Kings who connect their dark world to the light of the priestly realm will release fusion power. This was the legend of Asa and Azariah. They were Watchmen each to the other. Doggedly chasing the fulfilment of God's purpose to the people in their stewardship. Who is your purpose partner? Who in your circle would keep you grounded in God's will? All Priests need Kings. The truth is, if we're crushing it at work but not doing the same at home with our spouse/partner, eventually, it'll catch up with you, and everything (and everyone) suffers the consequences. Men have been taught that showing vulnerability in relationships is a sign of weakness. So we build walls to shield ourselves from the hurt and pain that can come with opening up to our partner. And when those walls come crashing down, we're often confused about how to handle the situation. On the flip side, men who acknowledge their vulnerability can foster a deep sense of connection and intimacy with their spouse. That's why I'm pumped to have Bryan Reeves on the show today. Bryan is an author and relationship coach who helps men, women, and couples create thriving lives and intimate relationships. His Men, This Way blog has been read by over 30 million people worldwide, and his work has been featured in The Good Men Project, Buzzfeed, Allure, Medium, Playboy, and others. In this conversation, we dig into Bryan's tools for communicating clearly and with love and respect for your partner and the importance of establishing boundaries as early as possible. Bryan also shares three principles for showing up at your best in your relationship and the transformational power of intentionally choosing your partner every day instead of leaving your relationship on auto-pilot. Bryan Reeves Podcast Highlights You miss countless opportunities for an intimate connection with your partner every day. How people are afraid to set boundaries in their relationship and how to overcome this challenge. How to reconcile the different masculine and feminine core values. Daily connection practices of thriving couples. Ego doesn't belong in a relationship. It's better to be kind than to be right. How to ask what we want without blaming the other person. The difference between being empathetic to her needs and doing what she wants you to do. Learning to speak each other's love languages brings out the best in the relationship. The best relationships aren't born. They're cultivated for years. Get the Full Show Notes Want access to the full show notes, including links to all resources mentioned during today's conversation? Why Young Men Are Crying Out For Advice About Sex with Ben Dunks

The Perception Podcast

In this episode, Caroline is talking to the amazing Ben Dunks, who has written an intimacy guide for young men about sex. Ben explains how his love of dance led to him switching from studying biology and chemistry to becoming a professional dancer, which morphed into a career as an educator and writer.Ben shares what made him realise that young men desperately needed guidance when it came to sex. He explains that they feel unable to talk about sex. Instead, they are using pornography as their guide. Something that is leading to young men and women engaging in sexual practices that they come to realise are actually abusive and very damaging. KEY TAKEAWAYS For many young men and women pornography is their only guide to sex and intimacy. The nature of porn draws you into watching increasingly dark and aggressive material. That impacts the way we think, feel and act in intimate relationships. Young couples are re-enacting what they have seen in porn.  Women are consenting to things that leave them feeling violated because they or their partners have watched it in a porn video or show. Young men are behaving in sexually aggressive ways without necessarily realising they are doing so. Again, because they are re-enacting porn. If you are focusing on your partner's pleasure, you are not going to end up coercing them. You won't assault them. We live in a society where the narrative is that young people are rubbish. It's not true and being spoken about so negatively is incredibly damaging. People are holistic. Our mind, body and spirit are all connected. What we do, say, watch and expose ourselves to ends up contributing to who we are. BEST MOMENTS‘The algorithm of pornography just sends them down, darker, and darker and more violent and more aggressive paths and situations. ´‘The framework of the book is really about focusing on your partner's pleasure. Focusing on your partner in all ways, in terms of your intimate encounters.'‘It's a choice to engage with your partner and it's a choice to explore together and have a really lovely time.' ABOUT THE GUESTBenjamin Dunks studied for a Biology and Chemistry Degree before deciding to train as a professional dancer at the Queensland University of Technology. He went on to dance with the Australian Ballet School and the 4 major contemporary dance companies in Australia and with companies in the UK.When Ben finished performing, he was the Artistic Director of Attik Dance in Plymouth for 7 years. Since 2011 he has taken 70000 participants through his programs. In 2018, he started working on a dance programme, which is currently being used in 2,000 UK schools. Ben is also an author, his book Intimacy: A guide for young men about sex is helping young people who have been exposed to 24hr porn to understand how to connect with their partners and enjoy true intimacy. Saving them from learning the painful way that doing what porn taught them usually leads to violent and assaultive behaviour. His book Men and Menopause has already been released and he has 3 more in the pipeline, a version of Intimacy for Young Women, a book about power and control for 12 to 16 yr. old lads, and a book called 'Dance is as important as Maths', which is about how a creative movement practice is fundamental for our brains as it is for our bodies. His Men's Sports Pants company called We are Tackle is a success. Currently Ben is the social media manager with Synergen Met, an Aussie Cleantech company that is revolutionising making Clean Hydrogen from Methane and destroying PFAS, the forever chemical. Dr. Joe Martin is an award-winning international speaker, author, educator, and certified “man builder." His life's story can be summarized