Le jeu de rôle et l'écriture romanesque sont proches voisins, et ceux et celles qui pratiquent l'un viennent souvent à l'autre ! En quoi les deux activités se nourrissent-elles, mais aussi, quelles sont les différences de pratique à conserver en mémoire ? Mélanie n'est pas rôliste, mais elle connaît et situe l'activité et son poids dans l'imaginaire, alors que pour Estelle, c'était sa première école d'écriture ; elle en propose les forces majeures pour le romanesque, en particulier la connaissance d'univers et la plasticité intellectuelle. Lionel liste davantage de différences (notamment la visée ludique du jeu n'est pas celle de la fiction), mais rappelle que l'esprit de cocréation peut être vu comme identique dans les deux activités. The Templars aim to create a “perfect society” ruled by order and discipline, a goal that is in direct opposition to the ideals of the Brotherhood, which strives to defend the free will of humankind. A tool for the Brotherhood to regain lost ground in the war is the Animus device, technology stolen from the Templars which allows for the exploration of memories encoded in human DNA. Using the Animus, the Assassin Brotherhood has a chance to locate the Pieces of Eden, extremely rare and powerful technological artifacts left behind by an ancient civilization. That is the setting of Assassin's Creed©, which you will explore in our upcoming Roleplaying Game that will be available to pre-order on September 5th! Creating a roleplaying game for Assassin's Creed©, generated great excitement in the development team, but also, as expected, lots of questions. How would we transpose such complex lore that encompasses so many characters across different locations and timeframes to the tabletop? So, a custom system was created by Max Castellani and Andrea Macchi, overseen by our Head of RPGs, Francesco Nepitello. The Assassin's Creed RPG uses the Match System, an original set of rules using 2 sets of 6 custom dice (also available as a digital dice roller on the official and free Assassin's Creed RPG App). This system focuses on promoting fast-paced, fiction-first gameplay. Characters choose how they want to approach situations, calling into play 1 of the 4 areas of competence listed on their Character Files. The 4 areas of competence are Action, Stealth, Wits, and Social. The higher the number on their sheet, the more difficult it is for the character, as the player has to roll that number or higher to succeed. Activating a character's signature traits, gear, or quote (if appropriate) can help them roll extra dice, though! Enter the Animus: Exploring the Assassin's Creed Roleplaying Game As a player, you play the role of a modern-day character, the last Descendant of a lineage comprising one or more members of the Assassin Brotherhood. Possibly even one of the iconic assassins from the videogame series! When you enter the Animus, you take part in a Simulation, a three-dimensional virtual reality world reconstructing a significant event in the history of the Brotherhood. In the Simulation, you assume the role of your Ancestor or of another key Witness to the event, a character represented in the game by a card from the Animi Network Card Deck (or by a virtual card on the Assassin's Creed RPG App). During a Simulation, the abilities of your character are replaced by those of the Ancestor or Witness they are synchronizing with. Players won't be playing a single character, but most likely several different ones across different sessions as they explore different events of the past. They will employ skills which are not solely their own, and will have the opportunity to bring those skills in the Modern Day to continue their fight with a newfound special edge. The past itself will be an infinite canvas, as the Reader (the GM) may carry the characters in adventures across the world and its history, at the same time keeping a unified, epic narrative. With simple game mechanics, the Match System encourages players to express their creativity freely and add to the story and the game world itself. This is an RPG, a game where your strongest allies are creativity and imagination. So, now more than ever, nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

