Equinix, the digital infrastructure company, has launched a guide to encourage effective and efficient management of digital files, and raise awareness of how this can support mental wellbeing. Many of us are hoarding tens - or even hundreds - of thousands of photos, emails, and documents, never to be viewed again. Dr Susan Albers, a clinical psychologist at the Cleveland Clinic, recently stated that storing too many digital items on our devices can lead to anxiety and stress. In fact, she says, it can be just as stressful as having a cluttered home, as our brains yearn for simplicity. In reality, our digital clutter does have a physical presence… in data centres. Equinix has approximately 270 data centres around the world with an extraordinary amount of data flowing through them. Digital infrastructure, serving as the backbone of today's economy, encompasses connectivity that touches our everyday lives. It connects all of our digital devices and enables everything from online banking to improved health diagnoses, to communicating with friends and family, and getting us to work (think: digital travelcards, wallets, alarms and our entertainment or email-checking on the way into the office). While data has brought untold benefits to human capabilities and our societies, the amount of information and images we are exposed to everyday can be overwhelming. To address this issue, Equinix has teamed up with Sarah Reynolds, founder of Organised Chaos, a company helping individuals to unclutter their daily lives - both physically and virtually. Top 10 Tips for digital wellness: 1- Make a checklist. Make a list of everything you want to clear out. This could be photos and videos, emails, drives, or apps on your phone. Then target one area at a time, once per week. By working on just one area at a time, you will focus the mind. Within two months, with consistency, you will find yourself in much better shape. 2 - Streamline your photos and videos. Photos and videos are one of the main culprits of device clutter, causing undue stress and frustration when a person can't find the file they are looking for. This can be made more manageable by creating folders - using dates or categories - on your device, or through a secure third-party storage application. While you're organising, why not create a "Print" folder - next time you are at a shop, you can print the items in the folder and enjoy your best snaps. Once you have organised and categorised the images you want to keep, you can delete any unwanted or duplicated files. Result: less stuff holding you back and less cost for storage! 3- Aim for inbox zero. Newsletters and email alerts are a major factor in clogging up inboxes, but inbox zero is possible! Many email providers offer notifications for when you are subscribing to email updates you don't read. There are also apps available that can unsubscribe you in bulk. This will help to streamline existing emails. Then, make yourself a policy that every time you receive an email you know you don't want to read, unsubscribe immediately. Additionally, consider a separate email address only to be used for subscriptions. For emails you want to keep, use your folder system to categorise emails by topic or sender. 4 - Organise your computer - desktop, downloads and files. Just as a countertop is not for storing items from the kitchen and things with no 'home', or a desk surface is not for storing office items (this may come as a surprise to some!) - a desktop is not for storing digital files. Start your desktop cleanup by sorting everything into folders. Then, take a look at your downloaded files, which can often be a source of digital junk! Make sure you have everything you need saved and categorised, while deleting anything you don't need. Finally, ensure that every file on your computer has a folder and that every folder has a label. This is perhaps a once-a-year job, but it is good to go through each folder and make sure the files within are ...

Marketing is a serious business. Even when it's silly.See, you still want your silly, funny content to be well planned, well-executed, and well distributed. In this episode, we're talking about how to take your sillies seriously. That's one of the marketing lessons we're taking from Hamburger Helper's Watch the Stove Mixtape. With the help of our special guest, HiBob CMO Sarah Reynolds, we also talk about how to run little content experiments, listening to your customers, and doubling down on your big wins.About our guest, Sarah ReynoldsSarah Reynolds (they/them) is Chief Marketing Officer at HiBob. An openly non-binary executive, Sarah writes widely about diversity and inclusion, pay equity, the future of work, and the intersection of bias, ethics, and technology. They love spicy food, and can frequently be found in their garden tending to their many varieties of hot chili pepper plants. What B2B Companies Can Learn From Hamburger Helper:Take your sillies seriously. If you're going to make funny or silly content, it should still be well planned and executed. Otherwise it can come off as cringey and become something you're not proud of. Ian says, “ [Hamburger Helper] did take the art part of [the mixtape] seriously. And that's when the music is actually good. If it was a stupid a** song that sounded bad, it would not have gone viral. It wouldn't have been popular.”Run little content experiments. Before you go through all the trouble of building out a campaign, tease the idea to your audience and see what catches. Ian says, “ I love the little cheap or free experiments that you can run by just throwing the tweet out there, putting it in an article, putting it in your newsletter, teasing something. So few people tease stuff because they're worried that if they don't do it, that somehow this is going to like disappoint some corporate overlords. But if you tease something and nobody ever asks you about it ever again, you probably shouldn't have made it in the first place. If you tease something and you don't do it and people ask you about it, then you have more reason to go make the thing.” Hamburger Helper's mascot, Lefty, tweeted about dropping a mixtape and it was the tweet that got the most engagement. So when their marketing team was tasked with doing something unique and different, they knew it was time to make the mixtape.Listen to your customers. If you tease your content ideas and you get lots of engagement, make the content. Give the people what they want. Sarah says, “ The original idea for [the mixtape] was a tweet from multiple years before the mixtape dropped where Lefty made a joke about releasing a mixtape and suddenly it was their most liked tweet of all time. And then subsequently over the intervening years, would make occasional jokes about the mixtapes almost ready and like the customers, the fans are like, ‘Yes, do it. I dare you.' And I mean at that point, you got years of data saying customers want this, right? Is it our core business? No, but let's see what happens if we give it to them.”If you have a big win, make a sequel. Or even a series. Like Hamburger Helper should have made a second or even third mixtape because this one did so well. Ian says, “ Once you have a hit, just keep winning.  