This episode is an amazing and deep conversation with Diana. She shares many insights and wisdom and one in particular is how and why as children we make a choice to be loved instead of being real. She dives in deep and explains what that means from her lens and why she believes we develop and create masks. Diana shares and explains how people can begin to heal and thus peel back the masks that they wear. She shares much of her own personal story throughout the episode and how she got to where she is today. If you would like to be inspired you will want to listen to this interview. “We liberate children not by making them work for our love but by letting them rest in it.” ~Gordon Neufield Listen in for three key takeaways. Hello and welcome back to Non/Native, the podcast that shares conversations between female immigrants, expats and interlopers. This episode features an interview with Diana Gameros, a Mexican musician and activist living in the Bay Area. Diana came to the USA as an undocumented teenager, and her journey to establish permanent residency and the love for her homeland is infused into the music she creates. It was an honor to talk to her about her experience living "in the shadows" while studying, and the emotional moment she was able to go back to Mexico for the first time in 16 years. That particular trip was captured on film in the documentary 'Dear Homeland', produced by KQED, which has just been nominated for a Cine Las Americas award, and will be screened as part of their virtual showcase on July 18th. Diana Davis moved from Colorado to New York without a job and just enough money to last three months. In this interview, I ask her how her choices finally got her dream job in the toughest city in the world.02:29 Diana gives us a glimpse into her background and how she realized that if she wanted to work with companies in New York, she'd have to live in that city.05:17 How Diana harnessed her intuition and trusted that the universe had something good planned for her. A book she highly recommends to help create an abundance mindset is 'You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life' by Jen Sincero.10:46 Diana didn't begin her journey in New York as a photographer. Her brother advised that she stop applying from Colorado and start building connections with the companies she wants to work at. Here she explains how LinkedIn and persistence got her amazing advice and her first job in the big city.17:38 Society would tell us to hand on to our well-paying jobs and security, but Diana decided to take a leap of faith when the time came. She tells us how getting laid off freed her to pursue the career in photography she'd always wanted.24:14 Figuring out what you want can be really hard. Diana advises trying everything, but only put the work you're proud of in your portfolio because that's what you want to be hired for. She also emphasizes why her clients come back to her - it's not just the photography skills, it's their connection with her.27:30 Diana wasn't always into wellness, but working with food and a need to work with brands that inspire her pulled her into circles of people who thrive in this world. She explains how integrating things that excite you into your work can push you towards success.32:19 What are the questions we should be asking ourselves on this journey? According to Diana, it's vital that you always judge whether the work you take on feeds your soul. Check if you're anxious, hating the work, or does it feel good. If it's meant to be, the universe will let you know.36:26 Find Diana on Instagram & ask her a question @dianadaviscreative.

I love doing this podcast because it's an opportunity to talk to people with a completely different skillset and set of experiences. I so loved talking with Diana for this reason. She's a social media expert that has worked for larger corporations, non-profits, small businesses, and for herself. She uses these experiences to craft social media strategies for her clients. We had a wonderful conversation that ranged from the nitty-gritty of social media strategy to the over-arching role that social media can play in our lives. It was a beautiful conversation, and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did. Diana Morales is the founder of Lust Local Media - a full service Social Media Consulting Firm. Diana actually began her career in social media when she was working in Corporate Recruiting at the Lucas Group. During this time, Diana was able to master Social Media Management, working under the wing of one of the top ranked recruiters in the country, Diana was able to establish a savvy social media strategy that would leap the firms visibility in the online world.