Today in a special feature of Meet The Makers, Justin connects with Francesco Nepitello, the co-creator of The One Ring, to talk about the ongoing kickstarter success for it’s second edition, partnering with Free League Games, and the unique foundations of the Lord of the Rings mythology in crafting their game. From Wargames to Boardgames to Role Playing Games Francesco shares with us his past and how he came to fall in love with role playing games. From early days in Venice playing wargames with his brother to the lucky happenstance of getting to meet a legendary game designer and coming to recognize the joy in developing games himself. Francesco is also one of the three creators behind the War of the Ring strategy boardgame and in 2011 co-created the first edition of The One Ring. There And Back Again, A Game Designers Tale For years fans of The One Ring have been waiting on a second edition, a new book that would streamline the old rules and provide a more cohesive experience and iron out what Francesco himself calls the “fiddly bits” of the game. Promises of a second edition and of a Moria campaign setting have gone unanswered as Francesco and his team have battled through complications with their old publisher. But those days are behind them now as they’ve found a new home with the prestigious Free League Games (Forbidden Lands, Tales from the Loop). Their attention to detail and connections with award winning artists and writers have made a perfect match for Francesco’s desire to serve up the sort Second Edition that The One Ring deserves. Language Is Key Francesco recognizes the unique qualities of the Lord of the Rings as a setting and understands that at the core of Tolkien’s work was a love of language. Which is why he shares us how the mechanics of the game are all informed by the language of the game, from the names of skills and stats, to the three core pillars of the game (Journeys, Councils, and Combat). And even if certain other world famous tabletop RPGs also use three pillars to describe their gameplay and dice mechanics that seem suspiciously similar, Francesco will kindly point out that they had it printed in the One Ring before they did. Après une phase de présentation et une phase de jeu, il est temps de débriefer et de régler les comptes ! La Traque de L'anneau Par Gabriele Mari, Francesco Nepitello, Marco Maggi Illustré par Francesco Mattioli, John Howe Édité par Nuts Publishing De 2 à 5 joueurs Pour 13 ans et + Pour environ 1 à 2h puis 2 à 3h Description : La Traque de l’Anneau se joue en deux actes en utilisant le plateau double-face et avec beaucoup de matériel et des règles différentes. Pendant l’Acte 1, les Hobbits préparent leur voyage et se dirigent vers Bree, au-delà de la frontière la plus orientale de la Comté. Le joueur Porteur de l’Anneau enregistre les mouvements de Frodon secrètement, alors que les Spectres de l’Anneau essaient de le trouver en devinant quel chemin il aura choisi. Pendant l’Acte 2, Frodon quitte Bree et se dirige vers Fondcombe, mené par Grands-Pas. Cette fois, le chemin de Frodon est généré automatiquement et le joueur Porteur de l’Anneau contrôle Gandalf le Gris, qui essaiera de protéger l’Anneau et de mettre les Nazgûl en déroute. Le joueur Porteur de l’Anneau gagne si Frodon apporte l’Anneau Unique à Fondcombe avant qu’il soit corrompu par l’Ombre. La Traque de L'anneau Par Gabriele Mari, Francesco Nepitello, Marco Maggi Illustré par Francesco Mattioli, John Howe Édité par Nuts Publishing De 2 à 5 joueuses Pour 13 ans et + Pour environ 1 à 2h puis 2 à 3h Description : La Traque de l'Anneau se joue en deux actes en utilisant le plateau double-face et avec beaucoup de matériel et des règles différentes. Pendant l'Acte 1, les Hobbits préparent leur voyage et se dirigent vers Bree, au-delà de la frontière la plus orientale de la Comté. Le joueur Porteur de l'Anneau enregistre les mouvements de Frodon secrètement, alors que les Spectres de l'Anneau essaient de le trouver en devinant quel chemin il aura choisi. Pendant l'Acte 2, Frodon quitte Bree et se dirige vers Fondcombe, mené par Grands-Pas. Cette fois, le chemin de Frodon est généré automatiquement et le joueur Porteur de l'Anneau contrôle Gandalf le Gris, qui essaiera de protéger l'Anneau et de mettre les Nazgûl en déroute. Le joueur Porteur de l'Anneau gagne si Frodon apporte l'Anneau Unique à Fondcombe avant qu'il soit corrompu par l'Ombre. Sempre és curiós veure com els altres parlen de la teva ciutat, com la valoren, en què s'hi fixen més i menys i, el més important, com la reprodueixen. En els jocs també tenim aproximacions com la que van fer els venecians Marco Maggi i Francesco Nepitello amb Barcelona: La Rosa de Foc l'any 2016. Inevitablement els autors també es fixen en les icones barcelonines i, de les més importants que tenim, trobem la Sagrada Família. Dos autors de jocs canadencs, l'Adrian Adamescu i el Daryl Andrews, han posat el focus en les rosasses de la Sagrada Família. Per recrear i simular la seva creació ens proposen un joc de draft (o tria) de daus de colors i construcció de patrons. Sagrada ha cridat l'atenció de molta gent, l'art de la portada no et deixa indiferent (jo sóc dels que pensa que amb Altiplano són dues de les portades que poden envellir pitjor en els pròxims anys), i ha tingut nominacions a diferents premis interessants. És un bon joc, i hi ha dos elements que fan molt factible que Devir el pugui publicar al nostre territori: el tema i que per clàusules i drets de tanteig entre empreses l'editorial catalana no ha pogut treure finalment l'edició en castellà d'Azul (jocs en principi un xic diferents, però que juguen en la mateixa lliga de jocs per a tots els públics).

