This week started with content batching. Batching is an optimizer's tool for ultra productivity. Every month, I create blogs, podcasts, and videos for Carfagno Cleaning and Solo Cleaning School. It takes a ton of time to do each week. I used batching in my cleaning business and in other areas of business over the years. When Teresa's mom was available to watch the kids overnight, we jumped on the opportunity and grabbed a hotel for the night. I got so much done as I batched blog after blog after blog. We also enjoyed time together, so it was a win-win. The following day, I rented an office from my MCBA friend Vernessa Hopkins. Vernessa owns H3 Business Services in Harleysville, PA. The office was perfect and I was able to record all of my podcasts for the upcoming month. My batching goal was to invest a few days and dollars to complete all of my content for a month. I accomplished that! Please keep this in mind. The portion of my batching that related to my solo cleaning business was a small part, so it may not be necessary for you to batch your content. However, you may start sending out newsletters a few times per month, maintain your website, and repurpose content to Facebook and Google My Business. Batching would be a great idea for you at that point.I've been tracking each of my offices from Saturday to Saturday, so I know how long they are taking. Plus, I've made changes to get faster. Over the weekend, I had a difficult email to send. One of these office cleaning clients took me longer because of paint speckles and glitter on the floor as well as increased kitchen areas. I knew I'd have to say something or scope creep would get me! [Before continuing, check out the bonus video, "How do I Deal with Scope Creep" on the Solo Cleaning School YouTube Channel. You'll learn how easy it is for your clients to unintentionally take advantage of you.]When the scope of work increases over time, it causes our cleaning times to increase. The great majority of cleaning companies will NOT raise the price as the scope changes so slowly they don't notice it. Not me! I recognized the potential Scope Creep setting in and knew I would have to send a difficult email. I used the sandwich technique with praise and gratitude in the open and close of the email. In the center, I laid out the areas where the scope has increased. Then I shared how this affects my company. "I clean five offices every Saturday right now. I'm in the process of adding more as well. So when one office starts taking me longer, it ends up costing me money. I'm sure you understand!" Then, I offered possible solutions which either forced them to take ownership and have the staff do more end-of-day cleaning or I would submit a new proposal with higher prices for the increased scope. I was nervous about the outcome as it was surely possible to lose the client, but I had to do this. It's my business and I must run it like one! Fortunately, they responded with consideration and we worked through the solutions together. Ultimately, they decided to take ownership for one portion. The other part, where they've added more kitchen appliances, we decided to alternate half-and-half each week. They gave a little and I didn't raise my prices. It also raised my image of trust and professionalism.Read the rest of this article at the Smart Cleaning School website

Josh grew up in Chester, Virginia, about 20 minutes south of Richmond off I-95. Sports and competition made a big impact in his early years. After being All-State in two sports, he accepted a football scholarship to play Linebacker at Shippensburg University. He still holds the career solo tackles record from starting all 4 years. Josh's first job in hospitality was as a server and barback at Bottoms Up Pizza in Richmond, Va. Prior to PourMyBeer, he worked in Business Development with Modis, a publically traded IT Staffing Firm. He was hired to develop the Baltimore Metro market for the company. Landing several blue-chip accounts took that market from non-existent to a top producer in a matter of 24 months. One day in 2009, he decided he wanted to take a 95% pay cut, quit his job where he played golf 3 days a week, and invest his entire life savings in building a self-pour company. Yadda, yadda, yadda, here we are today after 3 significant chapters in business and life. To get the full story go to TapTheBigIdea.com His wife, Janette (Pieczynski) Goodman, is in the Shippensburg University Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, holds the school record for career steals (not including Josh's heart), and is a Marketing Director for Astellas Pharmaceuticals. They have 2 children, Tyler and Brianna, and live in Harleysville, Pa (30 minutes north of Philadelphia) with their Goldendoodle, Belle, and their bearded dragon Coco. Outside of PourMyBeer, Josh enjoys biking, snowboarding, basketball, pickleball, cornhole, grilling, hazy IPAs, and singing 90's hip hop in his car by himself. Follow Travis on:– IG
