This week I'm chatting with Tonya Papanikolov, the founder of Rainbo. Rainbo is a medicinal mushroom based line of supplements and functional foods whose mission is to optimize health and open minds with medicinal mushrooms. They believe that plants, food and fungi are medicine for the body, mind and consciousness. What I appreciate so much about Rainbo is how educating people on the healing power of fungi is so central to their purpose and that is exactly what we do in this episode! In this conversation we discuss: How Tonya's own healing journey turned her attention towards mushrooms, the definition of medicinal mushrooms, how mushrooms heal ecosystems, what mushrooms can teach us about ourselves, Tonya's theory about why they're trending right now and Tonya even briefly goes over the different tinctures Rainbo offers and their benefits. The world of fungi is so vast and complex that there's no way we could cover everything in this episode, but if you're new to the medicinal mushroom world like I was, I encourage you to check out Rainbo's website, where you'll find so many helpful resources about this magical, mysterious mushroom world.RESOURCES:EP 19: (Season 1 Finale!) There’s really no way to know how you’ll be as a parent until you become one. For me, I imagined strapping on my baby and continuing life exactly as I knew it before. Every mother I know is rolling their eyes right now. Honestly, holding onto this idea—of things continuing as normal—is one of the many reasons I had such an awful experience as a new mom. Before baby, I could do it all. I had endless energy to travel, to say yes to every opportunity, to show up for everyone who needed me. I was always putting myself last. But after the baby? I had no choice. My brain and body were shutting down. I had to change for the better. Now, today’s guest, Tonya Rapley, didn’t struggle like I did when she had a baby. In fact, once her baby was born, she hit the brakes. She said, nope: now everything is going to be different. Tonya went forth and made changes to her business, My Fab Finance, to create a life that supports her and how she wants to be as a mother and a business owner. In 2019, Tonya purchased Club Loofah, her e-commerce business, and continues to run both of her businesses her way—and she’s absolutely thriving because of it and living on her own terms. From the outside — and to herself — Tonya looked like she had it all together...until one day, all the “spinning plates” fell and she collapsed. That moment led Tonya to a therapist’s office where she was diagnosed with depression and anxiety that had been simmering under the surface unnoticed for years. She found herself battling suicidal thoughts with stress manifesting in her body in many different ways. Determined to not let it be the end of her story, Tonya began searching for a quick way to transform her depression on her own. She prayed for a “knife” that could quickly cut through her depression and was led to The Adult Chair podcast, which allowed her to completely transform in a matter of months. In this episode, Tonya shares her inspirational story of how she used the tools in The Adult Chair to completely shift her outlook on life and get healthy FAST (and for free!). Listen to discover: How Tonya cut through depression in less than a year The tools that were most effective in working through depression The importance of self-talk and shifting skewed thought patterns Her journey of knowing who she is and learning to love herself Today, Tonya is happy, healthy and on her way to becoming an Adult Chair Certified Coach. I’m so excited to see the way she helps others transform through her own experience of walking through and transforming depression and anxiety. “The Adult Chair was my knife to cut through layers and layers of trauma.” - Tonya “One of the biggest things is to be a story buster. Do you ever sit down at the end of a long day of work, after checking box after box off your to-do list and still think, wow, I have so many more things I should get done. This feeling of overwhelm is common for small business owners and mompreneurs alike and it’s the reason today’s guest, Tonya Dalton, was inspired to write her new book, The Joy of Missing Out. You may remember Tonya from Episode 26 of Proof to Product, where she shared her start-up story of founding inkWELL Press and how she built systems and processes for both work and home. Since then, Tonya has been featured on Real Simple, Entrepreneur, Inc., Apartment Therapy, Lauren Conrad, and HGTV. In 2019, Tonya received the Enterprising Woman of the Year Award and was named North Carolina's Female Entrepreneur to Watch by The Ladders. Tonya is truly a productivity expert and has made it her mission to help other women reduce and remove the overwhelm in their lives through her inkWELL Press products, liveWELL Method Course, Productivity Podcast, and book that comes out October 1st. On today's episode, Tonya takes us behind the scenes of The Joy of Missing Out. She shares her motivations for writing the book, why she chose to weave stories in as lessons, and the power of saying yes and no. I also discuss a personal story of my own that Tonya shares in her book. If you’re looking for ways to reduce overwhelm in your life and carve out more time for the things that matter most, this one's for you! ON TODAY’S EPISODE: What inspired Tonya to write The Joy of Missing Out The importance of being raw and honest Where to start when you get feel caught spinning in circles How to identify your priorities and true North Star Misconceptions about what’s urgent vs important Letting go of the idea of balance to embrace the idea of movement Advice for coping with feelings of guilt The value of free-time and white space to boosting productivity Ultradian rhythm is and why it’s important How Tonya uses her white-space and free time The sandwich strategy and how to use it Tools, resources and bonuses being released with The Joy of Missing Out KEY TAKE-AWAYS: “We're overwhelmed by our tasks, overwhelmed by our own to-do list. And I wanted women to see that it is possible to live the life you want and to achieve greatness without spreading yourself so thin, without making yourself do everything.” - Tonya Dalton “It's not always easy to say no, to live with intention, or to let go of the guilt that we feel making these choices. And I think was really important to just be raw and honest about that.” - Tonya