" was inspired by the human presence, so transient and passing in relation to the constant swirl of the sea and wind. I liked the sound of the natural forces and began to think of power, giants, myths, and stories given to landscape. "When I first heard the sound I was in Llanberis in North Wales, I spend a lot of time there, and often walk through another heritage site, Dinorwig Slate Quarry, an excavation into the mountain, Elidir. When the conditions are right we can see the Irish coastline from the quarry and I began to imagine a dialogue between the scarred Elidir and Fionn Mac Cumhaill, calling across the sea. "I was conscious of the difference between the two sites, one a natural formation, with its basalt columns, and the other man made, its slate exported worldwide. I wanted to respond with sounds generated locally by the elements. I was keen to use recordings I had gathered in the quarry - the wind through pipes and machinery left in situ - and also the 'organ pipe' like formation of the basalt columns. I found the lowest notes on a chapel organ to give weight and resonance to the recording. "I think the piece is rather more suggestive of a giant being gently woken than the conversation I originally imagined."
The man who ate the Salmon of Knowledge was a complex character and not always likeable, but he was certainly thought-provoking

Patrick is joined by a number of experts on one of Ireland's most famous mythical figures
Welcome back to the Candlelit Tales Podcast. For the month of March, we are sharing stories of our island's patron Saint. And one of the best stories of Patrick is the story of his strange friendship with an odd old man, who claimed to be a hero of legend. After the fall of the Fianna, Oisín, son of Fionn Mac Cumhaill, lived in the land of eternal youth, heedless of the centuries slipping by. When he came back to Ireland to visit his father, he found a place changed beyond recognition, and when time caught up with him, he was brought to the wisest man in Ireland at that time: Patrick, the prophet of a new faith. This is the story of what happened next. This story is told by Aron in a special live recording, with live musical accompaniment by Oisín Ryan. And there can be no stories of Patrick without tales of the heroes who came before him. The Fianna were the warriors and guardians of ancient Ireland, captained by the great Fionn Mac Cumhaill. But all good things come to an end, and little by little, the Fianna diminished. The Myth. As legend has it. With a different way explained with a story the Northern Ireland was once home to a giant named Finn McCool (also called Fionn Mac Cumhaill). When another giant – Benandonner, across the Irish Sea in Scotland – threatened Ireland, Finn retaliated by tearing up great chunks of the Antrim coastline and hurling them into the sea.Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/creepypasta)Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched! We found the story of Éachtach in Richard Marsh’s book, Irish King and Hero Tales, translated from an Old Irish poem. And we’ve found it nowhere else. http://richardmarsh.ie/LegendaryBooks.htm She’s the daughter of Diarmuid and Gráinne, two of the most famous characters in Irish mythology, and a formidable warrior who defeated the great Captain of the Fianna, Fionn Mac Cumhaill, and isn’t it strange that nobody has ever heard of her? This telling was recorded live at the Sugar Club in Dublin in February 2020. Told by Sorcha Hegarty with music by Oisín Ryan, Ru O’Sé and Audrey Trainor. The pursuit of Diamruid and Gráinne is one of the great Irish love stories. It has all the right ingredients: epic, romantic, unbelievably tragic... It's also quite long, so we've split it into two parts. In this part, meet the High King's daughter, Gráinne, who can find no good reason to refuse a proposal from the great Fionn Mac Cumhaill... until she actually meets him. Happy New Now folks! We are bringing you a very special treat for your senses in this episode. The Fianna were lead by the great warrior Fionn Mac Cumhaill. And he had the wisdom of this world and the next. He had burnt his thumb on the Salmon of Knowledge when he was young, and in this short story, he imparts a beautifully simplistic message that we want to share with you. In this episode, Aron talks to the third founding member of Candlelit Tales, Ru O’Shea. Ru brought the music to CT back in 2014 when we started off in the Stags Head so long ago (feels like yesterday… dang timey wimey). And since then Ru has been on an epic journey of discovery himself. He has trained to become a music teacher and become a trained sound practitioner, as well as continuously performing with us as both a musician (of many instruments) and as a Storyteller in our live shows as well. We speak about sound, the therapeutic nature of it and our upcoming Storytelling and Sound Bath experience. In this episode, we tell the story of the birth and boyhood of one of Ireland’s greatest heroes: Fionn Mac Cumhaill. But this story isn’t about Fionn, so much as it is about the women who raised him, shaped him, and made him the man he was. We talk about the place of the Fianna in old Irish society, and the women of the Fianna who have been forgotten. On the coast of Northern Ireland lies a remarkable feature: a field of more than 40,000 interlocking hexagonal columns, leading down into the sea. To the ancient Irish, the basalt columns -- the result of a long ago volcanic eruption -- seemed like the foundations of a bridge made for giants. And so they are still called the Giant's Causeway to this day. On this abnormally long episode, we discuss the mythological origins of the causeway and the legendary Irish hero, Fionn Mac Cumhaill, a.k.a. Finn McCool. While the physical bridge to Scotland might be a myth, other connections in the early medieval period were very much evident. Dr. Lucy Barnhouse (@singingscholar), medieval historian and contributor to @historyfootnote, drops wisdom about Irish monasticism and its impact in Ireland and abroad. We discuss the beer-multiplying, chariot-riding St. Brigid, the hot-tempered St Columba, and the wandering St. Columbanus. In addition, listeners Jenn and Diarmuid talk about their experiences visiting the causeway and reflections on the North. We also discuss Game of Thrones locations, surfing off the Antrim Coast, and the joy of grabbing a pint in an Irish pub. There's Irish butter and soda bread and more Houses of the Holy references than are necessary. (That 1973 Led Zeppelin album features the Giant's Causeway on the cover). We continue our look into the beginnings of the Fenian cycle with a grisly plot item, a definitive answer to the question of whether fish-oils are good for the brain (in very specific circumstances), one weird trick to beat narcolepsy and an obligatory climactic shown down for the young Fionn Mac Cumhaill. Fionn mac Cumhaill transcribed in English as Finn McCool or Finn MacCoul, was a mythical hunter-warrior of Irish mythology, occurring also in the mythologies of Scotland and the Isle of Man. The stories of Fionn and his followers the Fianna, form the Fenian Cycle (or Fiannaidheacht), much of it purported to be narrated by Fionn's son, the poet Oisín. "Fionn" is actually a nickname meaning "blond", "fair", "white", or "bright". His childhood name was Deimne literally "sureness" or "certainty", and several legends tell how he gained the nickname when his hair turned prematurely white. The name "Fionn" is related to the Welsh name "Gwyn", as in the mythological figure Gwyn ap Nudd, and to the continental Celtic "Vindos", an epithet for the god Belenus. The 19th-century Irish revolutionary organisation known as the Fenian Brotherhood took its name from these legends. Source: Wikipedia
