It's easy to see that Christmas is commercialized in our culture, but does that mean Christians shouldn't celebrate it? What about the Christians who celebrate Christmas and do Santa with their kids? Is that a sin? Shanda talks about Christmas myths and legends and the importance of a Christian's abiliity to explain why the virgin birth doesn't fall into either of these genres. Finally, Shanda touches on the "Christmas is pagan" debate and how to respond. Advent Study and 2025 Madalynn Faith Planner at Shandafulbright.com/shop. Jeff Ignatowski - BEYOND THE HEADLINES: True Crime's Myths & Legends: True Crime's Myths and Legends2 days agoMore than a collection of dramatically told true crime stories, Ignatowski's anthology challenges and explores the integrity of widespread myths surrounding infamous personalities such as Jack The Ripper, Dennis Rader, Elizabeth Bathory, Ed Gein, and Ted Bundy. It provides a deeper understanding of their stories through historical insight, criminological analysis, and a careful separation of fact from fiction.Having spent years counseling incarcerated youth offenders and studying serial killer psychology through his collaboration with other true crime and forensic psychiatry experts, he examines in BEYOND THE HEADLINES how these narratives have been molded by and, in turn, shaped public beliefs and media representations.BEYOND THE HEADLINES invites readers to reconsider what they think they know about these "monsters" and their crimes. By challenging conventional narratives, readers will come away with a deeper understanding.bookBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

Hello out there! Yes, you're hearing us! A new episode! Here on the train, we like to take you listeners worldwide and dive into legends, monsters, and other crazy tales from the past. But we thought, you know what? Why not take listeners worldwide on a trip into our past here in America. Sure, our country may not be as old as other parts of the world, but our native cultures still have legends & monsters from the past that are equally as interesting, fun, and crazy. We decided to dive into some of the crazy myths and legends of our own natives' past. We've all heard the stories of the Wendigo and the skinwalkers, but that's not where we're going today. You passengers know we've discussed both of those in other episodes. We will look at other legends that may be less well known but people out there, including our fellow Americans. Remember to spread the word, tell your friends and family and leave us a review wherever you can! Want to be cooler than a polar bear's toenails? Story One – America's VampiresOver the decades, successive literary and cinematic offerings have gradually bastardised the original interpretation of the vampire from that of a terrifying and murderous monster, into a somewhat romanticised and almost comedic caricature. But the reality behind the concept of vampirism is far removed from the fantasy, borne out of a flurry of brutal and truly horrifying murders. In this story, we meet America's Vampires.Story Two – The Scourge of the SkinwalkerFor centuries, the most southerly regions of the United States have been plagued by stories of strange beings that travel under the cover of darkness, attacking any human beings they encounter without fear or remorse. In our second story, we explore the Scourge of the Skinwalker.MUSIC Tracks used by kind permission of Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0Tracks used by kind permission of CO.AGSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Is that a sin? Shanda talks about Christmas myths and legends and the importance of a Christian's abiliity to explain why the virgin birth doesn't fall into either of these genres. I grew up in Upstate NY with my parents and 2 sisters, whom are featured in many of my books, including "Dim Sum For Everyone!" and my novels, "The Year of the Dog" and "The Year of the Rat." My mother and I were the star characters in my first book, "The Ugly Vegetables"--I cut both my sisters out of that story! They were quite upset with me and made me promise never to cut them out again. And since then, I haven't...yet. While many of my books highlight my family, not all of them do. My Newbery Honor-winning novel "Where the Mountain Meets the Moon," is an Asian inspired fantasy that some people call a Chinese 'Wizard of Oz,' and my early reader "Ling & Ting" is inspired by the old 'Flicka, Dicka & Ricka' books I read when I was young. I hope you enjoy my books. Please visit my website: www.gracelin.com for more info about them (behind the scene stories and pictures) as well as other amusing anecdotes! In this seasonal podcast Julia Golding and Jacob Rennaker take a crack at the long history of eggs in myths and legends, venturing from there into fantasy stories. Where can we find Humpty Dumpty, and what do Dorothy and Oz have to do with eggs? We find Tolkien and eggs scrambled together with the Kalevala and encounter plenty of other eggs within the world of Harry Potter. We also take a deep dive into the idea of the Easter bunny. What are the common themes between all of these mythical worlds and beings? And, of course, where is the best place in all the fantasy worlds to hatch from an egg?

A series of historical events seem to have been crafted after plot elements in Philip Sidney's book "Arcadia" that was first published in 1580. This examination may apply to the stories of Star Castle on the Isles of Scilly, the execution of Charles II, The English Civil War, Oak Island, and the Newport Tower to name a few. This book is a continuation of my last book "Oak Island and the Arcadian Mysteries." Given that each book stands on its own and may be read separately. Discussed here is a chronology of a value of the Arcadian theme and how many of the same family names and themes are repeated at Oak Island Nova Scotia, Shugborough Hall in England, and Rennes le Chateau in France.
