Steve Martin plays Neal Page, an overworked executive just trying to get home two days before Thanksgiving to his family. Del Griffith is a loud mouth overweight blabber mouth salesman that seemingly loves only to talk people to death, followed by enjoying life as a perpetual slob. But this odd couple gets stuck together, and they have the road trip of a lifetime via planes, trains, buses, and automobiles. Along with way hands are shoved into butts, the F-Bomb is laced together in a way that'll make your mother cry with tears and your dad cry with laughter, and six different Dodge LeBaron's give their life to become so famous as the best buddy car of all time that it ended up in Deadpool and and Wolverine. This is an absolutely perfect, quotable, re-watchable, funny, thoughtful, sad, loving, and hilarious movie that we'll all watch on Thanksgiving until we die. 10 Turkey Rolls! Legit Movie Car Facts: -Six custom-painted, green 1986 Dodge 600 convertibles served as comic relief throughout the movie modified with the Lebaron grille, headlights, taillights, and wood siding. . The cars were re-branded as a fictional Gran Detroit, Farm and Country Edition. -Chrysler wanted no part of any relationship with the car. -No actual Town & Country convertibles were destroyed during filming because the studio found plain '86 Dodge 600s and Chrysler LeBarons, painted them green, and then applied the stock wood trim afterward. -Special “D” hood badges replaced Chrysler ones on convertibles used in the movie. -It is so famous that it made a cameo in Dealpool vs Wolverine -The enormous wire wheel covers were a joke. -The color green was chosen by John Hughes himself to go with the wood siding. The car is a nod to another famous Hughes movie car, the Family Truckster from National Lampoons Vacation. -Only one of the cars survived and was repainted a cream color. It was last seen in Los Angeles in 2009. ======================================== Join up via Patreon at patreon.com/KFSHOW Kibbe, Corndog, and the Bern! The Mercedes-Benz GLS Class might have started out without the S in its name, but after the company shook up its crossover and SUV portfolio, it ascended to the top of the Mercedes hierarchy. The Mercedes GLS-Class functions effectively as the S-Class of its crossover and SUV lineup, and sports the largest footprint you'll find on a road-going ‘Benz. This three-row Family Truckster saw a styling refresh last year, for the 2024 model year. This brings a new grille, and a new front fascia, among other more subtle styling changes. Thankfully, the 4.0-liter V8 stuck around in standard in GLS 580 guise. This V8 sends 510 hp and 538 lb-ft of torque through a nine-speed automatic. From there, the power travels to all four wheels by way of the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek's executive editor Tom Murphy hops behind the wheel of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 and puts it through its paces. Murphy takes you on a guided tour of the GLS 580 and highlights some of his favorite features and what's new for '24. Later. Murphy takes you on a live drive review of the latest GLS-Class. Adding to these segments, Murphy chats with host Wesley Wren about the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, the competition, and more. Closing the show, the pair break down what makes this GLS special.
Beer and other things for a laid back week.We took a bit of a road trip last weekend to beautiful Cartersville, GA to visit the Savoy Auto Museum. I can't explain the allure of Cartersville to museums, but they have 4 in a town of like 20,000 people. Crazy, right? The Savoy was a fun trip. Lots of classic cars, race cars, and a handful of famous cars from movies - like the Family Truckster from Vacation. Neat. After our museum trip we headed over to Drowned Valley Brewing to try their World Beer Cup medal winning Bartow Brown. Definitely a winner. We also discovered a quirky beer bar with a crazy beer list. All in all our road trip was a successful one.We recap some Cinco de Mayo drinks, make our plans for the upcoming American Craft Beer Week, share some more BrewDog stories, crazy Ballast Point updates, and some science behind the perfect serving temperatures for beer. Thanks for listening to Beer Guys Radio! Episode 96: “The Station Wagon Show: Country Squires, Roadmasters, Vista Cruisers, and whatever Clark Griswold drove”In this episode, producer Phil Tower plus hosts Al Schwinkendorf and John Puhek talk about the much-maligned but now making a comeback station wagon. We spend the first part of the episode talking about a very rare 1996 Buick Roadmaster that is up for auction on the Hagerty marketplace website. The 1996 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon was basically a Cadillac with a Buick nameplate. It was decked out with a plush cabin, and a massive V8 and it amazingly offered seating for eight thanks to a collapsible rear-facing third seat. And speaking of what's under the hood, this wagon has a 5.7-liter ‘LT1' V8 which was also found in the C4 Corvette. Buick stopped making this beastly wagon in 1996, marking the last full-size, body-on-frame, rear-wheel drive station wagon produced by an American automakerIt's interesting to note that station wagons reached their sales peak in 1976 when U.S. sales stood at 972,212 and accounted for 10% of all vehicles sold in the U.S. That same year, there were 62 station wagon