En breu començo a compartir les mini-entrevistes fetes al cinquè Festival Dau Barcelona, però d'abans tinc l'àudio de la presentació en societat del joc Barcelona La Rosa de Fuego, un acte realitzat durant el matí a la mateixa fàbrica de Moritz on per la tarda es va desenvolupar la típica Devir Fest de cada any (podeu escoltar aquí l'entrevista que li vaig fer durant la trobada a Xavi Garriga, director editorial de l'empresa, com a corresponsal del podcast espanyol Vis Ludica). A la presentació van participar, a més del Joaquim Dorca (soci-director de Devir), l'historiador Francesc Xavier Hernández Cardona i els autors del joc Marco Maggi i Francesco Nepitello. Cap al final de l'àudio, el Joaquim diu que els agradaria publicar un joc d'una editorial nord-americana sempre que els deixessin canviar l'aspecte gràfic actual d'aquest joc (que no pot dir en públic)... la portada del Barcelona La Rosa de Fuego que acompanya aquestes línies conté alguna pista sobre el títol d'aquest misteriós joc futurible de Devir per aquells qui sàpiguen mirar i investigar una mica. Abans que arribi l'estiu, volem saldar el nostre compromís amb el Club Amatent. Perquè si diem que som patrocinadors del 3r CorreJocs de Sant Vicenç dels Horts, no ens val amb passejar-nos i saludar... anem a pencar i generar continguts, que és el que més o menys sabem fer i el que l'audiència espera de nosaltres. Hem tornat molt aviat perquè tenim material per fer un altre episodi llarg. La fira JUGAR X JUGAR de Granollers ens ha deixat alguns àudios (tot s'ha de dir... gràcies a l'amic Gurney del podcast Días de Juego), alguns contactes interessants (com la gent de Juganet de Santa Coloma de Farners) i moltes frases per pensar-hi. Entre les frases volem destacar dues, i totes dues es van pronunciar durant el lliurament dels premis de creació de jocs Ciutat de Granollers. La que dóna títol a aquest episodi la va emetre l'alcalde granollerí Josep Mayoral i l'altra (Tutte le cose incrociate sono più belle) el gran Francesco Nepitello. Les podeu sentir i seguir el lliurament dels premis durant la primera part d'aquest episodi. Seguirem amb una entrevista feta via Skype al Toni Viader de Juganet. Parlem de qui són, què fan, on estan i també de la curiosa embranzida que l'estan donant al Carrom (un joc de flicking provinent de l'Índia). Atenció, els podreu veure en acció i conèixer en properes activitats a la província de Girona i més enllà: Festa de la Sega de Santa Coloma de Franers, Correjocs de Sant Vicenç dels Horts, Ludivers... Torna l'Edgard Massot amb la seva secció i ens fa la seva particular crònica de JUGAR X JUGAR 2014. Explica a què va jugar i amb qui es va relacionar. També respon a la pregunta que vam proposar a l'episodi anterior de quins són els seus jocs més "tauleros" i quins els més "prestatgeros". Si us pensàveu que ja s'havia dit tot de VICTUS, us equivoqueu! A JUGAR X JUGAR 2014 també es va fer una presentació oficial del projecte dels dos jocs... moltes coses us sonaran, però encara ens sorprenen els autors i l'editor amb alguns relats que no van sortir ni a la passada DevirFest ni als estudis de Ràdio Sant Andreu. Si ho escolteu us puc assegurar que ja haureu fet un màster sobre la gestació dels jocs de VICTUS... i ara només us quedarà comprar-los i jugar-los molt. Finalment ens acomiadem amb un cover que hem relacionat amb la frase de Mayoral. I si el món ja és una gran taula i només depèn dels comportaments de les persones que volen decidir lliurement com juguen?
