Watch on Philo! - Philo.tv/DTHJacob is telling Elliot, Nick, and Alice about when teenage Colton shows up one day. They spend the day together and Colton tells him exactly what to harvest for the next couple years. We see Del who is contemplating why Colton kept this from her. Back in the 1800's, Kat and Thomas are talking and kissing some more. She's like what am I even doing here? Am I just trying to get back at Elliot? Thomas is like i dunno man. She is like I just gotta have some time. When she gets back to the present, she walks by Elliots how and she locks eyes with him...he knows she time traveled. Alice and Kat are talking and Alice talks about how she believes that Casey is her kid and it's messing with her. She walks outside as Noah is walking up and she breaks up with him. Kat is looking through the archives that Casey worked on and she notices that they signed their name as the letter K.C. Alice travels back and time to talk to Colton and he sings her a song that sounds a lot like a song about diving into the pond and time traveling.Del is grappling with the fact that Colton knew about the pond and just watched her mourn the loss her child. Kat tells Elliot about the kiss and then promptly goes back the 1800's to kiss Thomas some more. He tells her that Susanna is in trouble because people are real mad at Cyrus right now. So she goes to rescue him. Alice is back in the 70s and she records a track with Colton. He then plays the song that he wrote for Del but didn't get to play for her and it makes Alice cry. Back in the 1800's, Kat catches up with with Susanna but then they're captured and brought to Cyrus. Cyrus found the painting and knows that Susanna has been protecting Kat in 1814. He's mad and he's going to take the angry mob to the Landry farm to burn it down. Alice gets back to the pond and finds Evelyn face first in the pond. Alice freaks out on her and tells her her poems womp. Back in the 1800's, Susanna and Kat try to warn them to leave but they won't. The house catches on fire and Jacob is stuck. Someone drags him out. Who is it? It's Colton! He runs away. He jumps in the pond and comes back and is very upset for some reason. He sees Alice and he asks if everything is okay in the farm.
The Way Home continues with episode eight of season three with no rest for our time travelers. Hear the complete duet with Colton and Alice of the beautiful original song, "Breath" and hear our latest theories of who's who in the past and present. We're serving up an extra helping of potatoes and rye on this edition of The Hallmark Cafe!
The U.S. government, military, and industry once saw ocean incineration as the safest and most efficient way to dispose of hazardous chemical waste. Beginning in the late 1960s, toxic chemicals such as PCBs and other harmful industrial byproducts were taken out to sea to be destroyed in specially designed ships equipped with high-temperature combustion chambers and smokestacks. But public outcry arose after the environmental and health risks of ocean incineration were exposed, and the practice was banned in the early 1990s. Smoke on the Water: Incineration at Sea and the Birth of a Transatlantic Environmental Movement (Columbia UP, 2023) traces the rise and fall of ocean incineration, showing how a transnational environmental movement tested the limits of U.S. political and economic power. Dario Fazzi examines the anti-ocean-incineration movement that emerged on both sides of the Atlantic, arguing that it succeeded by merging local advocacy with international mobilization. He emphasizes the role played at the grassroots level by women, migrant workers, and other underrepresented groups who were at greatest risk. Environmental groups, for their part, gathered and shared evidence about the harms of at-sea incineration, building scientific consensus and influencing international debates. Smoke on the Water tells the compelling story of a campaign against environmental degradation in which people from marginalized communities took on the might of the U.S. military-industrial complex. It offers new insights into the transnational dimensions of environmental regulation, the significance of nonstate actors in international history, and the making of environmental justice movements. Revelation - Part Twenty Seven: Smoke on the Water. Today, Mike and Tim discuss the concept of the lake of fire and its symbolism in the book of Revelation. Merry Christmas!!! What are the origins of this imagery in the Old Testament, particularly in the stories of Sodom and Gomorrah? Does the lake of fire represent destruction rather than eternal conscious torment? What is Hell??? Does the text really advocate for an eternity of torment and separation for "unbelievers?" - The lake of fire in Revelation represents destruction rather than eternal conscious torment. - The imagery of burning sulfur and smoke rising is borrowed from the Old Testament, particularly the stories of Sodom and Gomorrah. - Being left outside the city symbolizes exclusion from the New Jerusalem and the consequences of practicing vices associated with empire. - Understanding the symbolic nature of these images is crucial for interpreting the book of Revelation. Revelation challenges us to ask hard questions and reckon with our complicity with empire. - The book of Revelation is not about predicting the end times, but rather about reflecting on our own actions and the actions of the church. - The themes of injustice, making all things new, and leveling empires are consistent throughout the Bible. - The Bible is intentionally provocative and invites us to question and wrestle with its teachings. - Permission is granted to ask hard questions and wrestle with our faith and beliefs.
