With over 160 episodes of Star Trek: Voyager, you could be forgiven for thinking a few can go on the ‘meh’ pile. There are also a lot of episodes that rise to the top when it comes to thinking of the best of the best. But it is almost impossible to choose just one episode from each series that is not to be missed. In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Liam Smart and Suzanne Williamson attempt to whittle down each season to just ONE episode that embodies Voyager. Of course they do not agree... One of the many, many (did we say many?) episodes of Star Trek: Voyager to feature the Borg, Season 6’s Survival Instinct focuses on members of Seven of Nine’s Unimatrix that crash landed with her on a random planet a few years prior to the events of the episode. These now ex-Borg are desperate to find a way of delinking themselves from the mini-collective they were forced to form by Seven, and now require Seven to help them undo it. In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Suzanne Williamson and Liam Smart are joined by Christopher D Littlefield for a commentary on Season 6 Episode 2, Survival Instinct. Farewells in Voyager and Farewell to Zachary. Seven of Nine. In Star Trek: Voyager's fourth season, a new character was introduced: Seven of Nine, a former Borg drone liberated from the Collective by Captain Janeway and her crew. Played by Jeri Ryan, the character was an immediate hit, so it only makes sense that the character would eventually be introduced into the Voyager tie-in novels being published at the time. In this episode of Literary Treks, hosts Dan Gunther and Bruce Gibson welcome Suzanne Williamson to the show to discuss the Voyager novel Seven of Nine by Christie Golden. We talk about capitalizing on a new character, Annika Hansen and Seven's memories, the significance of the ravens, the Skedans and their vendetta against Emperor Beytek, ties to the wider lit-verse, and wrap up with our final thoughts and ratings. In the news segment, we discuss the delays in the publication of Trek comics thanks to COVID-19. "The Cloud" Commentary. When Voyager is in serious danger of running out of replicator resources (and Captain Janeway her morning coffee), Voyager changes course toward a resource-rich nebula that turns out to be a vaporous spacefaring life form. Voyager Romance. From the on-screen romance of B'Elanna Torres and Tom Paris to romantic moments between various members of Voyager's senior staff, to various alien romances of the week, Star Trek: Voyager is perhaps the most romantic series in the entire Star Trektelevision franchise. In this special Valentine's Day episode of To The Journey, hosts Suzanne Williamson and Zachary Fruhling explore the many romances, both good and bad, in Star Trek: Voyager. Message in a Bottle. Comedy in Star Trek can be hit or miss. The comedy duo of the Emergency Medical Hologram, Mark I (Robert Picardo) and the Emergency Medical Hologram, Mark II (Andy Dick), however, should go down in history as one of the great comedic duos of all time. In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Zachary Fruhling and Suzanne Williamson discuss the fourth-season Voyager episode "Message in a Bottle," also known as "Frasier and Niles in Space." "Mortal Coil" Commentary. It's Prixmas time once again at Trek.fm! While a (mostly) dead Neelix may not be the most festive of holiday podcast topics, "Mortal Coil" is where we first learn of the Talaxian holiday Prixin. In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Suzanne Williamson and Zachary Fruhling raise their glasses (or can, in the case of Suzanne) for a holiday salutation to ancestors and friends alike with an audio commentary on the fourth-season Voyager episode "Mortal Coil." Tom Paris Mini-Marathon. Of all the characters on Star Trek: Voyager, arguably Tom Paris had the biggest turnaround, from his character's beginning in a Federation penal colony in "Caretaker" to seeing the birth of his daughter in "Endgame." In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Zachary Fruhling and Suzanne Williamson compare their episodes picks for a three-episode Tom Paris mini-marathon. Faces. Like many of us (except for Suzanne!), B'Elanna Torres struggles with an inner dual nature. In B'Elanna's case, the struggle consists of finding the balance between her Klingon side and her human side. When B'Elanna's two halves are split into two distinct people, one fully Klingon and the other fully human, this inner struggle is acted out dramatically on screen between the two B'Elannas. In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Suzanne Williamson and Zachary Fruhling discuss the many faces of "Faces," from B'Elanna's dual nature and Chakotay's inner Vidiian to Sulan's inner Hannibal Lecter. Kes Mini-Marathon. Everyone's favorite Ocampan, Kes, may have been in only three seasons of Star Trek: Voyager, but she left her mark on the Voyager crew and on Voyager fans alike. In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Suzanne Williamson and Zachary Fruhling put together an ultimate Kes mini-marathon. Things We Love and Hate about Neelix. Like many fans of Star Trek: Voyager, we have a love/hate relationship with the character of Neelix. His use as comic relief in the early seasons of Voyager is simultaneously both brilliant and groan-worthy, and it helped to establish the overall tone of Voyager as a fairly lighthearted installment of the overall Star Trek franchise. But while Neelix developed into a character with remarkable depth and subtlety, he is also not without his character flaws and faults. In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Zachary Fruhling and Suzanne Williamson discuss the things they love and hate about the character of Neelix. Chapters Intro (00:00:00) Tubby Toys (00:03:20) Bork, Bork, Bork, All the Time (00:06:46) Making a Medicine Bundle With Chakotay (00:09:54) Two Men and a Wesley (00:17:19) Neelix or Bust! Innocence. Tuvok may be known for his Vulcan stoicism, but his Vulcan parenting skills are second to none. When Tuvok's shuttle crashes on one of the moons of Drayan Two, he's forced to care for three children who, unbeknownst to him, are actually elderly Drayans aging in reverse. In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Suzanne Williamson and Zachary Fruhling discuss the second-season Voyager episode "Innocence," in which we see a kinder, gentler Tuvok keeping the monsters away and singing the children to sleep with a Vulcan lullaby. Suzanne and Zachary also discuss reverse-aging as a metaphor for senility in old age and the fear of death, along with Chakotay's diplomacy learning curve. Characters We Wanted More Of. Star Trek: Voyager had no shortage of one-off characters that made a lasting impression on us, so much so that we wish that they had joined the Voyager crew, or at least that they would have become recurring characters. In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Zachary Fruhling and Suzanne Williamson discuss one-off characters they wanted to see more of on Star Trek: Voyager. Nothing Human. The real Crell Moset may have been a 24th-century Cardassian Dr. Mengele, but his holographic representation was always such a nice guy in the fifth-season Voyagerepisode "Nothing Human." In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Suzanne Williamson and Zachary Fruhling discuss the pros and cons of using Crell Moset's morally questionable medical research, and the possibly tainted medical knowledge it produced, to save the life of B'Elanna Torres against her own wishes. "False Profits" Commentary. Ferengi in the Delta Quadrant? We thought we'd seen the last of the scheming Ferengi pair Arridor and Kol when they were stranded on the other side of the unstable Barzan Wormhole in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Price." Little did we know at the time that we would get a sequel to "The Price" in the form of the third-season Voyagerepisode, "False Profits." Unsurprisingly, with the help of a salvaged replicator, Arridor and Kol have co-opted the local mythology and cornered the market on lobe-shaped costume jewelry on a pre-warp planet in the Delta Quadrant. In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Zachary Fruhling and Suzanne Williamson bend the Prime Directive in an audio commentary on "False Profits."
