief; abortion; bullying; poverty; teen pregnancy; AIDS; burgeoning sexuality. The original shows explored all of these heavy topics with kids playing their actual age – and, despite the gravity of the subject matter, Degrassi was entertaining. It was fun – Joey wore a fedora and formed a band called The Zit Remedy with Wheels and Snake in which they only played one song (“Everybody Wants Something”) – and it was relatable. It was must-see TV for an entire generation of Canadian kids whose adoration knew no bounds. And now we're all grown up. Where are our Degrassi kids now? How did Degrassi change their lives? And do they know how much they meant to us Canadian kids? And thanks to Joey Jeremiah – AKA Pat Mastroianni – we don't have to wait any longer for answers. Pat is the filmmaker behind a new documentary called A Narbo's Guide to Being a Broomhead, which unfolds during Degrassi Palooza, a three-day cast reunion weekend in Toronto attended by fans from all over the world. Pat intercuts poignant and funny moments from the reunion weekend with camcorder footage and personal photos from behind the scenes at Degrassi. The result is a film that gives viewers a front row seat to a one-of-a-kind fan experience, and also insight into the many ways the young actors were impacted by their time in Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High. It's a funny and moving documentary for the generation of Canadians who grew up with Snake and Wheels and Caitlin and Joey, and get an inside look into one of the most iconic and groundbreaking series to come out of Canada. Joey Negro is the most well-known pseudonym of master British DJ/producer/remixer Dave Lee. Under a plethora of other monikers including Akabu, Doug Willis, The Sunburst Band, Jakatta, Raven Maize, Sessomatto, and Z Factor, Dave was one of the first artists to incorporate disco samples in house music when he began his production career in 1988. Indeed, he was in the studio making credible British House music when many luminaries around him were still busy getting to grips with their decks. Little has changed since then and Dave is still widely regarded as one of the forefathers of the UK dance scene who is still as productive as ever in the studio and behind the decks most weekends. A producer first, his work ethic is legendry, having been involved in well over 300 productions, countless albums and a healthy stack of pop crossover hit singles with tracks such as ‘Must Be The Music’, ‘Make A Move On Me’ and Jakatta’s ‘American Dream” making the UK Top 10. Dave has also been commissioned to remix the likes of Kelly Rowland, Empire of the Sun, Mariah Carey, Labrynth, Pet Shop Boys, Diana Ross and many many more. He also conceived and produced the UK number 1 “Relight My Fire” by Take That. However, despite the crossover successes the majority of Dave’s productions have had the heart in underground clubland – with releases on many seminal house music labels – Transmat, Nu Groove, Quark, JBO, Azuli, Deconstruction Guidance & NRK. Intrinsically linked with the birth of house in the UK, Dave Lee set up the dance music division of Rough Trade, Demix in 1986 and through this link, he began working with the Rhythm King label, which had had a number of hits with acts like Bomb The Bass, S-Express, Cookie Crew and Beatmasters. This experience and intimacy with other leading house labels led to him establishing his own imprint, Republic Records, in 1988. Now defunct, Republic was one of the UK’s first soulful house label releasing classics such as Phase II “Reachin” and Turntable Orchestra “You’re Gonna Miss Me” - as well as some early productions of his own like Raven Maize “Forever Together” Joey Negro, as an entity, was born in 1990 with the release of “Do It Believe It’ on US cult house label Nu Groove. When struggling for an act name Dave flicked through a pile of records next to his desk and ending up putting together Pal Joey and J Walter Negro - “I thought it sounded like a cool hispanic New York guy, I certainly never envisaged I’d be answering to the name Joey 25 years later”. The track was a breakthrough success and was followed by ‘Do What You Feel’, which was released on his second label and successor to Republic, Z Records. ‘Do What You Feel’ eventually crossed from a club hit to a top 40 pop hit on Virgin Records. Another Top 40 track followed with “Love Fantasy” and an album “Universe of Love” with guest appearances from disco acts The Trammps and Gwen Gutherie. Throughout the 90/00’s Dave delivered a constant stream of productions and