TW: miscarriage; infertility.Oh Alex Jones, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways... Like many of you, I already felt I knew Alex before I met her. She is one of the most trusted and famliar faces on our TV screen as co-host of BBC's The One Show. But in person, she was EVEN lovelier than I could have imagined: warm, funny and totally genuine. She's currently presenting an extraordinary documentary series on the W Channel which saw her train as a fertility assistant at one of Britain's leading clinics. Making Babies is one of the most emotional - and accurate - portrayals of fertility I've ever seen. Alex joins me to talk about this, as well as her own experience of miscarriage. We talk about how she got fired from her first job for a number of hilarious professional errors of judgement - including the time she locked the future King in the toilet. And we discuss her self-perceived failure to understand the mental health challenges faced by loved ones, including her husband. It's such a brave and authentic conversation and I'm really grateful to her for opening up about it to me.--Alex Jones: Making Babies is being broadcast on the W channel on Thursdays at 8pm. We're back for a brand new season. Well...you didn't think we were ever GONNA GIVE YOU UP did you? (See what I did there?)My childhood self is utterly thrilled that we get to open Season 16 with the legendary Rick Astley. The singing superstar who gained worldwide fame in the 1980s with hits such as Never Gonna Give You Up and who is now being discovered by a whole new generation thanks to the viral internet phenomenon known as Rickrolling (don't worry - I didn't know what this was either: he explains it on the pod). Now 56, Astley has 8 consecutive UK top 10 hits, more than 40 million album sales and 3 million TikTok followers to his name. Besides which, he's a thoroughly nice man.We talk about his difficult upbringing, his failure to grow up and his inability to give up drinking good wine. Prepare yourself for a lot of entertainment, some laughs, a side-order of self-deprecation and yes, a few tears too.--My Plan To Save The Planet, the new album by Rick Astley is out now and avaiable to order here.--Failosophy for Teens: A Handbook for When Things Go Wrong by Elizabeth Day is my first ever book for young adults and it's out TOMORROW, 5th January 2023, and available to purchase here.--How To Fail With Elizabeth Day is hosted and produced by Elizabeth Day. TW: discussions around suicideThe period between Christmas and New Year can be tough for many. That's why I wanted to bring you an episode designed to help you feel less alone, where my guest talks openly about his own mental health and his desire to make others take care of theirs.Roman Kemp has presented the Capital FM breakfast show since 2017, attracting a weekly audience of almost six million. In August 2020, his best friend and the producer of his radio show, Joe Lyons died by suicide. Lyons' death was deeply shocking to all who loved him, leaving Kemp bereft, angry and searching for answers. Kemp went on to present an acclaimed BBC documentary on male suicide and wrote a bestselling book, Are You Really OK? packed full of personal reflections and practical advice. Here, Roman talks about the impact of Joe's death, about this own mental health and destigmatising the conversation around these issues. Along the way, we chat about his failed driving test, his failed career moves and what it was like having George Michael as a godfather (pretty great, as it turns out). A moving, enlightening and ultimately uplifiting conversation. I hope you take something from it. If you've been affected by any of the issues raised in this episode, call Samaritans for free on 116 123.--Are You Really OK? by Roman Kemp is out now. Dayna and Gabe kick off Season 2 and the beginning of 2022 with a lighthearted discussion about how to find the love, joy, and fun in public speaking. Finding the fun in public speaking is much easier said than done though, so they dive deeper into how you can (not should!) find the fun in public speaking as well. This episode has a "big reframing energy" to it as they share some ways that you can reframe your negative or nervous thoughts about public speaking and think about it in a more exciting way. Also, Gabe shares some very interesting analogies to illustrate how he feels about public speaking.