Full Hour | In today's second hour, Dom welcomes Bruce LeVell, Director for National Diversity Coalition for the Trump 2024 campaign, onto the Dom Giordano Program for a conversation of how race is being used strategically by Democrats to vilify Trump. LeVell first introduces himself to the audience, telling how he's gone from Jewelry Store owner to Trump surrogate, explaining why he finds Trump's message so appealing. Then, Dom and LeVell delve into the issue of race, with LeVell providing multiple examples of how the image of Trump painted by mainstream media doesn't align with his reputation in minority communities. Also, LeVell offers an inside look at how Trump plans to welcome more minority voters to the party, and tells why he's the best bet for voters. Then, Dom moves over to a discussion about the economy, telling of a big online push back on Five Guys after social media users posted exorbitant prices for their menu items. Dom uses this as an opportunity to talk about ‘shrinkflation,' the fake term created by the Biden administration to excuse their role in inflation. Dom takes a call from Bill in Harleysville, a business owner who had to close due to the rampant inflation, taking listeners inside how supply chain issues prompted by the Biden administration led to his closing. This is the last business update on my new solo cleaning business for 2019. What a way to go out! Andrea Szlavik of A2Z Realtor Pa assures Ken that he is not a cleaner who happens to do business. He is a business person that happens to clean. This is a big difference. Let's dive into this week in my business! We had a business showcase presentation from Laney Landis this week at MCBA. She is the 5th generation owner (over 200 years in the family) of Old Village Paint. I was mesmerized at the history of this American Pre-Civil War paint company. I happened to record this meeting as I wanted to learn each member's business better. This was very fortuitous as Laney was sad she didn't have a recording of her showcase on her family company. Afterward, I told her of my bootleg recording and sold it on the black market for a can of paint. Just kidding. I sent it to her after the meeting and she was so pleased and thankful. As I've shared many times, always look to sow good seeds.I also connected with a few other members after this meeting. James wanted to set up a 1-to-1 breakfast meeting to get to know each other's stories better. Charley wanted me to start sending me cleaning referrals. Paul wanted to connect. I am becoming a trusted face & member and others recognize that and want to get to know me better to refer me. I met Andrea Szlavic on NextDoor last week and she added me to her realtor preferred vendor list. I was very thankful and asked if she would like to grab a coffee and connect. She opted for breakfast at a brand new local spot called Sammy's Bullfrog Cafe in Harleysville, It was a productive meeting where we shared our business stories with each other while enjoying the new flavor in town. We discovered a common connection as well. I had attended the Growth Now Movement LIVE! Conference in Reading, PA with Justin Schenck. While at this conference, I met another Keller Williams realtor at the same office as Andrea. It's a small world, after all. At the end of the meeting, I asked her this question. "Why did you add me to your preferred vendor list without meeting me or seeing my work quality first?" Her answer floored me and became the title to this episode. "Because you set yourself apart by reaching out to me first on NextDoor. That told me that you were a business person that did cleaning verses a cleaning person that tried to do business. Most cleaners don't take that initiative."As we parted, she assured me that she would get me out to her team's office in the spring for a real estate cleaning presentation. Then instead of getting in my car, I went back into the cafe and asked to speak to the owner. They were hesitant as they assumed I wanted to complain. Then I told them that I enjoyed the experience and would like to leave the cafe a 5-star review on Google. The hostess introduced me to my breakfast waitress, who was also part owner in the brand new cafe! She was very grateful and told me where to leave these reviews and asked for my cleaning business card. I left one on the cafe's bulletin board and went home. Once I got home, I followed up by giving 5-star reviews on Google, NextDoor, and Facebook for Andrea and the Bullfrog Cafe. Andrea and Kayla (my breakfast waitress) were so thankful. Again, these are good seeds! Read the rest of this episode at the Smart Cleaning School website

