--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/madmike3/message

My guest today is an American food critic and voice actor. Born in Chicago in the late seventies, he began performing in public as a young child after he joined the chorus for a production of the opera Carmen, appearing alongside the tenor Plácido Domingo. He began voicing commercials at the age of seven, before moving to California hoping to take on character roles. There he joked with a friend that his ideal role would be to voice the pirate Guybrush Threepwood in the Monkey Island series of video games. Two months later he was cast as the character in The Curse of Monkey Island. He has since reprised the role for each of the Monkey Island sequels, as well as providing cameos in Rare's beloved pirate game, Sea of Thieves, six Star Wars games and two Metal Gear Solids. Alongside this work, my guest has worked as the restaurant critic for the Arizona Republic. Welcome Dominic Armato.

Patent Attorney John Rizvi discusses intellectual property and how the tax code applies to the sale of ideas, plus experienced Construction analyst Shelly Armato discusses the state of construction and the ups and downs of investing in the construction industry. Episode Transcript Intro: Welcome to the Practical Tax podcast, with tax attorney Steve Moskowitz. The Practical Tax podcast is brought to you by Moskowitz, LLP, a tax law firm. Disclaimer: The information contained in this podcast is based upon information available as of date of recording and will not be updated for changes in law regulation. Any information is not to be considered tax advice or legal advice and does not form an attorney/client relationship. Further, this podcast may be construed as attorney advertising. You should see professional consultation for your individual tax and legal situation. Chip Franklin: Hello. Welcome again to another edition of Practical Tax with Tax Attorney, Steve Moskowitz. Steve, when you think about intellectual property ... It's funny. We were talking with an intelligence officer on one of the last shows we did, and I think about when people talk about intellectual property, it is interesting. If you were to purchase something that was intellectual property, if I wanted to purchase a copyright for somebody, does that have all of the same entanglements of a regular sale when it comes to tax and the federal and state governments? Steve Moskowitz: When you talk about tax and you talk about entanglements, the answer is almost always yes. Chip Franklin: Okay, fair enough. We'll dive into that a little bit deeper. Our next guest is known as the Patent Professor. He's an adjunct professor of patent law at Nova Southeastern Law School in Florida. He's written two books on patents and John Rizvi is nice enough to join us here for Practical Tax with Steve Moskowitz. Hello, John. Steve Moskowitz: Hi, John. John Rizvi: Yes, how are you? Pleasure to be here. Chip Franklin: Great! I love that you have the Patent Professor and it has a little R on there on it. I tried to find that on my computer one day. On a Mac, you got to hold six buttons down at the same time. But let me ask you, do you have to ... and I've heard this before with, I don't know, copyrights or trademarks or patents ... but when you get it done, you have to let people know that you have a patent on it, right? Or the rights to it can start to slip away. Is that accurate? John Rizvi: Yeah, so you have to put people on notice. So patents and trademarks are both different. Briefly, a patent protects an idea, like an invention, and trademarks protect brands. Whereas the patents, you would mark the product with US patent number and you'd have a patent number. With trademarks, and I don't know if this is going to show up well on screen, I have a cup of coffee with me- Chip Franklin: Starbucks. We see it. John Rizvi: Yep. Everyone is seeing the R with the circle around it on the logo. And I don't know- Chip Franklin: Gotcha. John Rizvi: [inaudible 00:02:28] knows what I'm talking about. For a trademark, that indicates that it's a registered trademark. Now sometimes, you'll see a TM and a TM is putting people on notice that you're seeking rights to that name, but it's not necessarily been granted yet by the trademark office. It's very important to label and put others on notice. Otherwise ... and there's a lot of advantages ... it eliminates the defense of, "I didn't know that was a trade name." For patent cases, there's a defense of innocent infringement. It doesn't get you off the hook as an infringer, but it at least makes it more difficult for a judge to award punitive damages because it makes it look like it's an accident. But if you have your registered trademark every time you have your brand ... You have it on your sign, your website, your business cards, letterhead ...

Intervista a PINO CASAMASSIMAVent'anni.

This week we feature Leonard Armato, the founder and CEO of Management Plus Enterprises (MPE) who has been a pioneer in converting celebrity to brand with such notable clients as Shaquille O'Neal, Oscar De La Hoya, amongst many others. He was formerly the CMO of Skechers, Founder/CEO of the AVP Pro Beach VB Tour, and Board Member of the Harlem Globetrotters. He is a strategic adviser to high profile CEOs and is a Master at Enabling Greatness. He is considered a visionary leader in the convergence of sports, entertainment, marketing and technology and is now quickly taking these same principles that made him a powerhouse in Web 2.0 to becoming one of the top NFT and Web3 Thought Leaders in the world.
As the founder and CEO of Management Plus Enterprises, Leonard Armato has been a leader in developing, positioning, and building high-growth brands and converging sports, media, marketing, and technology. A master at Enabling Greatness, Leonard transformed celebrity marketing by masterminding the development and launch of Shaquille O'Neal's brand. He developed the Golden Boy brand for Oscar De La Hoya and created the marketing infrastructure for Golden Boy Promotions, which is one of the world's largest boxing promotion companies. Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation: How he landed his first client that launched his career Important things to keep in mind when reinventing yourself Morning routines you can do to enable greatness The power of being able to reconcile strengths and weaknesses The correlation between relationship and longevity The impact of mentorship Episode Highlights: How He Landed His First From being a lawyer, Leonard decided to get into the sports business. To get his first client, he offered to work with him the whole year and offered his first 30 days for free. After 90 days, the client finally signed with him and the rest is history. From there, he won a bunch of Super Bowls. Then Leonard got a bunch of clients and his career started to evolve. When people meet you, there are two things they wonder about: Can they trust you? How good are you as what you say you are? Things to Keep in Mind When Reinventing Yourself 1. Commit yourself to put yourself out there and go for it. Once you make that commitment, there's a lot of power that comes to your advantage you've never anticipated. A lot of people are uncomfortable with that. But if you're going to be an entrepreneur, if you're going to reinvent yourself, you got to do that. 2. Dare to fail. If you don't put yourself out there and dare and make a big try over something audacious, you'll never do anything. Morning Routines You Can Do to Enable Greatness Journaling Meditation Set your intentions for the day. Exercise The Power of Being Able to Reconcile Strengths and Weaknesses You have to be able to make other people's lives better. And sometimes you don't realize the impact until later. Be mindful and make sure that you make every day a masterpiece. Treat people the right way, and try to make everyone's life better you come in contact with. You're sowing the seeds of future greatness in them, then you're also doing things that will come back later to make you feel really proud. Insights into Relationships and Mentorship Relationships are the single most important factor in determining longevity. Meanwhile, a Harvard study shows that the average students did better than the geniuses because of the way they were treated by the professor.