In these ‘Moment' episodes of my podcast, I'll be selecting my favourite moments from previous episodes of The Diary Of A CEO. Failure is something which we will all inevitably meet throughout our lives, yet it's something we all seem to have an incredibly toxic relationship with. Elizabeth Day is the author of ‘Failosophy' and host of ‘How To Fail with Elizabeth Day' so it's no surprise that Elizabeth has a thing or two to say about failure. In this ‘moment' from the podcast, Elizabeth and I read a couple of her 7 principles on failure from her book. This week on The Secret Life of Celebrity Pets my guest is podcaster, writer and presenter Elizabeth Day and her cat Huxley! Elizabeth has published a memoir, How to Fail, a Sunday Times Best Seller as well as several novels and a very useful handbook called Failosophy. Her next novel Magpie is due out next month and is already receiving incredible reviews. Through her writing and podcast, How to Fail, Elizabeth wants to change the way we see failure. One thing she hasn't failed at though is being a loving pet mum to her pooch Huxley. In this episode, we talked about becoming a pet owner, falling in love with Huxley and how Huxley has taught her to be in the moment more. The Secret Life of Celebrity Pets hosted by me, Darren Kennedy. Each week, we'll go behind the closed doors of some famous faces and into the pampered world of celebrity pets. Make sure you hit subscribe wherever you get your podcasts so you never miss an episode. It would also really help us grow if you left a positive review and gave us five stars too. If you have any questions for Darren or would like to suggest a future guest, leave it in the comment section and we'll do our very best to get back to you. Thanks for listening! Until next Sunday, bye for now.

One of my favourite chats of the series so far, I had the absolute pleasure of being joined by stand-up comedian Fern Brady. A shy catholic school girl turned dry-witted stand up comedy goddess, Fern's twenties journey was complex, colourful and far from straight forward. Though she clearly had a talent for journalism, Fern couldn't fight off the urge she had to pursue comedy, and the majority of her twenties were spent fuelling her side hustle and wondering whether she made the right decision...Fern and I talk all things 'choices', her desire to break through class barriers, living up to expectation and the comparisons between working as a female comic in stand-up to the more 'honest' sexism in strip clubs. Our Favourite Millenial Minesweeper Quote this week was;'The more I speak to people about the wilderness of their twenties, the more I realise that perhaps the greatest achievement of this particular decade, is living through it' - Elizabeth Day, Failosophy.
Elizabeth Day prefers to think of 2020 as the year we got a lot of opportunities to learn about what to do when life doesn't go to plan. She's a writer and host of the podcast, How To Fail. She talks to Jesse about her new book, Failosophy.
Semoga membantu. Jangan lupa follow @nuchabachri, @curhatbapakibu & @sheggario di Instagram.
Writer and podcast chart-topping sensation, Elizabeth Day is Katie's guest this week. On her podcast ‘How To Fail’, Elizabeth meets guests ranging from Phoebe Waller Bridge to Alistair Campbell to Lily Allen, breaking down how they’ve learned from their personal failures. The podcast led to her Sunday Times bestseller book, also called How To Fail, and in October she released her latest book ‘Failosophy: a handbook for when things go wrong’. As we move into a year where things will continue to not go as planned, Elizabeth is the perfect guest to start 2021. In this episode, Elizabeth discusses how she took ownership of failures in her life, sharing how she learned to let go of her 5-year-plan, and explains how we can employ her ’seven key principles of failure’ in our own lives. Today's guest is my one of my dearest friends, Elizabeth Day. I have been waiting for this conversation for a long time, and it's flattering to know that many others have been as well. I appeared on Elizabeth's podcast earlier this year, and the episode was an absolutely massive hit. All of this is humbling, but the real gem is the bond I forged with this amazing woman. This conversation is an invaluable follow-up as we end one of the most trying years in collective human history. It says a lot that we barely had to do any editing on this audio, because everything just flows when there is chemistry - and boy is it honest. I'm certain anyone who listens to this will take something valuable away.Elizabeth is an author, journalist and broadcaster. Her memoir, How To Fail: Everything I’ve Ever Learned From Things Going Wrong is a Sunday Times top 5 bestseller and has been described as ‘life-changing’ by critics. In Episode 5 of Mostly Books Meets, we chat to journalist, author, and podcaster, Elizabeth Day. An experienced journalist, who has written for publications including The Telegraph, The Guardian and The Mail on Sunday. Elizabeth’s first book was published in 2011 and she went on to publish a further three