models available to American car buyers. You read that correctly… 62 different station wagon models! We also talk about the amazing Ford Country Squire wagon... Another huge, best seller. And believe it or not, there seems to be a resurgence in wagons so to speak, including the diehards to attend the Radwood Festivals around the country. And this wouldn't be a show about station wagons if we didn't talk about the iconic and lovably ridiculous Griswold Family Truckster wagon. Oh, yes, we went there. And then Al decided to reminisce about the amazing HearseFest. Yes, it's really a thing and we have the link so you can learn more about it below.Michigan's AutoTalk podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeartRadio, Google Podcasts, Amazon Audio, Spreaker.com, Deezer, and Podcatcher. Please don't forget to LIKE our Facebook page! As the summer winds down, we take one more trip down that holiday road with a look at the music of National Lampoon's Vacation! Clark Griswold's mission to drive his family to Walley World is one of the quintessential 80s comedies, with a ridiculously catchy theme song to boot! Lindsey Buckingham's immortal earworm "Holiday Road" anchors a soundtrack that features the likes of June Pointer, Vanity 6, The Ramones and Nicolette Larson. Larson's song "Summer Hearts" doesn't actually appear in the film, but we discovered there's a very good reason for that. So fasten your seatbelts and join us as we take this Family Truckster off road! SHOW NOTES FOR THIS EPISODE: Vacation is available to stream here! This July, we're packing up the Family Truckster and going on vacation! Summer is a time for family vacations, road trips, and all the chaos that comes with it. All your hosts at PCY (except maybe one part-timer) are huge fans of the original Vacation movie series. So it felt like a great idea to use this opportunity for another very special set of episodes. There are four original Vacation movies, so we're going to go for it, Honey! Up first, 1983's National Lampoon's Vacation. Pete, Giff, and Brad break it down as only they can. Hear why Brad thinks Chevy Chase could have won an Oscar. Keep listening for Giff's college viewing days with the "classics." Stay for Pete's memories of renting movies as a family back in the day. For each of us this is probably one of the most "important" films of our lives. It has meant so much to all of us and we were so excited to kick off this set by breaking it down. From Chicago to St. Louis to Wally World; from Cousin Eddie's farm to Aunt Edna riding on the roof through Phoenix; from camping in Colorado to a glimpse of the Grand Canyon, we got you covered. We're proud of this one. Enjoy!Want to support our show? The original 1983 National Lampoon's Vacation is considered one of the greatest comedies of all time, and it is. The centerpiece of this saga about a family trip gone horribly wrong is the Wagon Queen Family Truckster - a vehicle that embodies everything that was wrong with the American family car at the height of the malaise era. James and Sid are joined by comedian Jim Seward to talk Vacation - both the movie and their personal experiences on long trips with kids in the car and every family's love/hate relationship with the American station wagon. Did the Family Truckster help put an end to the station wagon? Was the Truckster really that different from the Ford LTD Country Squire it was based on? Did the big 3 make these station wagons because they hated their customers? Enjoy Reels and Wheels on iTunes or Stitcher, subscribe and leave feedback! Before we flash back in time we want to remind you of our upcoming Listener Request episode! We want you to call in your hard rock/metal song request on our hotline and we'll play our favorite requests on the show! The number to call is (540) - DBGEEK-1 (or (540) 324-3351). That number will take you straight to our voice mail hotline. Don't be shy! We had some great feedback on the recent 1975 Year in Review show so we decided to jump back into the time machine and venture to another year. This time we're going back to the days of Atari, Dr. J, and Metallica before they became sycophantic Lou Reed cohorts. We're heading back to 1983. This Year in Review episode has got a little bit of everything from the pop culture stew of 1983. There was a lot going on in the entertainment world from M.A.S.H. ending its legendary run atop the television world to the release of the tragedy-laden movie version of The Twilight Zone movie. We touch on that stuff but we're a music show, right? The musical landscape of 1983 was certainly varied. The top of the Billboard charts was mostly owned by Michael Jackson as this was the release year for his vaunted Thriller album. Other top pop stars of the year included The Police and a young starlet named Madonna. The hard rock and metal world was certainly in flux in 1983 with grease painted rock legends KISS decided to scrub off the clown white and go au naturele on MTV. A new metal band was starting to make waves in the Bay Area in 1983. Metallica released Kill 'Em All on Megaforce Records and heavy metal was never the same. 1983 was a confusing year for rock legends Alice Cooper and Black Sabbath with the left-of-center releases of DaDa and Born Again respectively. So, break out your Wacky Wallwalkers, strap on your Swatch, and hope into the Family Truckster. It's time to hit the time travel highway to 1983!