remixes with tracks like his “Can’t Get High Without U” and Z Factor “Gotta Keep Pushin” (used as the theme for Ibiza Uncovered) becoming anthems on the dancefloor. These days his label ZR is not only a vehicle for him to release his own music but has become a very cool brand featuring productions and remixes from both cutting edge and established producers like Dennis Ferrer, Jimpster, Henrik Schwarz, The Revenge and Frankie Knuckles. Dave’s work producing live disco act The Sunburst Band has been the source of much praise and adoration. Their fourth album ‘The Secret Life of Us’ from 2012 was yet another power house of all things soul, jazz, and funk featuring a host of live musicians and vocalists has been widely regarded as the strongest Sunburst album yet. The LP topped the Solar Sweet rhythms for over 2 months (a record), Starpoint Soul chart, Amazon Funk chart and has received across the board props. The band continue to tour around the world on a regular basis. Dave has remained an avid vinyl collector and has put together many genre defining compilations – ‘Disco (Not Disco)’ (Strut), ‘Joey Negro In The House’ (Defected), ‘Disco Spectrum’ Vol.1–3 (BBE), ‘Jumpin’ 1& 2 (Harmless), Southport Weekender Volume 1, ‘Nite:Life’ and ‘Back In The Box’ (NRK) ‘The Trip’ (Family Records) ‘The Voyage – Excursions into Early House’ (X Treme) & ‘Lust: Art & Soul’ (Susu). Whilst on ZR he’s compiled ‘Destination Boogie’, ‘Locked In The Vinyl Cellar’, ‘Supafunkanova’ ‘The Soul of Disco’ (Vol.1-3), ‘Back Street Brit Funk’ and the latest labour of love ‘GoGo Get Down’ that focused on Washington DC GoGo funk, all of which continue to further cement him as one of the UK’s foremost musical authorities. Not wanting to hog all the limelight, Dave has started the ‘Under The Influence’ series on ZR which gives a platform to some of the worlds most serious record collectors – unknown names who’ve spent their lives collecting music and have the knowledge to put together a wicked selection on previously unheard music. His discography is undoubtedly impressive and his deep understanding as a selector of all things disco and house on the dancefloor have ensured his status on the global DJ circuit worldwide to this day. Joey Negro's dj sets reflect his extensive love of music ranging from rare disco through to vocal and classic house and often into more deep, electronic and techy areas, his sets littered with exclusives, old and new. Where as many producers from his era have tended to ease off on the studio work Mr Lee keeps turning out the club hits, evident in 2012 when he had 5 releases in the Traxsource end of year top 100. 2013 saw his long awaited compilation ‘Remixed With Love’ hit the stores. Packed with brand new remixes of classic disco tracks all reworked from original 24 track tapes and including artists such as Roxy Music, Patrice Rushen & Roy Ayers, the album topped sales charts on Amazon and Juno and stayed at No.1 on Traxsource for 4 months. His Akabu track "Everybody Wants Something" also featured in many end of year ‘best of’ charts. Joey has kept the pressure on in 2014 with singles under his Z Factor, Doug Willis and Sunburst Band aliases plus remixes for Zo! and Tramhead. He also put together and released a universally applauded Italo House album which dug deep into house history delivering some forgotten gems that still sound great today. Looking forward to next year there are already three albums lined up - Supafunkanova Volume 2, Remixed With Love Vol. 2 and a stunning compilation of 90s House and Garage. Also look out for a new artist album from Joey Negro coming soon... For all booking enquiries please email simon AT zrecords DOT ltd DOT uk

Introspection 2.0 Same spirit as the first iteration. Deep, slightly down tempoIndie and dark progressive House driven by big bass lines and (I hope ) original eclectic melodies. Except for the Lana track which I picked up from Introspection 1.0, the set has a clear continental European feel. The artists and remixers are mostly from Northern Europe. The production is distinctively Nordic or German. I used no Latin flair nor samples and tried to concentrate on the mixing only. Official thanks to Lars, who sent me some German tunes. Not only do I love them but it has opened a new direction for seeking new sounds. Lars, I am very grateful. A word on the passing of Frankie Knuckles: In the near future I will (how could I not?) fittingly mark the occasion with hopefully a live set at home with friends. Should the result be good enough I will upload the set. Reading the posts