in one simple sentence: “He went from rags to riches to ruined to redemption.” My name is Dr. Joe Martin, and I'm the creator and founder of the multi-media organization called Real Men Connect (501-c3). And I'm passionate about helping Christian men win! The truth is, almost every Christian man wants to be a godly husband, father, and provider for his family. But most men are secretly frustrated or afraid of failing in their role as spiritual leaders. Because deep down inside, most of us don't know how to be godly men, because we didn't have a godly father in the home to teach us. And I was one of those men. As the product of a single, teenage-mother, I survived abject poverty, sexual and physical abuse, abandonment, anger, depression, rejection, and addiction (just to name a few). Now I've dedicated my life to helping men, husbands, and fathers like you write their own comeback story or at least prevent them from having to write one at all. We provide men with a proven 5-step plan that's guaranteed, if you're courageous and committed, to help you win in the areas that matter most to you as a husband, father, and spiritual leader of your home. O.K. so maybe I could have dug even deeper, but hopefully you'll appreciate that with the birth of my twin boys, crate diggin' time is limited, so recourse to few old favourites in this selection. Nevertheless it's not exactly obvious unless you're one of those chin stroking jazz snobs. I'd been wanting to do a kind of "pure" jazz show for a while, the criteria could have been even more stringent, I could have outlawed all electric instruments, but I did want to keep some variety. I can't remember the last time I played something from the Riverside label on the show, so slipping a couple into the first half hour was kind of satisfying, great tunes from Jimmy Heath and Clifford Jordan. Then there's vocals, a scat masterclass from Jon Hendricks, Ann Young tearing up a standard and The Metronomes with silky smooth harmonies. I also decided to do a mini Prestige feature.... what's the difference between Blue Note and Prestige, a day's rehearsal.... yes it is the kind of ugly sister of classic jazz labels, more "blowing dates" less recording sessions. Yet of course there are some awesome titles in the Prestige catalogue, Frank Wess' "Southern Comfort" is certainly one of those, soul-jazz with a Latin twist and really punchy well balanced recording. As always the mellow meltdown in the middle is fun to do, it's what radio's for in my opinion. Listening to Duke Pearson's Sweet Honey Bee album again for the first time in ages, the beauty of "After The Rain" left me quite astounded, Pearson was the quintessential Blue Note artist, he acted as an A&R man for Alfred Lion, and composed the timeless "Cristo Redentor" for which he should be duly honoured as it is one of the most beautiful melodies of all time. "After The Rain" comes close to that peak of sublimity. Continuing the rainy theme the Masabumi Kikuchi composition "Drizzling Rain" from his album with Gil Evans is just as beguiling, with a Japanese lyricism, a kind of Jazz haiku. "En Passant" performed by West Coast stalwarts Shelly Manne ands His Men is an early composition by the great John Williams from U.S. tv series Checkmate, Williams' list of film credits is ridiculous , probably the most successful composer of the twentieth century? All that instrumental grace is followed by a trio of vocal cuts with a morning theme....lushness from Carmen McRae, the brilliant Lorez Alexandria, and Andy Bey ripping some conscious flavour through Gary Bartz NTU Troops leftfoot jazz-funk. Closing the show the last sequence gets lowdown and funky, and a bit abstract! Drums and basslines, a touch of James Brown in Roy Haynes' "Guadalupe", and some electronic undertow in Julian Priester's " Love Love" which I played just a portion of as it covers a whole side. Shame that I only squeezed a the first bit of Monette Sudler's "Brighter Days For You" as it takes me back to my early days of The Cosmic Jam all those years ago.... still love it, and the title says it all. We have come in this PODCAST to a monumentally significant section of Scripture.   And yet ironically one of the most ignored.   As we will learn over the next several weeks, here in Mark 6, and its much more complete parallel passage in Matthew 10, we read of something that was for Jesus enormously emotional, and for us incredibly instructional.   Emotional because of its context (Jesus’ compassion for people will shine ever so brightly against dark backdrop of His own rejection); instructional because of its content (that includes wonderfully practical principles we can readily apply).   There is no way for me to overestimate the value of the insights that we will discover together here as we sort of eavesdrop on Jesus as He prepares His men for ministry.   Just to give you a sneak peak of just some of the things that we will learn together as we dissect and digest this that we could call The Master’s Message to His Men, we will discover:   How Jesus wants His ministers -- both then and now -- to conduct their ministries; How Jesus wants His present pastors to pastor; What the template for any ministry that Jesus develops here in Matthew 10 actually looks like; Where the lines of the ministry blueprint are drawn; Jesus’ purpose statement for all future ministries; Jesus’ own philosophy of ministry, and how it translates into our own ministry contexts today.   You could say that Jesus wrote the ministry manual that He intended each of us who dare to minister in His name to follow, and that Matthew 10 is that manual.   A chapter of epic importance that was completely overlooked, and never-once-considered throughout my four years of Bible college, three years of seminary, and five years completing a doctoral program. #Never.Mentioned.Once.   I cannot help but to wonder how different the church landscape would look today if we actually taught future pastors what Jesus taught His men. Jesus planted here in Matthew 10 the seeds of ministry principles that will come to full bloom in rest of New Testament.   In short, how we view the ministry and discharge our own ministries begins right here.   Please note that depending upon your web browser and connection speed, it might take up to 60 seconds for this podcast to begin to play.    HAPPY LISTENING.