I teased this episode in the previous one, so here it is! Did you know that your good name can be good marketing? I want you to think about this. How many companies do you buy from on the name alone? Have you ever hired a babysitter or other service provider in your home because they come from a good family name? How many times have you done the opposite when the company or person in question has a poor name and reputation? I work very hard to add value everyday to our good name. The Carfagno name means something to me. We are disciples of Jesus. We are hard workers. We are honest. I could go on and on. What are the values you add to your good name? I encourage you to develop these in your home and with your family. Transfer these values to your kids. I get inbound leads through my website and Google every month. This is so cool to me. We've followed Jesus. We've worked hard. We've been honest. This has earned my name and our company a great local reputation. Our Google profile has 34 5-Star reviews, an article showing us winning the Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year for 2022, and many other helpful insights for prospects to learn about us. When I receive an inbound lead, my policy is to call within 1 business day. It's a boundary. I chit-chat and learn about the job. I always ask how they find me. Usually, I hear. "I searched online and found you highly rated in the area." That means so much to me. I desire a good name and this is showing it. The Carfagno Name in my area is respected and I'm so thankful for that.A lead came in recently that seemed like any other. I returned the message within 1 business day. It was a local accounting firm. The office manager and I chit-chatted about the job and then I asked the question. "So, how did you find me?" I expected the same thing. She said. "I searched online and saw the name Carfagno. I'm a Carfagno on my mother's side. I wondered if we were related. I just went to our Carfagno Family Reunion. Maybe you were there? Your name got me to click on the Google profile and I saw the big award you won and your reviews. It felt right." We spent 5 minutes on geneology trying to find out if we were related. This is a side note. I live in Harleysville, PA but grew up in Norristown, PA. When I was a kid, I used to joke that although our name was obscure and uncommon, there's a half page of Carfagnos in the Norristown phone book. After college, we moved to Greenville, SC. There wasn't a single southerner that could pronounce my last name. I was the only Carfagno down there. We moved to Upstate New York for 16 years where plenty of Italians lived. More could pronounce our name, but I still phonetically spelled C, A, R as in Ralph, F as in Frank, A-G as in Gary, N as in Nancy, O to just about everyone. There were no Carfagnos in the New York phone book. We moved back to Montgomery County, PA in 2018 and I felt like I was in Cheers. Everybody knew my name. They could say Carfagno. They could spell Carfagno. Heck, many of them knew a Carfagno. Here's a funny one. My uncle Bob Carfagno married Patty Carfagno. Her name was actually Carfagno when they met and they weren't related! She married a Carfagno in her first marriage, kept the name, and married Bob! In my area, the name Carfagno is more known. It's a marketing niche of its own. I know this won't apply to all of you or perhaps not many of you at all. But imagine you have a name that is less popular or common. You go out and make a name for yourself and add value to your name. Then when prospects come across your Google profile and see your name, they feel good about hiring you.Read the rest of this article at the Smart Cleaning School website

Eleanor Friedman packed up and headed off to a farm in rural Tuscany. Having recently renounced vegetarianism, she set out to reconcile herself to the reality of meat-eating. She was on this quest to know all of the processes along the food chain—to have some ownership over what she was eating. About Eleanor Friedman & her journey. Eleanor Friedman was apprenticing as a butcher and norcino (salumi producer), and her husband Gian Piero Pepe was running a local restaurant in Italy. Gian Piero and Eleanor moved to New York to be closer to Eleanor's family. Their dream was to open a small salumeria in the Italo-Tuscan style to use the techniques learned in Italy while honouring their home in the Northeast by sourcing local pasture-raised pigs. After an extensive search for the right place for their salumeria, Eleanor and Gian Piero found the perfect location in Harleysville, NY, a hamlet in the Catskills that allows them to be closer to the farmers they work with. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tbcy/support

