Il ne s'agit pas d'un changement de couleur observable de la Lune, mais d'un phénomène astronomique parfaitement classique, auquel on a donné un nom issu de traditions culturelles.La “Lune rose” correspond en réalité à la pleine Lune qui survient en avril. Comme toutes les pleines lunes, elle se produit lorsque la Terre se situe entre le Soleil et la Lune. Dans cette configuration, la face visible de la Lune est entièrement éclairée par le Soleil. Ce phénomène repose sur une mécanique orbitale précise : la Lune met environ 29,5 jours pour effectuer un cycle complet de phases, ce qu'on appelle une lunaison.Mais pourquoi “rose” ? Ce nom vient des traditions amérindiennes, notamment de certaines tribus d'Amérique du Nord. Elles associaient chaque pleine Lune à un événement saisonnier marquant. Celle d'avril coïncidait avec la floraison d'une plante appelée phlox subulata, ou “phlox mousse”, qui produit des fleurs roses au début du printemps. Le terme “Pink Moon” a ensuite été repris et popularisé dans le monde occidental.D'un point de vue strictement scientifique, la Lune peut parfois sembler légèrement colorée — tirant vers l'orange ou le rouge — mais cela n'a rien à voir avec son nom.
