President Donald Trump welcomed the newly elected Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi to the White House on Tuesday. Trump said the United States is shifting toward economic partnerships with Iraq with a focus on oil and added that U.S. forces will leave the country by Sept. 30. The U.S. president also highlighted a major drop in inflation and attributed it to policy measures. Inflation declined to a lower-than-expected 3.5 percent, down from 4.2 percent, the Labor Department said Tuesday.The Department of Justice said its Trade Fraud Task Force reached a new milestone less than a year after its launch. Colin McDonald, the lead attorney of the National Fraud Enforcement Division, announced a $1 billion recovery from a crackdown on individuals and companies accused of violating U.S. trade and customs laws.Meta is facing a lawsuit over claims that artificial intelligence helped decide who the company would lay off. Twenty-six current and former employees say the system unfairly penalized workers who took protected leave.

Then inflation dropped from 4.2% to 3.5% last month — the largest single-month decrease in four years — driven largely by falling gas prices during the ceasefire, with core inflation down to 2.6%. And Justices Elena Kagan and Amy Coney Barrett testified jointly before Congress requesting increased security funding — with Barrett revealing that six weeks ago her teenage son opened the front door to find their street filled with police cars responding to a swatting attack on their home. Supreme Court Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Elena Kagan are set to testify on Tuesday on the proposed $228 million 2027 budget. The nation's highest court is seeking a total of $228.4 million for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1, a $20.6 million increase over the current year.President Donald Trump on Tuesday welcomed Iraq's new prime minister to the White House. Ali al-Zaidi, a businessman with no political background, emerged as a consensus candidate in Iraq after months of deadlock over the premiership following last year's parliamentary elections. The issue of Iran is likely to loom large in the discussions. Iraq has been under pressure to disarm a network of Iran-backed militias operating in the country, some of which launched attacks on U.S. bases and diplomatic facilities after the United States and Israel launched a war against Iran in February.

Zaidi, perhaps the weakest prime minister to take office since the U.S. invasion in 2003, faces a sovereignty crisis of epic proportions from his first day in office. Bi. Mutavati amesema wanawake na wasichana ni miongoni mwa waliouawa katika mashambulizi ya kulengwa, ikiwemo shambulio la Machi katika Eneo la Utawala la Ruweng lililosababisha vifo vya watu wasiopungua 169 akionya kuwa ghasia zinazidi kuongeza hatari kwa wale waliokwishakimbia makazi yao. Pia ameeleza wasiwasi kuhusu kusambaratika kwa huduma muhimu, akisema uporaji na uharibifu wa vituo vya afya umeacha wanawake bila huduma muhimu za matibabu. “Wanawake wanajifungua bila huduma yoyote ya kitabibu kwa hatari kubwa ya kupoteza maisha,” amesema. UN Women inakadiria wanawake na wasichana milioni 5 nchini Sudan Kusini wanahitaji msaada wa kibinadamu mwaka huu, wakiwemo milioni 2.5 wanaohitaji huduma zinazohusiana na ukatili wa kijinsia.Akitoa wito wa hatua za haraka, Bi. Mutavati amesema uongozi wa wanawake lazima ubaki kuwa kiini cha juhudi za amani na ametoa wito wa kuheshimiwa kwa kiwango cha asilimia 35 cha uwakilishi wa wanawake serikalini chini ya makubaliano ya amani. “Hakuna njia ya amani ya kudumu iliyothibitika zaidi kuliko uongozi wa wanawake,” amesema, huku pia akitaka ufadhili kwa mashirika yanayoongozwa na wanawake na msaada kwa kaya zinazoongozwa na wanawake. Wakati Sudan Kusini ikielekea katika uchaguzi wa mwaka huu 2026, Mkurugenzi huyo wa Kanda ya Afrika Mashariki na Kusini mwa Afrika wa UN Women ametoa wito wa kuwepo kwa mchakato wa uchaguzi unaoaminika, jumuishi na wa uwazi unaohakikisha ushiriki wa wanawake katika kila hatua. Amenukuliwa akisema, “tunatoa wito wa utekelezaji kamili na wa haraka” wa makubaliano ya amani,  na akasisitiza kuwa kulinda wanawake na wasichana na kuhakikisha wanashiriki katika uamuzi ni msingi wa kufikia amani ya kudumu.

Jukwaa la Kudumu la Umoja wa Mataifa kuhusu Masuala ya Watu wa Asili (UNPFII) limefungua kikao chake cha ishirini na tano leo Aprili 20 katika Makao Makuu ya Umoja wa Mataifa mjini New York, Marekani likiadhimisha miaka 25 tangu kuanzishwa kwake kama jukwaa la kipekee la kimataifa linalowakutanisha wadau kuhusu Watu wa Asili. Kikao hiki kinafanyika katika muktadha wa changamoto zinazoendelea duniani, zikiwemo afya, migogoro na ukosefu wa usawa. Pia kinakuja wakati ambapo mfumo wa ushirikiano wa kimataifa, ndani ya mfumo wa mipango kama Mpango wa Mageuzi ya Umoja wa Mataifa, UN80 unakabiliwa na mahitaji yanayoongezeka ya ujumuishwaji, uhalali na ufanisi. Uchambuzi mpya wa utafiti uliotolewa leo Aprili 17 na Shirika la Umoja wa Mataifa la Masuala ya Wanawake, UN Women umeweka wazi kuwa zaidi ya wanawake na wasichana 38,000 wameauawa kati ya mwezi Oktoba mwaka 2023 na Desemba 2025 huko Ukanda wa Gaza, eneo la Palestina linalokaliwa kimabavu na Israel ikiwa ni wastani wa takribani wanawake na wasichana 47 wanaouawa kila siku. Hata hivyo, ndani ya UN kumekuwa na maendeleo muhimu katika kuongeza uwakilishi wa wanawake katika nafasi za juu za uongozi.Kwa mujibu wa Katibu Mkuu huyo, wakati alipoanza uongozi wake, alijiwekea lengo la kuhakikisha kunakuwa na uwiano sawa kati ya wanawake na wanaume katika ngazi za juu za uongozi wa Umoja wa Mataifa. Leo, amesema lengo hilo limefikiwa.(SG cut2 – Fiesal )“Kwa mara ya kwanza katika historia ya Umoja wa Mataifa, wanawake sasa wanaunda nusu kamili ya nguvu kazi ya Umoja wa Mataifa katika vitengo vya kitaaluma na vya juu zaidi. Na kwa mara ya kwanza, tulifikia usawa katika uongozi mkuu. Tumefanya hivyo ikiwa ni miaka miwili kabla ya ratiba - lakini pia natambua imekuwa ni miaka 80 imechelewa.”Katika hotuba yake, Katibu Mkuu wa António Guterres amesisitiza kuwa kufikia usawa wa kijinsia si suala la haki kwa wanawake pekee, bali ni hatua muhimu kwa maendeleo ya dunia nzima.