It's so hard in the marketing world to ever give anybody something that they love. And once you do it, you just gotta keep going with it.  I think my biggest takeaway is once you find something good, build it into a series.”Quotes*"My first focus was inclusivity and accessibility. Let's make sure that the way that we represent ourselves is really holding true to our corporate values that focus on DEIB, that really speaks to every single person that we want to. Let's make sure that we look at things like color contrast. Let's make sure that we look at things like the typography that we're using and the brand styling that we're using, and we're making it so that it's accessible to all of the people that we want to reach, not just because my queer, disabled, non binary a** told you to do so, but because this is genuinely what we believe as a brand, and this is what we want to put out into the world, and this is what we want people to know about us, we want to lead in this space. So does that come with a very clear, direct ROI number? No, it doesn't. It comes with doing the right thing and being different and making sure that we're prioritizing the things that really matter to us and to our community and to our audience. We're being something for someone in a way that maybe not every brand in this space is thinking about.”Time Stamps[0:55] Meet Sarah Reynolds, CMO at HiBob[1:16] The Origin of the 'Watch the Stove' Mixtape[4:03] HiBob: Revolutionizing HR Tech[5:44] Creating the ‘Watch the Stove' Mixtape: From Idea to Execution[11:12] The Impact and Legacy of 'Watch the Stove'[33:00] Risks and Rewards in Marketing[36:18] The Power of Listening to Customers[43:31] Embracing Authenticity in Marketing[45:28] Content That Provides Value[49:43] Balancing Data and Vibes[54:55] Final Thoughts and PlugsLinksConnect with Sarah on LinkedInLearn more about HiBobAbout Remarkable!Remarkable! is created by the team at Caspian Studios, the premier B2B Podcast-as-a-Service company. Whether we know it or not - all human beings have an internal thermostat, a certain level of abundance, joy or success we're calibrated to. If we're not careful, that level can make us blow up our lives and self-sabotage when we get everything we've always wanted.    Call it your comfort zone, your average or your upper limit problem, this internal temperature gauge runs our lives, and often runs us into the ground if we don't do something about it. Our comfort zones are wrapped up in our identity, and anytime we have to assume a new identity, our brains can fight us and ratchet us down to the standard they are used to.    It's how we can lose all the weight and then start eating junk food, or how we can achieve a financial goal and then make a bad decision with money. Without fixing this problem, we're doomed to create unnecessary drama in our lives, constantly sabotage ourselves, taking 2 steps forward and 5 steps back.    How do we become aware of our own upper limit and start to raise the temperature? Real estate leader, entrepreneur, coach, speaker and Head of Industry at PLACE, Vija Williams talks about how a season of intense personal growth helped her break through her upper limit problem and become 100 times lighter emotionally.  Quotes    Conquering some upper limit problems is the number 1 most important thing I've done. -Vija Williams    90% of getting past an upper limit problem is just awareness. Anytime you see yourself sabotaging, take some white space time and ask, “what am I not admitting to myself right now?” -Vija Williams    I have learned to think in questions, not answers. -Vija Williams    I'm a big fan of asking myself questions, that's my awareness tool. -Kevin Kauffman  Key Points     How to identify an upper limit problem  A sure sign of having an upper limit problem is sabotaging yourself when you've succeeded at something or got what you want. You hit your weight loss target and immediately binge on junk food. You make money and then go and spend a ton of money unnecessarily. In real estate, it's having a really great listing appointment but procrastinating and failing to follow up. All these are signs that we're trying to ratchet our lives back down to an underlying identity.    Crossover self-sabotage  Upper limit problems don't always manifest in the same place. Instead of sabotaging your weight loss results by eating a bunch of junk food, you could lose weight and then go and needlessly spend a bunch of money. You can actually cross-sabotage ourselves without even knowing it by blowing your life up in a completely different area.    Intense Clusters of Growth  Personal growth can happen gradually over time, but sometimes we go through intense clusters of personal growth that concentrate the learning and also concentrate the results. Often we'll feel that we're gaining momentum, and no one sees it, and that's the hardest part of the journey. If you're still going through the process, and it seems like no one's seeing it, keep going. If you keep your eye on the prize, the change in you will become very obvious on the surface.    The right question, not the right answer  Asking ourselves questions is one of the most powerful awareness we have. When we're aware enough of what's going on in our lives, we can ask ourselves high quality questions that move the needle. In coaching, a session should end with the right focusing question, not the answer. Then someone sits down and unpeels the layers to get to the right thing for them.    Sneaky ways your upper limit problem creeps up on us  Another sneaky way an upper limit problem presents itself is avoiding taking risks to create or maintain stability. It's having all the money to buy an investment property and just not being able to pull the trigger. It might also manifest in an inability to celebrate big wins, or having an unquenchable, undisciplined pursuit of more.    Guest Info   Vija Williams is an entrepreneur, 2nd generation Realtor, coach, speaker and Head of Industry at PLACE. She is the president of Ben Kinney Brokerages. Under her leadership the eight offices had explosive growth: climbing from 1,330 agents to over 1,700, amounting to a 23% increase in agent count and 25% growth in sales volume. Vija also owns and runs Vija Real Estate powered by PLACE. This team of residential real estate specialists focuses on the move-up and luxury segments in the Seattle, Washington market.