novels, including the Party which was a Richard and Judy Book Club pick. In 2017, after a relationship breakup, Elizabeth came up with the idea of a new podcast: How To Fail With Elizabeth Day. In the podcast, she speaks to successful people about three perceived failures and how they dealt with them. The podcast was an instant success and, after eight episodes, it had been downloaded more than 200,000 times and she had a book deal. The resulting book, How to Fail, was a Sunday Times best seller and the follow up, Failosophy is published on the 1st October. -- In Failosophy Elizabeth Day brings together all the lessons she has learned, from conversations with the guests on her award-winning How to Fail podcast, from stories shared with her by readers and listeners, and from her own life, and distils them into seven principles of failure. Practical, reassuring and inspirational, these principles offer a guide through life's rough patches. From failed exams to romantic break-ups, from career setbacks to confidence crises, from navigating anxiety to surviving loss, Failosophy recognises, and celebrates, the fact that failure connects us all. It is what makes us human. With insights from Malcolm Gladwell, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Lemn Sissay, Frankie Bridge, Nigel Slater, Emeli Sande, Alain de Botton, Mabel, Fearne Cotton, Meera Syal, Dame Kelly Holmes, Andrew Scott and many, many more, Failosophy is the essential handbook for turning failure into success. I'VE GOT A TEXT...MESSAGE. This week's guest is Ovie Soko, a man who entered the Love Island villa in 2019 and rapidly became iconic by uttering this phrase. His debut book, You Are Dope, is out next week. Ovie joins me to talk about almost getting expelled from school, cheating on a girlfriend and being caught stealing from his mother. I've wanted to get this guest on for ages and now - hooray! - here she is: the inimitable Ruby Wax. Ruby started out as an actress at the RSC, took a side-step into comedy and had a hugely successful television career, interviewing everyone from Madonna and Imelda Marcos to the Spice Girls. But, after living with depression all her life and a series of breakdowns, she got a Masters from Oxford University in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy and is now a mental health campaigner and author. Ruby joins me to talk about mental health, mindfulness, job loss, how to deal with anxiety and comedy as a vehicle for truth. We chat about the influence of her late, dear friend Alan Rickman, the trauma of a difficult upbringing, the time she mortally embarrassed herself in front of Sir Paul McCartney and her spectacular failure at an audition for Saturday Night Live. Oh, and we talk about what happened when she interviewed the future President of the United States, Donald Trump, on his private jet [spoiler alert: it wasn't great]. At the age of 80, Annie Nightingale still manages to be one of the most forward-looking and future-facing people I've ever interviewed. She is the legendary Radio 1 DJ - the first woman ever to get a job at the station and now the BBC's longest-serving presenter and a vital force in British music. Annie joins me to talk about confronting sexism, breaking the mould, getting the best of of interviewees and what it's like to have met everyone from David Bowie to Paul McCartney to Eminem and Jim Morrison (he didn't impress her much tbf). We also touch on her convent school education, her inability to tell a lie, her failure at A-Levels and her terrible financial planning. She is, it has to be said, a total riot. * PLEASE PRE-ORDER MY NEW BOOK! Mohsin Zaidi's memoir, A Dutiful Boy, is one of the most powerful and emotive books I've read this year. It tells the story of his upbringing in a poor pocket of east London, in a devout Shia Muslim community. His family were close-knit and religiously conservative. From a young age, Mohsin knew that his sexuality was a secret he had to hide in a household where being gay was viewed as an inconceivable taboo. Despite these personal struggles, Mohsin became the first person from his comprehensive school to go to Oxford University, later becoming a leading barrister. And then he told his family the truth. Mohsin joins me to talk about the realities of being gay and Muslim, about what it means to love your family while keeping your truest self hidden and about how he found the strength to break through the barriers surrounding him in the search for a truly authentic life. Trust me, YOU WILL LOVE THIS EPISODE. Mohsin is so eloquent and interesting and sweet-natured and funny that you can't help but fall in love with him a little bit, even when he's talking about such harrowing and difficult experiences. Inspiration is a word that gets bandied around a lot, but Mohsin Zaidi is a man who is wholly worthy of it. * PLEASE PRE-ORDER MY NEW BOOK! In this episode of the Failosophy podcast, host Gabe Zichermann conducts a failure analysis of the root causes underlying Boeing's fatal 737 Max crashes. The company's inability to accept and work with failure led to these fatalities.