Dalton “The best teachers are those that have been through difficult times and are open to sharing both how they got through it as well as the messy parts of dealing with it.” - Katie Hunt “None of us get through life with all successes, without any failures. It's the things that we stumble on, the things that we fail at, those are the things that make us resilient.” - Tonya Dalton “Instead of trying to go the 50 different steps, why not choose to do five? Why not do less and focus in on what's important.” - Tonya Dalton “If everything is perfectly equal and even, there's no movement. You have to have some imbalance in order to move forward.” - Tonya Dalton “I think that's the problem is when we are trying to do everything, we end up doing nothing.” - Tonya Dalton “The biggest mistake some people make is thinking periods of rest are a reward for great work, but periods of rest are actually a requirement for great work to happen. We need some white space in our lives, some breathing room where we can actually innovate and be creative.” - Tonya Dalton “Often the grace we give to others far exceeds the grace we give ourselves.” - Tonya Dalton “I am so guilty of putting out the fires and letting that pull focus, because it's right in front, whether it's my kids or my team or whatever it is. But using the priority list over the to-do list recently has shifted my mindset around that.” - Katie Hunt LINKS Website: https://inkwellpress.com/ Facebook: http://facebook.com/tonyaidalton Instagram: https://instagram.com/tonya_i_dalton Twitter: https://twitter.com/tonya_i_dalton Book: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1400214335 SUBSCRIBE To subscribe on iOS, go to the iTunes page and subscribe to Proof to Product. "I truly believe in earning your stripes and working all the positions you can—being the first one to put up your hand and say, ‘I’ll take on that initiative. I’ll take on that new responsibility,’ and not expect anything in return… It gives you more substance as a leader. When you’ve worked every position and you say to an employee, ‘I need you to clean this toilet,’ and they know that you’ve done that before and you’ll do it again, there’s a built-in respect.” Tonya Jacobs is the COO of Mercedes Club New York, a luxury health and fitness oasis boasting an elite personal training staff and unparalleled member service. Tonya began her lifelong athletic career as a formally trained dancer, and she spent eight years touring the world as a performer at luxury resorts and casinos. In 1993, she moved to New York City and began her journey in the health club industry. Mentored by leading fitness executives, Tonya worked her way up from an entry level reception position to the upper echelons of management. Tonya has the tips, tools, and tactics for making the right choice. 2:20 The whole process of growing your business can be looked at like going back to school. You only know what you know and you have to bring in help. 3:28 How do you choose the right one because there are so many options. When Tonya came into the online space having run a successful brick and mortar, and after having invested in various courses, she invested in a coach. 5:42 Think of getting started in business like getting ready for college. When you're picking classes, you need a guidance counselor. Think of a business coach like a counselor. Pick a coach that you have good chemistry with and you can share life with them. Look for a coach who has experience in the field you want to pursue. Also look for someone who you like what they're doing and it feels authentic, matches your values and you want to learn how they are running their business. You want to feel like you're being held accountable. Before you invest thousands in courses, invest in a coach. 11:12 Courses are an amazing supplement to your journey as an entrepreneur. They'll help you fill in the gaps to where your strengths are and where you could build up your weaknesses. But, you have to say no when you aren't at that particular spot yet. 12:50 Just because you have the strategy for your business, you need to apply mindset in your journey. As we're building this strategy and plan, we know what we should be doing, but we don't do it. Usually, that's because we're afraid and we're second guessing ourselves. We throw money at a course because we think that will help us feel ready. We need to do the mindset work to figure out what we're afraid of and we can build up ourselves through that work. 16:06 Masterminds are a great way to put what you know into practice and build on your skills. They can be seen as an alumni group for college. You want a mastermind that is tailored to your business a little bit. You want to collaborate and brainstorm for your business. It's also a great place to network. 17:15 What happens if you feel like you need a coach, a course and a mastermind. There are hybrid programs out there like the Profit Party Academy. There's going to be lessons, hot seats, and coaching. 18:50 Perspective clients are looking for a one-stop shop when it comes to coaches. If you're going to college, do you want to learn from the same professor, do you want to learn from one professor, probably not. Learning from multiple people will benefit you. If you hire a coach, have a plan and figure out what exactly it is you want to learn from them. 20:50 How Tonya works with her clients to set them up for success and then have them move on to the next best person for them. This is why she's constantly growing her network of resources so that it's not just about her, it's about what comes next for her clients. She makes referrals for her clients. 22:42 Before hiring a coach, do some clarity work. Ask what you want to do. Money isn't an issue here. Who do you want to work with and who is not your ideal client? Where are your clients? This is more than what social media platform they are on, but where are they in life and where are they in their business journey. When do they need you? How do they want to work with you? This is tailoring your low-risk offer to get into their mindset. After you've done this, tune into how you're feeling about it. How does the information make you feel? Decide I am the person to do this for them. Do you know what it's worth to them? Pick a price, if it's too high or too low, if that makes you anxious, then talk to Tonya who might be able to help. Or the Profit Party Academy might be a good fit for you.