from the average punter like me and from DJs he influenced or supported during his career, the common thread was on how much joy and what a nice gentle man he was. Whatever I’ll do, shall reflect the joy and gentleness. I do not want it to be a sad tribute, hence the wait.. Playlist: 2013 Summertime Sadness (MK Feel It In The Air Remix vs MK Lee Foss Cold Blooded Remix) [Xtian Shorten’ Edit]. Lana Del Rey 2013 Be Good (Original Mix). Andrey Exx feat. Fomichev 2013 Be Good to Me (Me My Toothbrush Remix). Croatia Squad 2014 Feel Good (Moe Turk Remix). Ran Salman and Ordonez feat. Shlomi B 2014 Never You Mind (Original Mix). KANT 2013 Mirage (Day Mix). Vanilla Ace 2013 Barfuss Auf Wolken (Club Mix). KlangKuenstler 2012 In The Night (Hot Since 82 Remix). Sivesgaard 2013 Come With Me (David Devilla Elisabeth Aivar Remix). Mauro B and Gerard C feat. Elisabeth Aivar 2013 Everyday Everynight (KANT Remix). Amber Jolene feat. Nolan 2014 Everybody Wants Something (Kolombo Back To Bassix Mix). Akabu feat. Alex Mills 2012 Rule The World (Maya Jane Coles Remix. Rashid Ajami 2012 Wir Sind Frei (Original Version). The Peacemaker Project Highlights: Started where I left it with “Summertime Sadness” which turns out to be one of the weakest tracks of the set. A bit lazy of me.. Begining the big bass line theme with Andrey Exx's great remix of the classic “ Be Good”. Whoever is the vocalist is amazing and I love the atmosphere the production has achieved. Continuing with the male vocalist of the same classic, this was a fluke but a happy one. “Be Good to Me” by Croatia Squad. Listen from the break at 15:36 and be in bliss with the disco keys they have introduced in what was a rather dark and progressive rendition. With the nest track “Feel Good” the set is at cruising spend. The Moe Turk Remix of the Ran Salman and Ordonez track is just top shelf progressive indie house. “Never You Mind” by Kant.. I LOVE anything Kant is currently producing.. From Denmark, those gys are subtle, inspired.. Released in 2014, this is going straight into my top ten.. Do not miss!! In case you did not get the heavy hint DO NOT MISS!! And maybe, just maybe buy the track on Beatport.. “Mirage” by Vanilla Ace. From London, very talented, remixers of Basement Jaxx and Nora en Pure. “Mirage” is again key and bass driven with a voice sample ( did not even had to had it).. I t is so easy to listen to and yet so intricate. Deep, Progressive or Chill you choose. “Barfuss auf Wolken” from KlangKueunstler .. which translates (I think) as “Walking Barefoot on the Cloud”.. My niece recognized the sample from somewhere, I didn’t.. Thank you Lars. Indie German track, with great guitar, showing how fusion should be done.. Happy tune! “Come with Me” sexy deep house based again on a big bass line, perfect percussions and synths pas in what is for me the perfect key for deep house (Gm). Hot since 82 serving up the remix. Sexy track .. “Come with Me, Close your eyes and kisssss me …” The Kant remix of “Everyday Everynight” if ever there was a track which dropped naturally, this was the one.. It is everything I attempted to make you feel here.. And again the Danes are showing how music can be clever and fully enjoyable.. If this is Indie.. well, I love Indie.. Amber Jolene with Nolan on the vocals.. “Everybody Wants Something”.. you know the track, Akabu is really smashing it recently and this remix is both a bit challenging and immensely sexy! ATTENTION TOP TRACK !!.. The Maja Jane Coles remix of “Rule the World”.. If the Doors where performing today this would be what they would sound like.. Driving, melodic and the dimension Maya Jane Coles has given the track is unmistakable. Love it!! As for Maya Janes Coles, she is firmly in my top ten current DJ and actually one of the very few, for whom I would move mountains to see and hear. Great talent! “Wir Sind Frei” from the Peacemaker Project.. It is a collective of artists.. from Germany mainly.. here is their website http://www.thepeacemakerproject.com and their SoundCloud page https://soundcloud.com/thepeacemakerproject Same as KANT I love everything they do, they are bringing brains, style and elegance to House and are NEVER boring, always having a melodic dimension to anything they do. This is the current tip of the creation in House music.. and I am quite happy to say, it is in Europe… The track is good and I did not feel like “mixing it in” for the sake of it.. I knew I wanted it to end to give the Peacemaker Project a bit of exposure. Hope you like Introspection 2.0. I will be back next week. A bientôt. Xtian