In "Building My New Cleaning Network I", I shared my marketing strategy from the summer of 2018 after moving back to the Philadelphia Area. I was scrappy and willing to knock on doors to say, "Hi, my name is Ken Carfagno." My friend Kevin Lacombe did the same thing in his new solo cleaning business when I was coaching him in late 2018. I knocked on 13 doors in the same town where my first new office was located. It worked! I had a few interested companies and one hired me! We then moved our family to another part of the suburbs and wanted to attract new clients. I followed the same strategy of knocking on doors, except I added a personalized piece to my information drop-offs and follow up process that I got from my friend Gustavo Fernandez. He showed me a few ways to stand out and I implemented them. In the month of May 2019, I knocked on 25 doors and generated a few interested prospects. Again, one hired me. I would have continued this guerilla marketing approach each month to add one new customer each month. But it didn't sit right with me. I realized that I needed to serve the community and create a name for myself. Thus, I poured into my newest customer and became friends with his family. We started meeting for breakfast to connect, pray, and mastermind together. That's Mr. Dennis Gehman of Gehman Design Remodeling in Harleysville, PA. I've mentioned his name a dozen times on this podcast because he was that much of a help to me! We still meet for breakfast to connect, pray, and mastermind. This process taught me a huge lesson. I wanted to change my approach from cold door-knocking to attracting warm leads. The only way to do that was through service. Read the rest of this article at the Smart Cleaning School website
The Big Game is almost here, so Bo and the producers decided to give a cheer. With talk of snacks and major plays, fun was had in all the best ways. The show kicked off with a two-point conversation with two Associates of the Day: Trevor, a benefits coach from Bentonville, and Annabelle from Store 2236 in Harleysville, Pennsylvania. We had three all-star players to celebrate in Milestone Minute, including Salvador from Store 536 in Abilene, Texas, who hit 35 years; Jo from Store 1502 in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, who reached 30 years; and Bobbie from Store 1200 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, who achieved 25 years. Cue the touchdown dance. Finally, Bo asked this Impossible Question: What do 39% of us believe to be true about ourselves? Slow down and tune in to find out.

Make sure you listen to today's Minute To Win It, you might hear some of the same questions tomorrow!
Kristina Valdez, Executive Director of Along the Way, discussed the non-profit serving single mothers in Bucks and Montgomery counties with after-hours childcare and other services to allow them to work and pursue their education. She described the child-care crisis in the US – child care costs can take up 21% of a two-parent monthly income, for single mothers it's 63%. 41% of children born in PA are born to single mothers, 2 in 3 female headed households are what she described these parents as ALICE - Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. A single mother without child care cannot work, and if she can't work, then she can't get out of poverty. Lack of child care can keep a woman from job choices and education, preventing her from getting ahead, she described their programs – free reliable, trustworthy childcare– over 8,000 hours - from vetted, paid care providers, and career/job counseling. Along the Way is funded through grants and donations, as well as fund-raisers including a Golf Outing Sept 20 in Harleysville at Lederach-top 10 course to play in PA. For information visit alongtheway.org
In this week's episode, April Matt, co-founder and director of the Pennsylvania-based nonprofit Along the Way, reveals the value of asking good questions as you prepare to pursue your dream. And, more importantly, she reminds us to listen to the answers; in doing so you might uncover something you never considered. You'll also hear why your dream is worth pursuing, even when it gets hard, you have bad days or feel like quitting. Finally, April teaches us the importance of knowing your strengths and weaknesses so you can partner with people who have what you lack. And, as you surround yourself with people, they can help you see when you're attempting to do it all on your own strength instead of resting in the Lord and His. April is a wife and mother of one spunky daughter, and she has lived in the Souderton, PA, area for most of her life. She has worked for two non-profits for over 13 years. April was a single mother at one time and is wired with plenty of energy which she uses to engage in acts of mercy and justice in order to make her community a better place for all. You can find April being creative through sewing or graphic arts, surfing the Jersey waves, working out, and being playful and spontaneous daily! Our guest is Robert "Bob" Whalen, President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of HB Global, LLC. HB Global employs approximately 750 people across three divisions of employee-owned mechanical service companies: HB McClure Company, IT Landes Company, and Nash Plumbing and Mechanical, with locations in Harrisburg, York, and Harleysville, Pennsylvania, and Wildwood, Florida. Bob Whalen describes how their ESOP creates both a positive current working environment today and a retirement vehicle for the future. An ESOP won't turn a bad company into a good company -- but an ESOP can make a good company into a *great* company. Focusing on employees first helps HB Global outperform the marketplace.
