Enjoy An Album with Liam Withnail & Christopher Macarthur-Boyd
After parting ways with their rambunctious older drummer Gary Young, slacker-gods Pavement followed a promising run of EP's and a killer debut album (heavily indebted to English post-punk bands like The Fall and Swell Maps) with Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain - a wry sunstroken take on 70's classic rock through the lens of the American independent underground. Featuring their biggest hits Cut Your Hair and Gold Soundz, Stephen Malkmus and his crew cemented themselves on this record as the zeitgeist-riding stars of the ironic indie age. Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain is also #424 on the Greatest Albums of All Time list by Rolling Stone, which means Liam Withnail and Christopher Macarthur-Boyd have listened to it, and now they're going to talk about it. Featuring digressions on Fopp, Purple Rain, Metallica, Modest Mouse, Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, and the beef between Stormzy and Wiley from a few years ago. Featuring Secret Posho, Tattoo Woohoo/Tattoo Boohoo and YouTube Comment of the Week, this is Enjoy An Album. Enjoy!
*NOT A METAL SHOW* A little bonus show for anyone who cares. Coleman and his daughters do some fill-in programming for the 2022 Fundrive and get verrrrry loose with the playlist. It's rough and all-over-the-place, but a lot of fun, much like the station we love. Hope ya'll dig
It's the return of the world's only podcast after a short winter break and Paul, Mark and Chris are ready to start taking this whole conundrum seriously. Mark is feline good after some happy pet news, Paul wants you to get real, but also not worry about Gold Soundz and these pretzels are making Chris thirsty. In addition, the trio have drafted in friend of the podcast and all-round good egg Craig Angus of the excellent band Savage Mansion to assist with the first episode of the second round. Elsewhere, the team discusses Wordle, the long-forgotten WCW wrestler Buzzy Fuzz, the undisputed ranking of R.E.M. albums and honestly, don't worry about Gold Soundz. * ¿’Cut Your Hair’ se cepilla a cualquier otro hit Indie ever? * Stone Temple Pilots, are they foxy to you?
What's the best run of three movies or albums released in an artist's career? This question guides today's episode of "Reel to Reel." Inevitably, Will and Nina wind up discussing some of the bigger names in music and film, from a young Martin Scorsese to the "new" Kanye. Clips used: - "Gold Soundz" by Pavement - "Dark Fantasy" by Kanye West - "Bound 2" by Kanye West
Gold Soundz is back and talking about comebacks! Gareth and James discuss two important bands in their life -Weezer and Blur - that have staged returns. But were these returns welcome? And is ours for that matter?
Remember James' flippant comment from last episode about whether or not we'd still be listening to those albums in 10 years? No? Well we based this whole episode on it anyway! Joined as always by Gareth, the duo head back in time to relive their early 20's and the music that soundtracked that wonderful time. Turns out there is a lot of music from that time that is ripe for rediscovery. So jump aboard the Gold Soundz time machine and relive the days of indie rock and incessant hype.
