This episode is dedicated to all of you who have ever felt like you had to follow a particular path that wasn't fully aligned to who you were but for several reasons including social pressure, culture, political reasons etc. you lived a life that only felt partially right for YOU, as an individual.I remember growing up and religion being a huge part of my identity. This came mainly from my family who were and mostly still are , Jehovah's Witnesses. I remember the obligatory bible studies and Sunday service attendance being as normal as brushing my teeth. I remember that I started to question religion in general when I was maybe 15/16. I had asked questions that nobody could give me an answer to which made me wonder even MORE. I remember finally deciding at 18 that I was going to connect with the Divine in my own way and that hopefully me being a good person would be good enough. I then came to discover yoga, meditation, chakras etc and the rest is history! As much as I respect all religions, being religious didn't fill me up as much as spirituality did and still does today. Many people today are starting think in a similar way - either incorporating spirituality into their religion or choosing spirituality entirely. My next guest today is no stranger to this. We have with us Dr. Gillian Davis, also known as “Dr. G”,  is a Board-Certified Massage Therapist and Educator.  She also holds credentials in various modes of natural healing, to include Aromatherapy, Herbology, Alkaline Nutrition and Reiki.  And She is currently training in Ayurvedic Medicine. She is a Relationship Guide and “PRANA Coach”.  She is originally from Guyana, and migrated to The United States in 1997. Welcome to our first #AskGillian episode where OverTime's founder and author of 'First Time Leader' (Wiley 2014) Gillian Davis answers some great leadership questions from our listeners. Have a question, send your question alongside #AskGillian via our twitter (https://twitter.com/OverTimeLeader)or email (gillian@overtimeleader.com) In this episode we cover: Q1: I've got an employee who just doesn't seem to care about deadlines. We've spoken about it time and time again. They are quite 'work young'. And honestly I'm just at a loss on what to do as they have been with us for 5 months? Q2: The place I’m working is let’s say, developing their feedback culture. Basically, people don’t feel comfortable doing it and don’t know how to do it in a useful way. They tend to talk about people to their manager instead of the person in question. In the short term I have someone in my team who I’ve had numerous comments + complaints about. However he’s never received that specific feedback to his face, and also feels like he’s doing a better job at things (the comments are all related to his manner and temper (!)) he’s also, always sweet as pie when I talk to him…..so my question is - what would you do as a manager in that instance. I need to make sure his end of year review is based on things that I can validate and I hate 2nd hand feedback, but also don’t want to miss out this bad behaviour if indeed it is still happening Q3: Hey Gillian. I've been asked to run a session for all the line managers at my company on making the most out of the one-to-ones with direct reports. Wondered if you had any material on Overtime leader or could suggest any good material elsewhere that maybe you've used before? Thanks!