What is failure? I believe our failings are important plots on our life map. I also believe we should learn to love the word failure and our our failings. I have and each have been valuable lessons. Yes failure is uncomfortable to feel and admit. It is how we use them to define ourselves. Understand what we love and what we don't love.
At 20 I was told by an Editor at the BEEB to stop making and leaving show reels on his desk, he said he wouldn't listen to them. I did exactly that. 16 years on and finally over the shame here it is my first show. I am a Failosopher a Creative Coach is perhaps more useful. On today's episode, I talk to comedian Gareth Reynolds. Gareth's parents originally hail from the UK, but Gareth was raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He's co-created The Travel Channel show Mancations and the MTV show Failosophy, he's written for the Comedy Central show Idiotsitter, and nearest and dearest to my heart, he's the co-host of one of the best podcasts around The Dollop, an American history podcast he does with stand-up and Maron-writer Dave Anthony. This is the website for Beginnings, subscribe on iTunes, follow me on Twitter.
Mike Cannon ("Guy Code," "Failosophy") and Doug Smith ("Gotham Comedy Live," Just For Laughs) team up to take on Dan & Sean. Topics discussed include magic mushrooms, disappointing interactions with celebrities, fighting with audience members and so much more!
This month, funny people Jann Karam (Seinfeld, Late Show with David Letterman), Brady Matthews (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Jimmy Kimmel Live), and Hasan Minhaj (Chelsea Lately, Failosophy, Arrested Development) tell new jokes and then sit down with Christian Spicer to discuss mic technique, if it'd be better to let comics do more than one take for late-night TV sets, and more. Have a listen, tell your friends, give someone a hug.
We start this week's show off with Zaki's interview with Chef writer/director/star Jon Favreau, who talks not only about his new film but also shares his thoughts on the current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after he pretty much kicked it into gear with Iron Man. After that, Brian and Zaki (still no Sean this week!) are joined by a special guest: comedian Hasan Minhaj (MTV's Failosophy), who talks up his new project, the globe-spanning doc Standup Planet, and joins us as we discuss Viggo Mortensen's unvarnished take on Peter Jackson and the Lord of the Rings films, the Harry Potter spin-off/prequel Alfonso Cuaron is currently circling, plus Zach Snyder's surprise reveal of
No way to accurately decsribe this show. It was a terrific array of talent and interesting people doing cool things. Evan & Gareth, so talented, talked about their TV stuff and the process of creating shows for Comedy Central, MTV and why you never want to call a show "Failosophy." Vanda shared wide variety of experiences, near death and fully alive, combining spirituality and stand-up. Amy Solomon is a writer and studen at Princeton who is doing a project on the realtionship between mental health, depression and comedic genius-and The Hard Shine Blues Band rocked it with two great songs, they are amazing! Enjoy!
Sean, Brian, and Zaki are joined once more by JoBlo.com News Editor Paul Shirey for this week's MovieFilm show as they discuss the trifecta of fail that is Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Last Stand, Lindsay Lohan's The Canyons, and the underwhelming Oscar nominations. Speaking of fail, Zaki also interviews comedian Hasan Minhaj about Failosophy, the new show he's hosting for MTV. In addition to all that, we also unpack the trailers for RED 2, the remake of horror classic The Evil Dead, and political thriller Olympus Has Fallen, and we close out with a celebration of Inauguration Day with a quiz administered by Zaki testing the guys' knowledge of presidential movies. This one is packed-to-the-gills and plenty of fun, so make sure to give it a listen! You can stream it below or
