The LA Galaxy have lost their unbeaten run and are back at ground zero after a disappointing 2-1 loss at home to Orlando City on Saturday, March 29, in a match that they led and then threw away after a series of mistakes. The loss leaves them looking for their first win of the MLS season and has Greg Vanney looking for answers as things aren't breaking LA's way. We'll take a look at the Galaxy's good start, how this match slipped away, and another chapter in the Galaxy's goalkeeping saga. Plus, is the upcoming CCC match against Tigres a must win?

With Christian Ramirez's late goal, the Galaxy kept their momentum from the Herediano match and seemed to solve Portland's game plan in the second half. On today's show, hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter discuss the lineup changes Greg Vanney made and why they came up with what they'll call some "pointed criticism." What will become of John McCarthy and Novak Micovic? What is to be made of Zanka over Emiro Garces? Is Vanney lighting some fires on a team that may need a kick in the pants to refocus on the 2025 season? The Los Angeles Galaxy picked up their first win of the season on Wednesday, March 12 with a dominant 4-1 win over Costa Rican Champion Herediano in the second leg of the Champions Cup at Dignity Health Sports Park to advance from the Round of 16 and earn a date with Tigres in the quarterfinals. The MLS Cup champion finally woke from their slumber with an improved performance led by the players pressed into service due to the injuries LA has sustained. And they took their opportunities with both hands, as they were the catalyst for a complete performance that Greg Vanney will be hoping is the turn-around moment in the season. With a motivating win under their belt, important players ready to come back from injury and contribute the squad, and the heaviest part of March's congested fixture period mostly over, will the LA Galaxy be able to turn around their season from a less-than-ideal start when they visit the road against Portland over the weekend?
With the spring (and, very soon, summer) of soccer on the horizon, Donnovan brings on two guests who know the beautiful game better than most: Toronto FC Head Coach Robin Fraser (2:19) and Olympic medallist Diana Matheson (28:42). First, Robin discusses TFC's start to the season, how he operates as a head coach both on a personnel level and a tactical one, his relationships with Greg Vanney and Jesse Marsch, and what success would look like in his first year. Afterwards, Diana discusses the rapidly approaching debut for the Northern Super League, including what she's learned during the creation of a new domestic Canadian league, any surprises she's encountered along the way, and what's still left to get done in the last 30 days before the first kickoff in NSL history. Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. Disappointing/frustrating draw for Atlanta United against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night at the Benz. The visitors did not test Brad Guzan at all in the match, but Atlanta was unable to take advantage of 5 big chances in the first half and some very strong play. Miami comes to town next weekend, they managed to beat Charlotte while playing with 10 for the majority of the match yesterday. Lionel Messi was an unused substitute yesterday, mainly due to the way the game played out with the first half red card to the goalkeeper Oscar Ustari followed by getting the lead and then defending deeper. Charlotte did not manage a shot on goal in the match. Philadelphia and Vancouver remain perfect with three wins in three tries this season. Ryan Gauld left the match for the Whitecaps in the first half with a non-contact knee injury though, which is a massive concern for them. Seattle throttled LAFC 5-2, Jordan Morris became the club's all-time leading scorer, Paul Rothrock starred in the win, but Pedro de la Vega left with an injury in the first half. The Sounder next go to Mexico, where they haven't won in their last 7 tries, to face Cruz Azul in the second leg of their Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 matchup after a scoreless draw in the first leg. Kansas City has lost 10 straight in all competitions (plus 6 preseason losses) after a loss in DC on Saturday night. They lost 10 straight during the 2024 season as well, and lost 10 straight to open the 2023 season, and had a 7-game losing streak in 2022. When will things improve for SKC? When will they improve for Portland as well? James Pantemis made two penalty saves in the first 20 minutes but the Timbers still lost 2-0 in Nashville. The LA Galaxy lost their 4th straight to open 2025, 2-0 at home to St. Louis. Marco Reus has not been the Riqui Puig replacement Greg Vanney hoped for, and they're missing Dejan Jovelic as well, and now they have to get a win against Herediano to advance in Concacaf Champions Cup. The Premier League Summer Series is coming back to Atlanta on August 3rd. Another huge crowd is expected at Mercedes-Benz Stadium for Bournemouth vs West Ham followed by Everton vs Manchester United. More than 20 soccer games at the Benz this season are on the books and crowds will exceed one million for the year by a pretty wide margin. Real Madrid pulls even with Barcelona at the top of La Liga. The Blaugrana did not play over the weekend, as their match was postponed followed the unexpected death of a team doctor. Milan rumors heating up the tabloids in Italy with meetings to hire a new sporting director expected shortly and that could lead to a new manager hire in the summer. Greg Vanney coach de l'année en MLS avec LA Galaxy. C'est mon point de vue, il aurait du moins mériter d'être candidat avec Nancy, Martino, Armas.
This time last year, the Galaxy were watching the playoffs from the sidelines. For the third time in four years, the most decorated team in MLS history hadn't qualified. But head coach Greg Vanney vowed that this season would be different—and he was right. LA have been around the top of the standings all year, and they stormed into the playoffs with a 5-0 win over the Colorado Rapids. On today's episode, Taylor sits down with Greg, a former Galaxy player who coached Toronto FC to MLS Cup glory in 2017, to talk about how he shifted the mindset of the team this season, how he built a successful roster, and the similarities between this Galaxy team and 2017's Toronto side. Is LA primed to visit RSL for a shot at first place and their first three-game win streak under Greg Vanney?

And this one could have more significant repercussions. Is Billy Sharp right to criticize the Galaxy and Greg Vanney for not treating him right upon his exit? And do you trust what Sharp has to say on the subject? Plus, the guys will look at why a 4th DP isn't likely to sway the results of the 2024 race. Why does MLS need a thicker middle? And writing that has been, at the very least, on most Galaxy fans' minds is now firmly on the wall. On today's show, hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter discuss the Galaxy's failure to make the playoffs and the many complex questions the Galaxy front office must now make. But surprisingly, the Galaxy's season isn't over yet. But it could be over on Saturday night when they face Minnesota United. And even if they win, the season has fully turned against LA. Hosts Josh Guesman and Eric Vieira discuss the Galaxy's last-second last to Seattle and will break down all the scenarios, give you all the injury updates, and get you ready for the game against Minnesota. Douglas Costa has been great, but is coming back on TAM? And why is Greg Vanney's Hot Seat just lukewarm right now? The guys will give you their take on Saturday's must-win game and why, even with the win, the Galaxy might be dead in the water. Thanks for joining us. We're glad you stuck around with us!

In fact, just five points from a playoff spot with some games in hand. So what did we learn about a team that saw their remaining DP's both leave the win over San Jose with injuries? Hosts Josh Guesman and Eric Vieira discuss the Galaxy's Bay Area victory and why it's a different topic when talking about the Houston Dynamo coming to Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday night. The Galaxy still haven't won three games in a row with Greg Vanney as the manager. And we're confident he'd like to get that monkey off his back. What stood out in the win over San Jose, and why does this seem like a different season and team? What do the stats say about the Galaxy? Are they a good team trapped at the bottom of the conference? Can depth keep the Galaxy afloat while they struggle with their recent injury news? And how serious are the injuries for Riqui Puig and Douglas "Doug" Costa? And we'll ask big questions like "Are Halal Guys and Del Taco the same Restaurant?" Thanks for joining us!
